  1. Just about to post the same. Road to Williamsport (19-29 Aug) begins today in Waco. All games on LHN. Texas is represented by Abilene (West) and Needville (East). Would like to hear from the regulars here about the effect of Select on regular LL. Seems to have increased. Unusual to see some of the regulars missing like Post Oak, Pearland and McAllister Park. https://www.littleleague.org/world-series/2021/llbws/tournaments/southwest-region/
  2. Appreciate the updates !
  3. Feel bad for Kumar. Reports say elbow issue, maybe UCL ? He threw 122 inn this year (Leiter 110, Madden 113). Have to wonder if it was issue during the season and what Vandy did to protect him. Fink is a writer for Fangraphs.
  4. https://d1baseball.com/top-stories/the-d1baseball-podcast-sec-addition-reaction-extended-draft-analysis/ Don't subscribe to D1, but first 17 minutes of this podcast may cover some points of referenced article. Summary: (if you listen, may have other takes) - SEC will be more powerful, possibly influencing more scholarships - OU will need to "step up" in baseball to be competitive in the SEC , especially facility wise. - Texas relinquished power to join the SEC including the LHN and B12 conference prestige. - Outlook bleak for conference baseball for remaining members possibly with the exception of Tech if they go to the P12 and if WVU goes to ACC. (not sure I agree, TCU. OKSt, and Baylor also can compete like the non P5 West Coast and Florida/Carolinas schools. They will need a strong ooc schedule for RPI but you don't necessarily want them in your Regional as a 3/4 seed).
  5. The USA baseball team features 12 former NCAA baseball players, including 2013 Men's College World Series champion Eric Filia of UCLA. Team USA will play Israel at 6 a.m. ET on Friday, Jul 30 and South Korea at 6 a.m. ET on Saturday, July 31. Knockout phase begins 1 Aug. https://www.usabaseball.com/team-usa/professional-team/roster
  6. No knowledge to make a recommendation, but thoughts and prayers for your wife for a successful recovery. The physicians in Colorado may be able to provide a recommendation/referral ?
  7. Well said, with the exception of the idiot comment about our resident North Loop. 😊 Pierce certainly has earned and deserves an extension. Key will be for how many years ( ideally, not more than 2-3 with a fair, realistic buyout). As for the staff, Tulo, where would we be... ? Sean Allen and Phil Miller, recruiting and talent evaluators - second to none. Development, let's wait a year or two before they claim a spot among the elite.
  8. 2-0 Japan. Painful to see the expressions of Cat and Monica Abbott. Two legends. On home soil, in an event their nation rescued from a state of Olympic neglect specifically for these Games, Japan’s softball team delivered a near flawless performance to defeat the United States 2-0 in a gold medal rematch 13 years in the making. The pitching matchup was a poetically familiar one. 4,724 days after squaring off in the Beijing 2008 gold medal game, 38-year-old Cat Osterman and 39-year-old Ueno Yukiko shared the pitching circle once again. Osterman, though, was unable to locate her best stuff and lasted just one batter into the third inning. Japanese batters reached base in each frame against the two-time Olympic medalist, though stellar defense from the U.S. fielders kept the game scoreless Michele Moultrie authored one of the defensive highlights of the entire tournament in the bottom of the second, robbing Ichiguchi Yuka of an RBI extra-base hit with a spinning grab at the wall. After Osterman began the top of the third with a walk, Team USA head coach Ken Eriksen removed the two-time Olympic medalist from the game in favor of relief pitcher Ally Carda. Osterman allowed two hits and did not record a strikeout. Carda – with the help of second base Ali Aguilar – got the U.S. out of a third inning jam to keep Osterman’s earned run total for the tournament at zero. In top of the fourth, though, Japan scraped across the first run of the game on an infield single by Atsumi Mana, driving in Fujita Yamato from third. Midway through the fifth inning, Monica Abbott entered as Team USA’s third pitcher. She allowed a single to her first batter, Fujita, scoring an inherited runner to give Japan a 2-0 lead. All along, Ueno, backed by mistake-free Japanese defense, piled up the outs. She exited after five shutout innings allowing just two hits and striking out five. Relief pitcher Goto Miu worked into trouble in the sixth as the United States put runners on first and second. One of the wildest defensive plays in Olympic softball history got Japan out of the inning. The U.S. did not put a runner aboard in the seventh as Ueno returned to close out the game. https://www.nbcolympics.com/news/japan-repeats-softball-champs-13-years-apart-downing-united-states-final
