  1. Very sorry to hear. Been thru the same with my last dog though not as severe. My understanding is genes are a prominent factor.
  2. AUSTIN, Texas – Legendary Longhorns pitcher Cat Osterman will have her No. 8 jersey officially retired on March 25 as part of ceremonies surrounding Texas' mid-week home contest against UT Arlington at Red & Charline McCombs Field. (Wednesday, 6PM) https://texassports.com/news/2020/1/21/softball-to-retire-cat-ostermans-jersey-number-on-march-25.aspx
  3. Smart has a 33-45 Big 12 record in five seasons, has never won a single NCAA Tournament game and not once has competed for a Big 12 title despite having suited up three future first-round draft picks. He’s 15-32 against Top 25 opponents. Smart has three years remaining on a contract with a guaranteed buyout north of $9 million. https://www.hookem.com/story/no-14-west-virginia-97-texas-59-humiliating-loss-turning-point-shaka-smart-horns/
  4. https://twitter.com/TexasSoftball?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author https://texassports.com/sports/softball/schedule Twitter has several photos of preseason practice which began 13 Jan. Game times posted on schedule. Strong ooc schedule, just disappointed the home tournaments do not include an overall stronger field. Some good teams like Colo St/NDSU/Liberty, but always enjoy LSU and Minn coming to town. We do host ULL (maybe a top 10 team) on 25 Feb - should be a good one.
  5. Probably not much. Red turned 92 last October. His wife passed away before Christmas at the age of 91. A great Longhorn !
  6. Not alot to siphon. Wilson’s salary at McNeese has not been announced, but the American Press in Lake Charles, La., previously reported that former coach Sterlin Gilbert’s base salary was $180,000. Lance Guidry, McNeese’s coach in 2018, also earned a base salary of $180,000, according to the American Press. https://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/college_sports/utsa/article/Former-UTSA-coach-Frank-Wilson-hired-at-McNeese-14981161.php
  7. Announced this week that Clarissa Davis and Huston Street will have their numbers retired in ceremonies this year - well deserved ! Still no honor for Cat - would have been the perfect time. Not familiar with the parameters for selection but from past articles parameters are not that transparent. Each case is decided individually. Jamie Ehteridge was the first female athlete to have her jersey retired in 2019. I know fans that have campaigned to the Administration for Cat's number to be retired. She has been honored that her number (8) has not been issued since her graduation.
  8. https://twitter.com/TexasBaseball?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author Huston's number (25) was retired today. Congratulations ! Nice short vid on twitter that perhaps someone more adept can embed. "I'm not going to let someone else get better than me … Greatness is just doing one good thing over and over again..."
  9. No love lost ! Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso gave her first-place vote to Oklahoma State, but the Longhorns gathered 29 overall points to Oklahoma State’s 27. https://www.hookem.com/2020/01/09/texas-picked-to-finish-second-in-the-big-12-during-the-2020-softball-season/
  10. Thanks for the info. Don't follow recruiting closely, but did know Naivar made the initial contact/very early visit.
  11. Naivar will be missed. Well respected by players, high school coaches, Jeff Traylor type personality. His recruiting legacy will be the flip of Sterns from LSU. Great job at the Alamo Bowl, Craig ! Best of Luck.
