  1. Good point ! Fullerton was decimated by the draft in '18 (especially pitching) and hasn't recovered. Coach Vanderhook had to replace his two coaches at the end of last year. So this isn't the Fullerton of the past.
  2. Would hate to lose her. She has greatly improved Slack. (though work to be done 😉) And the chemistry between her and MW would be difficult to replace.
  3. This is an excellent observation ! Pierce needs to go out of his comfort zone and hire a proven, experienced pitching coach that has the respect and builds confidence in the pitchers. The talent is there. Pierce's postgame quotes. “It’s hard to pitch once every two weeks,” Pierce said. “That’s one of the things that we’re struggling with is just getting the right amount of innings for each guy to get in a groove. The reason why we’re still throwing that many guys is because we haven’t had enough guys separate themselves.” Said Pierce: “It’s as much our sophomores as our freshmen. We’re repeating a lot of the same things they did last year. We’re going to find the right mix for sure. We need about 10 to 12 of them and we’ll find them. If they want to pitch, they’re going to have to get better, it’s that simple.” https://www.hookem.com/story/arizona-8-texas-6-longhorn-pitchers-come-up-short-during-an-impromptu-midweek-audition/
  4. - Caston Peter is on the roster but may have an injury ? - Cam Constantine was recruited more as an athlete. Apparently, Peyton Powell is not ready though he has the better credentials of the two. He did start one game. - iirc, Gauntt was on the Fall roster but was cut. Does not have the power Pierce covets. - Dont know, but appears Pierce went "all in" with Ardoin to be the the primary backup and did not recruit a juco. Time will tell if that was a wise decision Pierce cut Gauntt and chose to roll with 4 freshmen and Petrinsky. Ardoin does have the credentials (bio below). Ardoin is from the Lake Charles area, may have been on Pierce's radar from Tulane. : - tl;dr: Have to be patient with Ardoin. Don't write him off yet. Hope he starts tonight to regain confidence. HIGH SCHOOL Louisiana’s first-ever high school Gold Glove winner, being named 2019 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winner at catcher…first team All-State and All-District…member of 5A State Finalist Sam Houston (La.) team under head coach Chad Hebert…team’s defensive player of the year…batted .440 with three home runs and 40 RBI as a senior…four-year letterman at Sam Houston…participated in Area Code Games and in the Future Star Series International Games in 2018…was named All-District catcher in both 2016 and 2017. Pierce on Ardoin: "Silas, along with other incoming catchers, will have a chance to compete for the starting catcher position as a freshman. His pedigree gives him an understanding of pitchers and of managing the game. He is known as a defensive catcher with a great skill set, but has a chance to be a very good gap-to-gap hitter as well." https://texassports.com/news/2018/11/14/baseball-inks-15-to-national-letters-of-intent.aspx
  5. https://ev3.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventList?groupCode=BS&linkID=txstate&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode= Tickets for the Texas St game, 24 Mar, 6PM go on sale 3 Mar, 0900. I find it best to call 512-245-2272. Normally a sellout, good road atmosphere, Texas St does a great job of hosting. Texas St is 8-4 so far, took 2/3 from Houston this past weekend. Always a good ballgame.
  6. The last photo in koopa's post above is Brooke Bolinger, UT grad and former pitcher. Nice to see her support.
  7. Think overuse is a valid concern - also, since she has been playing the OF. Plus, overcoming the traumatic injury and wearing the mask. Edit: Forgot to add, Fresno St is a good team.
  8. Please expound. Too many changes being a negative, changed their swing ? Thanks ! Steve Singleton, Texas Softball hitting coach and former MLB player (minors) and Minor League hitting instructor, does not use a "cookie cutter" approach to the swing. Instead, he respects each player's approach and individual swing and uses analytics like Blast and Rapsodo to refine. TwiceHorn has mentioned the importance of analytics. Too early to panic. That was a very well played college baseball game, especially in the month of February. We K'd 16 times which is concerning, but LSU K'd 12 times. LSU had 2 walks, we had 3. Pitching was dominant. Elder had one bad pitch and LSU had a strong relief guy in Hill. Hill was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Arkansas but LSU lured him to BR. From 1-15 (or how many) I think our overall pitching talent equals or is better than any in the country. We will see if the coaches can max their potential. Need someone to step up to lessen the pitches/innings of the 3 starters. Long time till June.

  11. Was able to attend both games and watched the replay this morning. Just want to add that Shea was magnificent, really focused and attacking the hitters. no walks, always ahead in the count. imo, considering the opponent and importance of avoiding a sweep against a top team, one of the best games of her career. MW did relieve her in favor of Elish for the final out against Roman, another ULL power hitter. Couldn't take the chance of her leaving that changeup over the plate like she did to Bailey Curry in the 4th inning. 😊
  12. Just a few notes about the signficance of this DH with ULL. - ULL is 11-3, loss to UNT, split DH with LSU and Ok St - HC Gerry Glasco, well respected, former asst coach @ aggy - Pat Roberts, Pitching Coach, former asst with Mike White at Oregon - Megan Kleist, former All American pitcher at Oregon - 13 Texans on the roster, most from the Houston area tl;dr: ULL is good, real challenge. Playoff softball in February.