  9. Thanks for the correction to 6AM.
  10. He would have "cleaned house" in June at the latest. RIP, George ! Son said a few weeks ago, (para) "Dad's moves did not always workout." Win 7 titles and then talk. These players are weak because there is no pressure to win.
  11. Gold Medal Game, USA vs Japan, 7AM(CST) Tuesday, NBCSNH Ch1640 Uverse. NBC has a sports app for streaming. Perhaps @Lostman can verify times and provide further details. If you have never seen these two teams play, super competitive. USA won 2-1 Sunday in the round robin game on a walkoff HR by Kelsey Stewart, former UF player. Cat pitched in relief.
  12. Yes, but infielder in high school. With the transfers (Messinger, O'Dowd) seems he will remain in OF and/or DH. No idea if he is a 1B candidate.
  13. Wow ! very sorry to hear ! Hopefully, Drew has trained someone on the complexity of being the Director of Baseball Operations to assume the position or assist the selectee. His uber congenial personality and knowledge will be difficult to replace. He was a member of the '05 Championship Team. Best always to Drew and his Family !

  15. As the former leader of the Texas Senate and member for 13 years, hopefully BOR Chairman Kevin Eltief has laid the groundwork. Don't think he would let the lege be blindsided. He impresses as a shrewd little bastard.
  16. Could someone who does Twitter tweet @TexasBaseball and ask to tweet a Summer League Roster ? TexasSports no longer publishes the roster. Hope Melendez is somewhere working on a position (or receiving individual instruction). Summer League rosters are often incomplete/inaccurate, but what is known/listed: Campbell is playing 3B at Santa Barbara this Summer, hitting .422 but fielding .786. 6 errors in 10 games. CapeCod Gordon, Hodo - Falmouth (Gordon made the Cape All Star game) Witt - Chatham Faltine, Hansen - Brewster Southard - Orleans CCL Campbell, Eckardt, Nixon - Santa Barbara Coastal Plain League Johnson - Lexington
  17. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/draft/ Signings as of 18 Jul. Others have signed for a similar bonus. Cubs signed their 6th rd choice for 1K. Have a great career Mike and make the bastards pay. Edit: If not reported, Cam got 20K in the 19th rd. Slot 125K.
  18. Are there any signs of mold in the area, dark spots on wall, carpet, odor, etc ? May want to have a mold inspection by the City Health Dept, or another agency. Would force the landlord to make repairs if mold is found.
  19. https://www.aggiesportstalk.com/discussion/1616/uc-davis-baseball-team-and-coaching-staff-suspended The letter concluded with, “we are committed to conducting a thorough assessment to determine the best path forward to provide a safe and inclusive experience for all team members. We will keep you informed if there are updates we’re able to share prior to the start of the fall quarter. UC Davis fan forum. You may have a point, juan. One poster speculates hazing. Team was 14-43 this year (ouch) ! Remember our Regional at Long Beach St in '17. Their coach (Troy Buckley) was fired mid season '19 for player abuse (e.g., throwing balls at players in anger) and other acts.