  12. You know the rules, pix ! 😉 Srsly, best wishes that your good health is completely restored.
  13. Saw this article or Yurcich. "[Mike] Yurcich is a guy whose name has been out there the last three years. Interesting how some of the fans view him but everybody else in the country wants him," Gundy said kind of wide-eyed during a press conference a few days before the Liberty Bowl. "Pretty interesting concept. At some point, Mike is going to move on. I told you guys last year during bowl prep that I wouldn’t be shocked if Mike is a head coach or moves on. He’s had interest from the NFL. There are NFL teams that have called about him as the NFL starts to migrate toward college football on offense. At some point, he’s going to move on. He’s 41 or 42. He’s at a point in his career where that that could happen. We would love to keep him here. We’re not going to be able to pay what other schools will potentially offer him. If he gets a run to be a coordinator at all the schools that are interested in him or maybe move on to the NFL, that’s probably going to be his next move. You just call it like it is. Some of the other coaching jobs you get at levels that are lower pay about a third or fourth of what these guys are making as coordinators. We hope to keep him as long as we can, but at some point he will move on. If he does, we wish him the best. He’s been very loyal and has been great for the program." https://247sports.com/college/oklahoma-state/Article/Offensive-coordinator-Mike-Yurcich-is-leaving-Oklahoma-State-127096910/
  14. Defense press conference. Orlando, adjusting to coaching change main topic.
  15. Does the new ballpark open this year ? Should have a Longhorn logo somewhere as a new park was reportedly an impetus for O'Sullivan to stay when we tried to hire him. 😉 Good luck this season !
  16. What is your recommendation for parking ? Read that San Antonio has a New Year's Eve downtown celebration which adds to the dilemma.
  17. Stephen Ross, media writer at BC, agrees. Ross always has good insight. t’s not great news for any of the other Power 5 conferences. CBS has said “No Mas” to the SEC and the broadcast rights to the conference are now expected to go to ABC/ESPN. CBS has been paying the SEC $55 million a year for less than 20 games a year. Disney is said to be willing to pay up to $350 million a year for the 15-17 games a season. Kudos to John Ourand of Sports Business Journal. He is the best in the business in covering this area. You can follow him at @Ourand_SBJ There is some risk for the SEC - in terms of media exposure to their brand. The SEC has owned Saturday afternoons for the past decade. The SEC will no doubt be a ”First Among Equals” in terms of the other Power 5 conferences already in the ABC/ESPN fold, but with CBS they were the Golden Child who received millions in publicity throughout the entire CBS sports package -- especially in the NFL games. On the other hand Disney had a great pitch as well. ESPN will have total control of the SEC media rights. That means more primetime games on ESPN. It means more broadcast games for the SEC on ABC on Saturday afternoons and evenings. It also means less primetime games, for among others, the Big12. Shit is about to get real. https://www.barkingcarnival.com/2019/12/20/21032513/cbs-just-bowed-out-of-bidding-for-the-sec-guess-who-looks-to-be-the-winner
  18. Best of luck to Janna. Very intelligent young lady who was a great teammate, respected, liked by all. May be eligible for an academic scholarship. Texas infielder Janna Roberts has hung up her cleats, a team spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday. Roberts has decided to focus on her academics instead of athletics. A sophomore, Roberts is studying aerospace engineering at Texas. A standout student off the diamond, Roberts earned a 2018 TGCA Academic All-State Team 6A nod and graduated Summa Cum Laude with membership in the National Honor Society and the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars Program. Texas added six names to its roster this offseason, but three seniors graduated and five players also left the softball program. Roberts and fellow infielder Malory Schattle decided to just become students at Texas. Meanwhile, pitcher Chloe Romero (Cal), first baseman Elicia Espinosa (Utah) and utility player Jaden Hoelker (UT-Arlington) all transferred. https://www.hookem.com/2019/12/18/future-aerospace-engineering-calling-janna-roberts-steps-away-uts-softball-team/
