  1. I found a nice bedtime story for the parents to tell their little ones during these difficult times...
  2. May I suggest starting a Covid-19 thread in the Gambling section of the website? https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/index.php?/forum/7-gambling/
  3. Exponential growth. Say there are currently 250,000 infected in the US. That's approximately 10x our confirmed cases which many believe is a reasonable assumption. With Covid-19's R0 it is believed that the number of infections doubles roughly every 3 or 4 days. But let's say 5 days to be a little more conservative. 5 days ago there were only 125,000 infected in the US. 10 days only 63,000. 15 days ago only 32,000. Virtually all of the infected here in this scenario have contracted Covid-19 in the last 2 weeks. Most of the serious cases and deaths in this scenario aren't even showing symptoms yet, or are only in the beginning stages of their illness.
  4. 1% hospitalization rate? .06% death rate? Ridiculous comparison.
  5. I haven't heard anyone mention it, but thinking about the "olds" dying has been an interesting experience for me. What I mean is my parents are 69 and 64 years old. Though they are "senior citizens", they don't seem that old to me. I'm sure a major part of that is the fact I'm officially a man per Gundy since I'm now 40 years old myself. But what is an eye opener to me is when I think "olds", or "senior citizens" I tend to think little ole blue haired ladies possibly using a walker. That is very far from who my parents are, but they both still live lifestyles I'd speculate would make it a very bad thing if they contract Covid-19. And not just my parents, but their friends that I've known for decades as well. They're almost all 60+, and many could stand to lose some weight, and/or smoke, and/or drink, they don't exercise, they don't eat particularly well, etc. It's just a scary thought that they are all at a very high risk of this fucking their shit up.
  6. It really seems like an article you'd read in The Onion.
  7. So retarded. It reminds me of the gas "shortage" a few years ago caused by nothing but people acting irrationally and panicing.
  8. It's a little disconcerting that all the stores are still having so many empty shelves. I kind of figured the masses would all stockpile, and after a few days things would start to normalize. That is not the case at the stores I've been going to. Even with the stores limiting purchases the shelves seem barren of many products. What's the deal? Are there people just going crazy and making multiple trips daily and saying fuck everyone else? It's getting ridiculous, and is frustrating when you can't buy what you need. Especially when I imagine some jackass with five years worth of dish soap sitting under his sink, and I can't find one fucking bottle.
  9. This particular spot I referenced is the South Austin Hyde Park Bar and Grill at 290 and Westgate. Great food, and a lot of great people.
  10. Someone I know working in a restaurant here in Austin said on Wednesday they did roughly $1500 in sales on takeout orders. Apparently they need to do about $3500 minimum in sales to keep the lights on.
  11. If that were to happen even a flu-like mortality rate would still kill 25,000. At a more realistic 1% CFR it's a quarter million. Hopefully the governor is speaking about the not likely to happen worst case scenario.
  12. Italy's deaths from Covid-19 just passed the number of deaths from China, though China's deaths are almost assuredly not accurate. 41,035 confirmed cases 3405 deaths 2,498 serious https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/02/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/
  13. Wait, where's this data? I hope you're right, but is this just wishful thinking on your part?
  14. Crane base installed at 6x: Hanover Republic Square: I can confirm as of today there appears to be no slowdown at any of the construction sites I've seen downtown.
  15. Law enforcement, correct? Is this just a precautionary measure?
  16. Does the ban on gatherings of 10 or more affect laundromats? (Asking for a poor friend)