  20. WSJ today (excerpts). "that's my story and I'm sticking to it" Powell's term ends in Feb. Next 7 months critical for the economy and Powell. Any indication of how he is perceived by the WH ? Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said inflation had increased notably and would likely remain elevated in the coming months before moderating. Inflation “has been higher than we’ve expected and a little bit more persistent than we had expected and hoped,” Mr. Powell said in testimony Wednesday before the House Financial Services Committee. Pandemic-related bottlenecks and other supply constraints created “just the perfect storm of high demand and low supply” that led to rapid price increases for certain goods and services, he said. Mr. Powell said he expects that these effects “should partially reverse as the effects of the bottlenecks unwind. While the Fed and many private sector forecasters had expected inflation to rise this year as a surge in consumer spending collided with pandemic-related shortages and bottlenecks, the strength of the last three monthly inflation readings has been greater than many anticipated. While inflation is expected to decline, questions abound over how soon and how low inflation will fall relative to the Fed’s 2% target. “The incoming inflation data have been higher than expected and hoped for, but they’re actually still consistent with what we’ve been talking about,” said Mr. Powell, with inflation coming from a “small group of goods and services that are directly tied to the reopening of the economy.” Mr. Powell added, “We are monitoring the situation very carefully. We are committed to price stability, and if we were to see that inflation were…remaining materially high or above our target for a period of time, and it was threatening to uproot inflation expectations and create a risk of a longer period of inflation, we would absolutely change our policy as appropriate.” https://www.wsj.com/articles/powell-expects-inflation-to-moderate-but-will-likely-remain-elevated-this-year-11626265800
  21. Probably both. Connecting the dots between Antico and Texas was Jerry Weinstein. Antico's manager with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod summer league in 2019, Weinstein knew Pierce. He also had previously worked with the Colorado Rockies while UT volunteer coach Troy Tulowitzki was an all-star shortstop there. https://www.hookem.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/06/03/texas-baseball-anticos-move-st-johns-has-been-happy-one/7505507002/ Re: Messinger Likely alot will depend on draft. Taken by Cubs in 22d round after high school (2017). otoh, may have graduated and wants to pursue grad degree at Texas.
  22. Stats say no errors in 57 chances this year. He played mostly 3B in high school and at Odessa College. May have seen limited time at 1B. The concern is Pierce did not give him much PT on defense in midweek games so it may be lacking or Pierce playing safe. He may leave with a mid round or even later draft position. Unless he is a high draft pick, highly rated '21 signee Gavin Kash is the future at 1B (another reason Ivan may opt to leave). Peter Geib (whose talent has not been given an opportunity injury one reason) is another option at 1B. Our infrequent poster @Snake Diggity is more well versed, perhaps he will opine. Draft begins Sunday, 11 Jul, 6PM, ESPN.
  23. Nice story about Gallo and 3B coach Beasley. (excerpts) ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers All-Star slugger Joey Gallo has never forgotten that day he spent during spring training five years ago with Tony Beasley — a nearly four-hour chemotherapy session to treat the coach's cancer. When Gallo steps into the box for the Home Run Derby in Denver on Monday night, Beasley will be throwing to him — as the third base coach has in batting practice before Rangers games throughout the 27-year-old slugger's big league career. While Beasley had planned to spend next week's break at home in Virginia, the former minor league All-Star infielder who never played in the majors couldn't turn down Gallo. “He was relieved, but it made me feel good that I felt like I was his only choice,” Beasley said. “And he went back to 2016 when we spent time together in chemotherapy and that type of stuff, he felt like that would be a good opportunity to shed light on cancer and the possibility of inspiring people https://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/article/Rangers-Gallo-Beasley-s-Impact-16306229.php

Not sure, @Fletch alluded to that earlier in the year. Huston was in the stands at Omaha.

Tulo is listed on our roster as an Assistant Coach though he is a Volunteer Asst. Yeskie was hired as the pitching coach, a great hire, super pitching coach and recruiter with West Coast connections. Cain recruited for LSU and knows the Houston area, Texas, and the South. My guess (guess only) is Earley is the Volunteer Asst. May take a year or two but they should be good, very good. Long term it could affect our recruiting success in the Houston area. Things fell into place for Schlossnagle being able to hire top assistants after head coaching changes at LSU and Arizona.