  14. Good story on Cam. (excerpts) The switch hitter actually called his shot. “Yeah, I told a few of my teammates,” he said. “I asked the Lord to let me do what I can do, and I did exactly what I came here to do.” This guy doesn’t lack for confidence. Or unselfishness. Or zeal, if you saw the way he raced around the basepaths, throwing fist pumps en route. At 6 feet 2 and 195 pounds, he’s built like a linebacker, but he’s strictly a baseball player. He’s an older player — Zubia said the team calls him “Uncle” because he’s older than most as a redshirt junior — who plays the game with the joy of a 6-year-old. But that’s about how long he’s coveted a Longhorn uniform since the day he told his father he wanted to only play baseball. The son of former major leaguer Reggie Williams wears the same No. 55 as his dad, who played four seasons for the Angels and Dodgers. He can’t remember another walk-off homer in his career, but he did hit eight long balls for San Jacinto College last season and played for Dallas Baptist before that after a stellar high school career for a Class 7A state champion in Odessa, Fla. “This is an unbelievable place,” he said of UT. “You see Texas on the cover of video games. It doesn’t get any better.” Williams, however, will. He’s an embarrassingly hard worker — so much, in fact, that Pierce almost wishes he’d cut down on his own load management. “He’s probably the most strenuous worker on the team. Him, Murph, Trey (Faltine), (Brenden) Dixon,” Pierce said. “He leads the league there.” Pierce still recalls the time in offseason workouts when he was watching from the warm inside of the Brown Player Development Center. “It’s raining. In the 30s. And Cam’s taking ground balls out there and throwing them into the first base net. That tells you something.” https://www.hookem.com/columns/bohls-cam-comes-keep-texas-unbeaten/
  15. Not sure, I think it is optional. aggy coach Evans does and maybe a few others.
  16. mmm, My Texas Baseball ego surmised that Boise St had asked for the series to begin the resurrection of their progam with a historic program. On Thursday, Pierce said there wasn’t much rhythm or reason to this decision. The Longhorns simply needed someone to play at home: We needed a home weekend and sometimes you have choices and sometimes it’s a matchup. Us wanting to play at home week two and their program being available (out) of a handful. Then you look at which one fits best. Is it a Boise State? Or is it a team out of the northeast that you know nothing about? I know they’ll have some good players because they’ll recruit pretty heavily out of California, and they’ve had some players on their campus, I think, for a year. It just kind of happened to be honest with you. We’re pretty strategic about our scheduling, but that one was kind of filling a void more than anything.” https://www.hookem.com/2020/02/21/boise-state-end-texas-baseball-teams-schedule/ Boise St has a coaching staff with MLB experience. https://broncosports.com/sports/baseball/coaches
  17. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_White_(softball) https://texassports.com/sports/softball/roster/coaches/mike-white/1650 If possible, can someone correct Mike White's Wiki page ? I don't know how. Doing some research before the ULL game to verify that Mike Roberts, ULL pitching coach, was MW's pitching coach for a brief time at Oregon. MW's bio states he is an OU alum, played catcher at OU and Central Az. His correct bio is link 2. Looks like a disgruntled OU or Oregon fan distorted the facts.
  18. I like you Helo and your insight, but you may have jinxed the season. I'll call Pedro.
  19. https://texassports.com/feature/sbgameday https://utparking.clickandpark.com/venue bschoolprof can offer better advice, but check the above links for parking. Note that you can order online. I would recommend one of the surface lots since the baseball team plays at 7PM (SHSU) and also for tailgaiting. Not sure how many of the ULL contingent will attend, normally have a good showing. Should note that limited free parking is available on the streets if you arrive early, especially for a weekday game.
  20. Duplantier's hamate injury is a blessing in disguise. Knew he was good, just like his brother (Rice, 3rd Rd, Diamondbacks, mlb debut last year).
  21. At this time, looks like the UNT game will be played, first pitch 4:30. Current temp 49 degrees, 8mph N wind. Tape delay, 9PM, LHN due to baseball game. (per Texas Sports) Too bad the weather conditions are not favorable. UNT is 8-1 with a victory over Megan Kleist and ULL (2-1). Should be a great game. @bschoolprof - We need you to Facetime it live for us. 😊
  22. siap Eyes on Brown: The father of Vandegrift basketball star Greg Brown III told me Tuesday little has changed in the recruitment of his 6′8″ son. But he reiterated the family line that he is only considering Texas if it retains Shaka Smart. Asked for an update, he said that the possibility of Smart’s firing “definitely will send Greg elsewhere.” https://www.statesman.com/sports/20200218/bohls-big-12-itrsquos-your-turn-to-step-up
