AAS article about incoming infielder Leighann Goode and SA O'Connor winning State yesterday. (excerpts)
In the victory, Goode went 2-for-4 with an RBI single. She also scored a run and stole two bases.
A shortstop and leadoff hitter, Goode hit .500 over her two games at this weekend's state tournament. Goode earned a spot on the Class 6A all-tournament team.
When Goode signed with Texas this past November, she was rated by Softball America as the No. 40 recruit in her class. Extra Inning Softball evaluated Goode as a top-20 prospect and top-three infielder.
"A Texas native, Leighann is a talented, five-tool athlete who can play infield or outfield with equal ability," Texas coach Mike White said. "We see Leighann contributing to our team immediately and over the years to come."
Goode joins Citlaly Gutierrez as the 2022 Texas recruits who have won a state title at McCombs Field. Last year, Gutierrez led Stamford to the Class 2A title. Katie Cimusz (Humble Atascocita) and Sophia Simpson (Barbers Hill) are the current Longhorns who won state championships while attending Texas high schools.
