  1. Any further info on why Walsh left Guyer ? His son is now an offensive analyst with us, family moving for retirement gig ?
  2. Do kev's advice and also check the link below. The hybrid sleep mode may be the culprit. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03383935
  3. As a refresher (primarily for myself 🙂), below is the incoming class of freshmen. Link has bio's. Someone posted earlier that Washington may have the inside track on SS, though tough to immediately step-in. iirc, there was one game where Tedder moved to 2B and Janae played SS - Spencer said on LHN they were just experimenting. Tedder played 2B in travel ball. That would probably be a last resort. Suppose Grace Green entered the portal to pursue her pitching career but she was very athletic, good hitter, and could have helped in the OF - hated to see her leave. Suppose Miranda will continue to play some in the OF (fingers crossed, no injury). Re: Spencer. Any word on the Cal search for head coach ? Read that Cal will have online classes for the Fall semester. Cal initially dropped their baseball program a few years ago until rescued by prominent alumni. Hope softball stays. Signees include (Position(s)/Hometown/High School/Travel Ball): Carlee Ratcliff (1B/3B/New Boston, Texas/New Boston High School/Texas Bombers-NTX), Jayden "JJ" Smith (C/1B/Rosenberg, Texas/George Ranch High School/Texas Bombers 18U Gold), Alyssa Washington (SS/IF/Abilene, Texas/Abilene High School/Impact Gold DFW), Jordyn Whitaker (DP/1B/Jacksonville, Texas/Jacksonville High School/Texas Bombers-NTX), Ryleigh White (RHP/Washington Township, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy/Athletics Mercado) and Bailey Williams (UTL/Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley High School/Corona Angels). https://texassports.com/news/2019/11/14/softball-inks-six-players-to-its-2020-signing-class.aspx
  4. Chase aircraft does photography primarily. Link also has bio's of pilots. The photo-chase aircraft will maneuver as required to achieve the desired photographic position relative to the diamond, solos, or delta. The same rules and regulations which govern the 6-ship within the TFR and aerobatic box also apply to the seventh aircraft. The photo chase aircraft will never fly during an official demonstration. https://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/airshow/media/military/Thunderbirds_Maneuvers_Package.pdf
  5. ESPNU, today 13 May, 5PM, Game 3, 2012 Super Regional, Texas vs Oregon (game 3). If not mistaken, Mike White's initial trip to Austin. Unfortunate that game 2 (8 inn) which was the pivotal game is not shown. The game that Connie erred in not starting Rachel Fox. Poor Blaire had to start all 3 games. Fox transferred to aggy the following year. Though we went to the WCWS the following year, the 2012 SR really affected the program, imo.
  6. Most likely never heard of Shawn Izadi - quite a success story (lengthy article, excerpts) Dr Shawn Izadi Shawn Izadi, who balanced the challenges of school, football and playing in the Longhorn Band at UT, put that training and discipline to work in graduating from The UTRGV School of Medicine this spring. A walk-on for two seasons under Mack Brown, the Coppell, Texas native initially arrived on the Forty Acres in the fall of 2010 intent on one day attending medical school. The self-proclaimed science nerd chose to major in biochemistry after a recommendation from a friend, while also joining the band to continue his passion for music. It was during his time with the band and performing at football games that Izadi began to think about playing football, something he had not done since his sophomore year at Coppell High School. An unsuccessful open tryout in the spring of 2011 followed by another in the fall of that year did not discourage Izadi, who made the team as a walk-on in 2012 after a third open tryout. "I don't know what he saw, but Coach Brown took a chance on me," Izadi said. "Shawn has a never give up, never quit attitude and we just loved that about him," Mack Brown said. "What we saw in him was passion, determination, dedication and pride. He just kept coming back, was not going to be denied and once he became a member of our team, he poured his heart and soul into everything he did." Izadi worked with Longhorn Band Director Robert Carnochan on a plan that would allow him to dress out for football during home games and march with the Longhorn Band during away games. A look at Izadi's schedule during his two seasons as a walk-on are a testament to this. He would typically wake up by 5 a.m. for early morning weightlifting sessions at 6 a.m. This was followed by classes throughout the morning - consisting of biochemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry - then lunch and a short nap before practice at 1:30 or 2:00 p.m. Practice would run until around 6:15 p.m., at which time Izadi would make his way to band practice, which was held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., three or four nights a week. On the evenings he did not have band practice, Izadi would schedule his labs, which ran four hours per session. He would then return home to study until midnight or 1 a.m., then do it all over again the following day. "On the Forty Acres, you will meet individuals from every race, creed and background who bring their own individual story to create an amazing family that is over 50,000 strong. But despite all the differences and paths it took to become a Longhorn, everyone shares a common ambition – to be at their own best and chase their dreams," Izadi said. "I realized that people didn't come to UT to just get a degree or an education – but rather to transform themselves as human beings, to change and better the world in their own unique way. That is the tradition of The University of Texas." https://texassports.com/news/2020/5/12/former-football-walk-on-and-longhorn-band-member-graduates-med-school.aspx
  7. When some baseball players retire, they enjoy being able to break free from the constant cycle of exercise and watching what they eat. Judging by his transformed appearance, Sabathia has apparently enjoyed doing the complete opposite. Sabathia, 39, battled a number of health and wellness issues in the years leading to his retirement, including a recurring knee injury (he had surgery in 2016 but the pain continued to flare up), alcoholism (he checked himself into a rehab facility in September 2015), and a heart problem (he required a stent in 2018 to open up a blocked artery). He and the Yankees revamped his preseason training to focus on building strength in early 2018, shortly after he became a raw vegan. The Yankees, of course, can only longingly look at the photo of jacked Sabathia and wonder what their rotation would look like if they could slot him in. They could be upset that Sabathia decided to become totally jacked only after retiring, or they could look at this as an opportunity: if they endure another season of ceaseless pitcher injuries, Sabathia should be their very first call if they start to run out of warm bodies to send to the mound. https://sports.yahoo.com/cc-sabathia-has-missed-the-entire-point-of-retirement-by-getting-totally-jacked-153205683.html
