Cantu was the only one on the Spring grad list. Being overly pessimistic, I have concerns about Simpson. She doesn't look happy, intimidated by MW, alot likely has to do with her age/adjusting to this level. Perhaps a positive showing in the SR will help if she has that opportunity. This is where a strong female assistant can build confidence. With her previous high accolades, her family may have concerns. Again, overly pessimistic. Really hope she stays and is successful. But MW has yet to develop a freshman pitcher at Texas. Both transferred (White, Green). Day may be a concern if she is not satisfied with her role as DP/DH, limited pitching. But we have the geat advantage of offering a UT education. https://texassports.com/news/2022/5/19/texas-athletics-ut-athletics-announces-2022-spring-commencement-participants.aspx Brianna Cantu Softball Economics, minor in Business

Tell us why ? 🙂

Thanks for sharing that great story. Stanford is back with her as coach ! She communicates well and players show tremendous respect for her for good reason.
-
Listed as a Senior, Covid year ?
-
Great win for Stanford and Jessica Allister. She can coach softball. Sad ending for Montana Fouts' great career. @Js1 Was Alana Vawter a Connie commit, so she decomitted ? Shutout Bama with 4 hits.

Agree, I really like Cimusz at 1B, bases loaded double with 3 rbi's yesterday.

On the other side of the ball, UW fifth-year senior pitcher Gabbie Plain will likely be in line to toss back-to-back games, just as she did against Michigan last season. https://www.dailyuw.com/sports/softball/washington-prepares-for-do-or-die-regional-final-versus-texas/article_7616e032-d99d-11ec-a684-470785be3448.html Excerpt above from UW campus paper. UW pitched Nelson, their #2 vs Lehigh. Leaves them Lynch who stated game 1 vs Lehigh. Having to pitch Plain in game 1 for 2.2 innings/47 pitches set UW back. They have to go with Plain in at least game 1 today. . How will MW counter ? Time of year when heroes are made. Ala/Stanford, UK/Va Tech now underway. #6 Ala and #3 Va Tech have to win twice. Championship softball - best time of year.

Word of caution: Washington had this same scenario last year at home and came back to win 2 from #20 Michigan. Lost in Supers to OU. But Wa was ranked #6 last year with 44 wins. That said, this was a tough loss. They came apart.

Plain had to throw 47 pitches in 2.2 innings. Been awhile since we have seen a pitcher like Plain. Not notable velocity, but up, down, all around, lives on the black part of the plate, great location. Best hope is she will have trouble locating.

Great game by Czech and great decision by MW to start her with the LH hitters in Weber St's lineup. Looked like she did early in the year. 1 BB, 5H and 6 K's, 0 errors. Playoff quality stats. In her last outing against Baylor in game 2, Czech gave up 7 hits in 1 inning and walked 2. Props to MW for correcting.

Thought about this all week. I do agree we can win this Regional, but.. Unless MW has found some Tom Herman "pixie dust" for the pitching staff, seems likely he will start Dolcini every game like the Connie Clark - Blair Luna scenario. He chose to start Dolcini against lowly Tech in the first game of the B12 tournament. Simpson's start against Baylor in game 2 was a disaster though she was competitive vs OU. MW has done a poor job of developing this staff and recruiting from the portal last year. Czech and Hulon have not been significant, though Czech has had her moments. As @Goodman stated upthread, we thought he would have a few "ringers" on the pitching staff. Several key transfers has to fall partially on MW. Hope I'm wrong and he has worked with Simpson and Czech this week to correct their mechanics. Simpson has talent. UW has an experienced team. Starting the same pitcher 2 consecutive games is not good. But in true MW fashion, we will just try to oustscore them. Offense mate, Offense.

A candid critique of UW by the UW campus paper. Should note that Plain 2 hit Pac12 Champ Az St with 13k's in her last appearance on 12 May. Don't disrespect Weber St. They have an ace pitcher (Arissa Henderson) with a 1.88 era, hit .313 as a team. (excerpt) Fifth-year senior Gabbie Plain, while still effective, has had the worst season of her career, with a 2.02 ERA behind career-high walks and home runs surrendered with 53 and 14, respectively. Plain has pitched by far the most innings on the team with 159 1/3. Seniors Baylee Klingler and Madison Huskey batted .378 and .329 in conference play, respectively, but no other qualified Washington player hit over .256 in Pac-12 games. https://www.dailyuw.com/sports/softball/uw-softball-to-host-ncaa-regionals-as-no-13-overall-seed/article_c7e91cac-d4a4-11ec-8df6-97bc1eceaf10.html https://weberstatesports.com/sports/softball/stats/2022

OU's Jordy Bahl has a hairline fracture in her forearm. Availability will be determined by doctors, Gasso, and Jordy. Jenny Finch pitched with a similar injury in her career.

Reading Hutchens' bio on his Twitter, he is a young, inexperienced writer playing to the OKSt audience. Kenny G did the same, though not in detail, before the regular season series. Saying we welcomed Miranda knowing what she has been through, etc. Before the tournament series, he told ESPN "there is not as much emotion now playing Texas as there was in our first meeting during the regular season." Still alluding to the Elish situation. If Hutchens had experience he would have replied to Mary's tweets by asking about her suspension earlier in the year. I agree with @bschoolprof this is an interesting drama. Due to Kenng G's comments, I do hope Nebraska wins the Stillwater Regional.

D1 Chat: Can you handicap the Big 12 hosting scenarios for us? Tech all of the sudden looks like a host, but the RPI isn’t there. Texas has a much better RPI, but only 11-10 in the league. If Texas finishes 14-10 and only 2 games back of league champ TCU or TTU, can they snatch a host bid from one of those schools? Or can they just add a third Big 12 host? Yeah the Big 12 hosting picture is pretty fascinating. Both of the teams at the top of the standings, TCU and Texas Tech, are mid-30s in the RPI, which is normally not where you want to be as a host candidate, of course. But it feels like a scenario where the committee will make an exception for the Big 12 champion, we've seen that sort of thing before. OK State is still in good RPI shape at No. 12 and solid enough in the standings, so they're a host. I think I agree with your thinking that if Texas sweeps that last series to get to 14-10, it could move into hosting position too. But a lot could be decided at the conference tourney. Fun race to watch. Even Oklahoma is still in the mix. Example of importance of RPI: Texas Tech and Arkansas have been in the Top 20 for the entire season and have really good series wins, but the RPI is not as high as you would think. Maryland is at 11 in the RPI, higher than both of those teams. What would the pecking order be for those three teams when it comes to regional hosting? This is such a fascinating question, because it really is a test of how much weight the committee is going to put on the RPI this year. Last year, we expected the committee would use the RPI less, because all the weird COVID-related scheduling stuff really made it have less meaning -- but when the dust settled it was still almost straight RPI all the way through that bracket. So if that's the case again, you'd have to think Maryland will be ahead of Arkansas and Tech. The fact that Maryland has managed to build a No. 11 RPI as a team in the Big Ten is very loud, and the Terps are also atop their league. That's just a really good body of work.
