  1. That does not look good, and that is with unprecedented shelter in place orders around the country. And now we're going to start easing away from social distancing? Does not sound like a good plan at this point in my opinion.

  3. It's tapering off downtown, but it rained hard for half an hour or so. There's some localized street flooding at 5th and Guadalupe. It's nothing serious, but water is over the curb and on the sidewalk.
  4. Starting to come down in 78701. It's windy as fuck.
  5. When I eat fruity candy I oftentimes enjoy it, but I never crave a candy like a Starburst or Skittles. I'm all about chocolate candy. Definitely a fan of Reese's PB cups. I also like Almond Joys. A non-chocolate candy I really like is Payday. Werther's Originals are good, too.
  6. An issue I've noticed for some time is the Burnt Orange toolbar(?) at the top of the page which has the search bar, number of open tabs, etc will periodically turn all white only at Surlyhorns. This prevents me from seeing where to touch to close tabs. What I've been doing is pressing where I know the tabs open is supposed to be, and it works as it should. It's still strange, and was wondering if this happens to anyone else.
  7. I thought it was perfect, probably closer to medium than medium rare, but tender and juicy and damn delicious.
  8. I like rice. The veggies are/were frozen, but they're organic so that makes it okay. Seriously though, I have some brussel sprouts I wanted to roast, but my 7 year old won't touch them. She'll actually eat the mixed veggie blend seen above.
  9. What about the matching bowls and coffee mugs?
  10. No can do, but...... Moments before entering the 500° cast iron skillet. And moments before it was in my belly (No, that's not the whole steak. I shared with my daughter).
  11. 😆 No doubt! I let it sit out for two or three hours before I throw it in the skillet. I'm a fan of Alton Brown's method, but change the timing a little bit. I go for 45 seconds each side on the stove top, before putting it in the oven for two minutes a side. It seems to give it a little more char which I enjoy.
  12. Hey, how's it going?
  13. Haven't we lost like ten years of job growth over the last four to six weeks?
  14. Tramontina is the best bang for your buck for high quality pots and pans. They are currently on sale... https://www.walmart.com/ip/Tramontina-12-Piece-Tri-Ply-Clad-Stainless-Steel-Cookware-Set-with-Glass-Lids/327690686
  15. And how many of the 6% are still active cases? Calculating the fatality rate in the above methodology is equally as bad or worse than using only confirmed cases. Neither is correct; it's somewhere in the middle.
  16. What is the consensus amongst Surly virology experts regarding the reports of reinfection/reactivation of cases deemed recovered?
  17. I regularly get a look at 6x, Hanover Republic, Parsley Energy, Indeed, Google, Brandywine, and Thompson Hotel. All of them are still progressing.
  18. [OverlyOptimisticGuy] Go ahead and buy your Final Four tickets!!!!
  19. I haven't been keeping up, but is he expected to play as a 3 or 4?
  20. And to tie that into the topic of this thread, more people equals more customers to support all these locally owned businesses. And I don't have any data to back this up, but I speculate restaurants/bars/shops that have a large population in the neighborhood have an advantage over those relying solely on people driving from 5 to 10 miles away.
  21. It's more nuanced than this, but anti-growth councils have contributed to Austin's affordability issues. Limit supply in high growth, desirable areas to appease NIMBY neighborhood activists, and this is what you end up with. Token 5 story apartments along a few commercial strips add what, maybe 10,000 units in 78704 for example? The Austin metro has added over 500,000 people in the last 10 years. West Campus style zoning over many, many square miles of the central city would solve the issue, but would seem an impossibility given our electorate.