  8. Stay strong, Junior ! Thoughts and prayers for all.
  9. Miss St vs SCar now on SEC Channel if you want to see Vic's team in action. Started at 9PM
  10. Best of luck to Tuesday (Ft Worth native). She accepted her role and was a great teammate. UNT is building a solid program under second year Coach DeLong. We won 3-2 in 9 innings back in Feb. Dang, I miss softball (and baseball). Edit: UNT was 19-5 with victories over ULL and split a DH with OU.
  11. Don't lease agreements have specific language about noise (barking), control of pets, and cleanliness after pets ? Can you share the specific issue ?
  12. Agree with Twice, solid post by L&P. In the market for a vehicle, I have read numerous articles on CVTs. Link below. As L&P states, some make better than others. Probably can't expect the overall longetivity with a CVT, but most new vehicles with a regular transmission are going to the 8 or 10 speed for gas mileage and some also have issues. https://www.carfax.com/blog/CVT-pros-and-cons
  13. Great observation ! Thought we would have won it all in '09 if there was a dedicated closer. Really hurt against LSU in Omaha. (The TCU dogpile was in '10, we beat them in '09 Super) The 25 inning game did not actually seem that long to me, relatively quick moving game, very nervous since we were visiting team. Check box score (below) only 11 walks. Note we had 20 hits but only 3 runs. https://stats.texassports.com/custompages/sports/m-basebl/2008-2009/austin-regionl4.html
  14. Still very disappointed that Aston did not release a public statement after her departure. Know it is difficult, but you just do it. Even Charlie Strong and Connie Clark issued statements wishing success for the players and programs.
  15. More details: Perhaps the multistate involvement is reason for Fed prosecution. BRENHAM, Texas — Former Blue Bell Creameries President and CEO Paul Kruse has been indicted on seven felony counts for concealing the deadly 2015 listeria outbreak on the same day the company plead guilty and agreed to pay a $19 million fine. Kruse has been charged with one count of conspiracy and six counts of wire fraud/attempted wire fraud. The company, meanwhile, will pay a $17.25 million criminal fine and a $2.1 million civil fine for selling tainted ice cream to federal facilities. “American consumers rely on food manufactures to take necessary steps to provide products that are safe to eat,” said Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt, with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division. The Department of Justice alleges in a 17-page indictment that Kruse and other Blue Bell executives knew about the outbreak and did little to stop it. Instead, the DOJ alleges, Kruse attempted to conceal the contamination for months before it was made public. “From at least 2010 and continuing through April 20, 2015, Blue Bell executives, including Paul Kruse, knew that appropriate practices to ensure sanitary conditions were not being followed or achieved at the Blue Bell manufacturing facilities,” the indictment reads. Kruse is the only executive named. Listeria monocytogenes is a potentially life-threatening bacteria that contaminates food and cause serious sickness. Ten people across four states were sickened by the listeria-contaminated ice cream in 2015 and three people in Kansas died. The indictment alleges that Kruse and Blue Bell executives knew about potential contamination as early as 2010 in two of the company’s manufacturing plants: in Brenham, where it's headquartered, and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. That contamination stemmed from leaking roofs and condensation, according to a government inspection cited by the indictment. In 2011, an employee created a listeria-testing program to selectively test ice cream for potential listeria contamination. Twelve tests from finished product were sent away. Days before two tests came back presumptive positive for listeria, the indictment said, Kruse ordered an end to the program. Kruse was allegedly made aware in February 2015 that ice cream made at the company’s Brenham plant tested positive for listeria in South Carolina. For the next two months, the DOJ said, Kruse ordered Blue Bell executives and employees to hide the outbreak from retailers and customers, according to the indictment. Later, when ice cream was ordered to be removed from stores and other areas, Kruse allegedly told employees to let people know it was a manufacturing error without mentioning listeria. Blue Bell didn't issue a public recall until March 13, nearly two months after the Department of Justice said Kruse and Blue Bell were first notified some of their ice cream had tested positive for listeria. An email obtained by the Justice Department from a Florida school district to Kruse and other company executives read, in part, “the decision made not to inform (the school district) of this potential health risk and to try and quietly just pick-up the products gives the impression of deception and lack of integrity. These actions are contrary to our past experiences with Blue Bell Creameries.” For each of the seven counts, Kruse faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Blue Bell closed all its plants in April 2015 with the intent to clean and update all its facilities. In all, it recalled more than 8 million gallons of ice cream. The DOJ said that since reopening its facilities in late 2015, “Blue Bell has taken significant steps to enhance sanitation processes and enact a program to test for listeria prior to shipment.” In a statement released on its website, Blue Bell said: "Five years ago, we were heartbroken about the events that led to our voluntary recall of all our ice cream from the market. We faced a situation our company had never dealt with before, and our agreement with the government reflects that we should have handled many things differently and better. We apologize to everyone who was impacted, including our customers, our employees, and the communities where we live and work." https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/former-blue-bell-ceo-indicted-conspiracy-justice-department/285-5ae8633c-b879-4191-b7f5-3f5742184937 Not a bad guy, burnt orange tie 🙂
