  1. Feel bad for the Florida players. O'Sullivan not trying to win this game. He would have pulled the starter much, much earlier. A sin to let your team be embarassed. Florida likely has internal problems.
  2. https://weather.com/weather/radar/interactive/l/7472a7bbd3a7454aadf596f0ba7dc8b08987b1f7581fae69d8817dffffc487c2 Will be interesting to see when they decide to start Fairfield/Southern. Radar shows a break but more t/s lightning about 4/5 PM. Their game would be interrupted. All clear about 5:30/6.
  3. ASU Coach Smith states they will start Tyler Thornton (RHP/5.73) against Fairfield and Justin Fall (LHP/ 3.86) for game two. They also expect injured pitcher Kai Murphy back (LHP/4.50) though he has only 16IP this year. He did express a concern about the weather which could affect their rotation. Hope aggy Kendall is just spreading aggy propaganda. Need to keep Schlossnagle in the B12. He did not "flirt" with Miss St, they aggressively pursued him.
  5. Coach Fields' comments: 5. Not par for the course. The Texas men’s golf season finished with a dud, not a flurry, when it finished in a tie for 27th out of 30 teams at the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., and failed to advance to match play. I think its two studs got worn down and fatigued when Cole Hammer and Pierceson Coody rightfully competed at the Walker Cup and in the Byron Nelson. I know coach John Fields said they factored in the busy schedule, but that’s some stressful golf, combined with the Big 12 Tournament and the NCAA regional in Noblesville, Ind., as a prelude to the NCAAs. “The outcome was unexpected and painful to say the least,” Fields said, “but a function of success, scheduling, COVID and key performance deficiencies. Wouldn’t change my decisions or path this year even if I had a crystal ball and knew this outcome was imminent. We took opportunities as they came. I rolled the dice and lost. Suffice it to say, they hit the wall. In the end, I didn’t get it done. This is my responsibility, period.” Love the accountability. Fields could give some lessons to others for his stand-up position. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/2021/06/01/former-texas-athletic-director-deloss-dodds-retired-hasnt-skipped-beat/7496359002/

  7. Do you closely follow ASU baseball ? Please entlighten us. Saw a few innings of the UCLA games on TV. Not their day. Miss the rivalry of the Gus/Jim Brock years. (perhaps before your time) 🙂
  8. Proud of 'em ! Great representatives of The University of Texas.
  9. Great game, Welcome Back, Mary ! MW says Janae is the most underrated player in NCAA college softball. That ball gets thru and ... Great game by Shea to stay focused after the HR's. OKSt needs stadium security for that outfield crowd.

Hate to see LSU and face the media frenzy/distraction of Maineri’s final games, seeing clips of the ‘09 CWS, etc. Logical though just like they sent Oregon to the softball regional. (Coach White’s former team)
  11. OkSt forum thinks Mitchell Stone (LHP, 6'9", 2.56) will start. He started last Friday against NOrleans and did well. Standlee was used in relief against NO. OKSt's staff is getting healthy after injuries.
  12. Love the way Ryleigh is competing - invaluable experience. Overall, she did great, good location. Hope she doesn't transfer.
  13. Not very patient at bat, swing at first ball in the zone. Get her pitch count up.

Sry to hear ! Mainieri respects the game and is good for college baseball. Didn't realize he was 63. https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/lsu-sports/ Tigerdroppings looks like texags. Opening even further reduces aggy opportunity for a splash hire.
  15. Article stated he encountered health issues since retirement in 2014. Eric Metcalf stated he had foot surgery last week. Not a physician and pure speculation, but when a person has surgery (especially Larrry's size) blood clots may form. You may have known of athletes having blood clots from knee surgery. Blood thinners are quite often recommended for everyone after surgery. Please excuse the speculation. Wanted to emphasize the often need for blood thinners after surgery. RIP, Larry !