  19. Very sad ! eBay page link did not work for me. Quick search of ebay was negative. Several trophies and other sports memorabilia belonging to former University of Texas star Vince Young are now on eBay. An anonymous seller says they bought the contents of two storage units that previously belonged to Young at a semi-blind auction in Houston. “We’ve acquired 2 storage units formally [sic] belonging to the award winning, record breaking, newly inducted into the college football hall of fame, Football Star Vince Young,” the seller says in a post selling Young’s 2006 Rose Bowl trophy for offensive MVP. The “buy it now” price: $50,000. Young could not be immediately reached for comment. The seller’s eBay page also has listed as for sale Young’s Manning Award ($50,000); 2005 Maxwell Award for college player of the year ($50,000) and his Madden 08 Xbox 360 NFL award ($12,000). he seller also posted for sale Young’s helmet he wore during Texas’ 41-38 win over the University of Southern California in the 2006 Rose Bowl. “We will be listing rare one of a kind items from these storage units throughout the next couple months,” the seller says in the post. “You are welcome to pick up locally in Austin Texas.” Young was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame earlier this month, the 20th UT player to earn the honor. He played in the NFL for six years after getting drafted by the Tennessee Titans third overall and winning rookie of the year honors in 2006. Young was recognized in Houston Tuesday by Mayor Sylvester Turner and the Houston City Council, which pronounced it Vince Young Day. Despite the accolades, Young has been hit by some stinging set-backs. Earlier this year, UT fired the former star quarterback from his part-time job for poor work performance and “failing to maintain standards of conduct suitable and acceptable to the university.” Young, who was making $50,000 annually as the Neighborhood Longhorns development officer and a football camp specialist, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in January 2016 and sentenced to 18 months probation. He was arrested again in February of this year around 4:30 a.m. just outside Houston for allegedly driving under the influence. https://www.hookem.com/2019/12/17/vince-youngs-trophies-rose-bowl-helmet-ebay-storage-unit-auction-seller-says/
  20. Don't be surprised. Messingham coached WR and TE at Iowa St when Herman was OC and succeeded him as OC. Don't know if he would leave Klieman who brought him to KSt from NDSt. https://www.kstatesports.com/staff-directory/courtney-messingham/293
  21. This is very true based on my interaction with Tech associates. Tadlock did not accept the baseball offer.
  22. Saw this in the AAS for all you VB aficionados. 😊 Leave of absence was medical per Omaha World Herald. Former Nebraska outside hitter Capri Davis will transfer to Texas, the Longhorns said on Monday. “She’s an explosive athlete from the state of Texas that we are thrilled to get into our gym,” UT coach Jerritt Elliott said in a press release announcing Davis’ signing. “We are very excited to welcome her to our family.” Davis joins a 2020 recruiting class that signed outside hitter Madison Williams, libero Nalani Iosia, setter Naomi Cabello and defensive specialist Reilly Heinrich in November. Davis and Williams both attended Mansfield Lake Ridge High After spending the 2018 and 2019 seasons at Nebraska, Davis has two years of eligibility remaining. Davis appeared in 26 matches as a freshman. This season, she played nine times before taking a leave of absence from the Huskers. The 6-1 Davis, who will enroll at Texas this spring, averaged 1.2 kills per set at Nebraska. • Attended Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, Texas • Was named an Under Armour first-team All-American • Ranked the No. 21 overall prospect by PrepVolleyball.com • As a senior, averaged 4.6 kills per set and 3.1 digs per set with a .308 hitting percentage, and served 55 aces and had 85 blocks in 107 sets played • Led the Eagles to the Texas 5A regional quarterfinals with a 35-10 overall record • In her high school career, totaled 1,371 kills and 512 blocks with 136 aces • Played both middle blocker and outside hitter in high school • Played club volleyball for Texas Image and Drive Nation https://www.hookem.com/2019/12/16/nebraskas-capri-davis-to-transfer-to-texas-for-2020-volleyball-season/
  23. CBS had a camera shot of Urban in a suite at today's Wash/Phil game in DC.
  24. No idea, he quit posting on Shaggy about 2 years before its demise. iirc, he was a co-owner of the Ticket Experience in Houston. https://www.visithoustontexas.com/listings/the-ticket-experience/24346/
  25. Maria Taylor: " Coach, when was the game you knew Joe was not just elite, he was Heisman worthy ?" Orgeron: "It was Joe's team after Georgia last year. But when he made that 3rd and 17 against Texas, I thought we would go undefeated." Orlando has been a key in the last 3 Heisman winners (Mayfield, Murray, Burrow). But congrats Joe, well deserved !