  16. Yep, best to wait. Don't know, but with the factories closed dealers likely not motivated to move inventory except with extended financing incentives close to msrp. Most factories due to open in May. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/covid-19-automakers-plant-shutdowns-coronavirus-pandemic-outbreak/
  17. Trey Mancini writes his story for the Players Tribune after recently being diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. Lengthy, but nice read, great guy. 18. This week's Forty Acres Insider email. Nothing new, just repeat of policy with reminder that 1 May is deadline. EXTENDED SEASON TICKET RENEWAL DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MAY 1:It's also the final week for renewing Football season tickets with our extended May 1 deadline approaching. As I’ve said many times, we are beyond grateful for the passion on display by our loyal season tickets holders who are investing in our program by renewing. We know there are many more to come, and as we’ve said before, but to be sure everyone knows, rest assured that should the season get cancelled, or significantly altered, we will make an exception to our standard no-refund policy. Our dedicated Longhorn faithful will have the choice to have their investment returned, or to convert it (including the ticket cost) into a charitable contribution to the Longhorn Foundation. That said, we are in full preparation mode for an exciting Football season, so we hope you’ll make your plans to be with us this fall!
  19. Thanks for posting ! Will be interesting. A cursory look at the bios (all female) reveals all are native Californians. Marder (tOSU '10) and Deniz (UCLA '02) are hitting coaches while Chelsea's (Cal '05) speciality is defense - worked wonders with ours. Have mixed emotions. Certainly would hate to lose her but support her in her career goals. To return to Cal as head coach would be special. Have confidence that MW would hire an outstanding replacement.

  22. siap, 15 April AAS article. Texas coach Tom Herman wanted to hire his friend and former Kansas coach David Beaty for a low-level analyst job with the Longhorns before Beaty’s former athletic director cautioned UT against it. The details of the job offer were made public in court filings and first reported by the Kansas City Star. Beaty is suing Kansas Athletics, Inc., for $3 million in a wrongful termination suit. According to the Star, Beaty testified in February that he had been offered a job at UT, moved to Austin and had even received a UT staff identification number. It’s become commonplace around the country for head coaches to hire analysts, people who examine game film, prepare scouting reports for the full-time coaches and do self-scouting on their employer. Most times, these positions are filled by coaches who are between jobs. At UT, an analyst makes about $25,000. Before Beaty started work, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte called his Kansas counterpart Jeff Long as a courtesy, according to The Star. “Jeff stated at that point … ‘I wouldn’t do that if I was you. His behavior is egregious,’” Beaty testified. “‘It was definitely Level I.’ And that … I think it made Mr. Del Conte take pause.” A Level I infraction is considered the most serious by the NCAA. Beaty was later accused of a less serious Level II infraction, which was self-reported to the NCAA by Kansas. Ultimately, Texas did not hire Beaty. “I have no comment on that issue,” Del Conte told the American-Statesman on Wednesday. The university typically does background checks on all incoming hires. Historically, UT officials have steered clear of anyone under any possible NCAA cloud. Former football coach Charlie Strong had to fire one of his assistants the same day UT learned NCAA investigators were looking into his actions at a previous school. Beaty, Long and Kansas athletics are now entangled in a long-running legal battle over whether the school should pay the balance of his contract. Beaty was 6-42 in four seasons at Kansas from 2015-18. https://www.hookem.com/2020/04/15/report-kansas-ad-cautioned-texas-hiring-former-football-coach-david-beaty/
  23. See below. Different in that the seasons had started. Seems they will need a rollover plan for LHF donations and season ticket purchases. • Turn what you’ve paid into a GIFT to the Longhorn Foundation, which financially supports services like nutrition, sports medicine, tutoring, travel and career services for all of our 500+ student-athletes. Most gift options to the Longhorn Foundation are tax-deductible. • If a gift is not possible for you, we can CREDIT your account for the remaining ticket and season parking purchase balance, which can be applied toward any University of Texas Athletics ticket purchase made before August 31, 2020, including 2020 football season renewals and new season ticket deposits. • If neither of those options work for you, you may request a refund for your remaining ticket purchase balance by Friday, April 3. Refunds will be processed beginning Monday, April 6.
  24. True, my bad. Saw the article in the Statesman.