Larry was a fixture at the Disch and a great Longhorn. Very congenial, friend to everyone, a great Longhorn.
  17. Many of you may know, most have seen Big Larry at football or baseball games and practice. One of the most congenial persons I have met - a great Longhorn. RIP, Big Larry ! Longtime Texas athletics administrator Larry Falk, a fixture at UT sporting events for the better part of 30 years, died Thursday morning in his sleep, according to a family friend. He was 58. Falk, known for his gregarious personality and his large frame — earning him the nickname “Big Larry” on campus — was hired in 1981 and served as a student manager for the football team before going on to become the equipment manager. After a decade with the football team, he was promoted to operations manager of the facilities department before he settled in as the assistant athletics director for operations in 2007, a position he held for eight years until he retired in 2014. He was inducted into the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 2013. Falk could often be spotted tooling between campus athletic facilities on his golf cart with his huge key ring dangling. “He was always at work,” former Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said Thursday. “He was the first guy there every morning and the last guy to leave at night. He had a key to everything. He knew more about what was going on than anybody on staff because he talked to everybody — players, coaches and administrators. He loved everybody.” Former Texas football and track star Eric Metcalf said he spoke with Falk last week before Falk had entered the hospital for a foot procedure. “We were really close,” Metcalf said Thursday. “The university was like Larry’s kid. He was part of the campus and the whole program. It was his life." Falk accompanied Texas teams to 22 bowl games, including the 2005 national title win over USC and was also on hand for 10 trips to the College World Series. He was the tournament director for many regional and super regional baseball tournaments at Disch-Falk Field and a longtime assistant director for the Texas Relays. https://www.hookem.com/story/sports/2021/05/27/larry-falk-worked-texas-athletics-more-than-three-decades/7477925002/
  18. Below press release is from Feb. Hope for last minute reprieve. HOUSTON — Luby's and its Fuddruckers restaurants are closing their remaining restaurants by August. The Dallas Morning News reports Chris Pappas, who operates Houston-based Pappas restaurants, has resigned as CEA and president of Luby's Inc. Luby's has about a dozen Houston restaurants operating currently. Back in September, the Luby's Inc. board members voted to liquidate and dissolve the company's "businesses, operations, and real estate" and institute an "orderly wind down of any remaining operations," the company announced in a press release. In June, the Houston-based company announced it would immediately pursue the sale of its operating divisions and assets, including its real estate assets, and distribute the net proceeds to stockholders after payment of debt and other obligations. At that time, the plan was to convert all of its remaining assets into cash and distribute the net proceeds to the stockholders. However, Pappas also said at that time the company was "preserving the flexibility to pursue a sale of the Company should a compelling offer that delivers superior value be made." Essentially, if a better offer comes along, the liquidation plan could be abandoned. That unfortunately never happened. https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/lubys-closing-down-for-good/285-b672876a-8c99-47f8-8be1-af013bffeba7
  19. SEC approved communication with the dugout couple of years ago to speed up the game. Not sure it has been given final approval by NCAA. An SEC rule passed before the 2018 season allowed teams to use a radio and headset for communication from the dugout to the catcher to call pitches. That was done on an experimental basis to see if improved communication sped up the game. https://www.tidesports.com/other-sports/20190401/radio-communication-helping-catchers-get-calls/
  20. In the past, plenty of tickets available at the box office on gameday. Since OU/OKSt are in our bracket, probably not as many but definitely don't buy the tournament package. Single session tickets on sale, link below. https://big12sports.com/feature/2021-baseball-championship

Agree ! Are you familiar with the Rice program ? Does the AD control, alumni, Berkman, anyone or there divisions ? Good for the State if they return to prominence. Our resident Owl, @OWLVIS had some health issues. Hope he is doing well.
  22. Don't know if the NCAA Baseball Committee will follow suit, but the Softball Committee prioritized regional matchups to the extent possible due to Covid. Especially for the Super Regional matchups. With the improvement in Covid restrictions, may/may not be a factor. Results were alot of conference matchups for the Super Regionals.
  23. Good idea, don't see it listed (on mobile). Though I am just learning how to navigate that site.
  24. Yes, Shea has Graves Disease. Reason she wears sunglasses and it can cause weight gain (thyroid issues). Re: Player conditioning. Not necessarily their size/weight, but the amount of bad weight and flexibility/speed for position players. Not really a problem at Texas, but 2/3 seem like they could have benefited from full off season conditioning. Though Shea has gained weight, what a warrior ! Great endurance. LHN guide states they are having replays all day of the Texas/WVU baseball blowouts instead of two classic softball games. Not good, maybe later. Wanted to tape/ rewatch, not as cognizant as before past midnight.
  25. Had the same thought. But I think it can be attributed to the lack/type of off season workouts due to Covid. Many teams seem to have the issue. Juarez, OU ace pitcher, really gained weight and her overall performance has declined. Like all, so proud of the team and Camille Corona. Patiently awaited her time, did not complain, team player. The following are excerpts from an article in the Statesman last week on MW's defensive philosophy. Hopefully, these 2 Oregon games will temper his thinking. I am sure he values defense, but even more after this weekend. "Our defense, we still have some issues there," Texas coach Mike White said. "Hopefully we can string hits together and take care of that." Of the 64 teams that qualified for the postseason, only two have a worse fielding percentage. Only four tournament teams — Mississippi State, Georgia, Alabama State and Kennesaw State -— have committed more errors. After White was hired three years ago, he told his new players that "I’m about offense." He wanted Texas to grab early leads. That meant placing the best bats in his starting lineup, not the best gloves. White's message was clear. As former UT infielder Malory Schattle put it, who plays “basically depends on who’s really hitting well that day.” "I think we've evolved to this combination of best of both. You've got to have some offense, and you've got to have some, obviously, defense," White said. "If say, (third baseman Camille) Corona's not hitting the ball today, I can always bring someone in to pinch-hit for her and then put Corona back in." Of the 72 teams that have qualified for the past nine Women's College World Series, 36% had a top-10 fielding percentage. Of those 72 teams, 39 had a top-25 defense, 53 recorded top-50 numbers and 65 boasted top-100 fielding percentages. Only LSU, which had the 157th-best fielding percentage in 2016, and an Oregon team coached by White, which was 195th in 2012, ranked outside the top 150. https://www.hookem.com/sports/
