  1. There is about to officially be more confirmed cases outside China than in China as well. According to BNO worldwide 161,097 confirmed, with 80,844 within China.
  2. No. He's catching some flak for expressing his concern over what he sees (and I agree) as an impending disaster like no one alive has experienced. Would you be mad if someone "paniced" and started yelling to everyone to run because there's a gunman about to start firing on the crowd? Is that person guilty of overreacting, or being a fear monger? Or is their "panic" a reasonable reaction to what they see? Those thinking it's unreasonable still believe it's not going to be that bad. Hopefully they are correct.
  3. Okay, now I guess I give a shit. Definitely not two shits though.
  4. Only speculating here on my part, but I'd say look at Italy for your answer.
  5. How many of those aboard laughed off this pandemic when they booked their cruise? And I'm supposed to give a shit?
  6. What it's like talking to most people about Covid-19....
  7. Loved that era of MTV. Tom Green, Jackass, Andy Dick?!? The stupidity and absurdity was contained to humorous television shows, not "real life".
  8. Until it impacts them directly, or they are forced, the vast majority will not change their behavior. I'm guilty of it myself. I mean life does have to go on, but it is definitely going to fuck us very, very soon.
  9. Let's pretend there are 1,000,000 infected currently in the US. At a doubling rate of every three days that means 6 days ago there only would have been 250,000 cases. 6 days before that less than 65,000 cases. So in that hypothetical situation in the last 12 days the cases grew by 935,000. Or another way to put it, 94% of those infected in the US have had the virus for less than two weeks. That is why the sickness and death is not in your face yet.
  10. It seems the consensus has gone from it's not a big deal at all, to now it's a big deal but only for old people. I don't know, but that seems like cause for concern. The "mild" form many non-elderly will contract is still nothing to sneeze at, and may cause long term health issues after recovery. Even if it doesn't result in death, isn't a week or two long hospital stay pretty catastrophic? I realize that's not most, but isn't it still bad if it's 10%? I am very aware most cases in otherwise healthy, non-elderly people can recover at home, and will end up with no long-term issues. But what percentage will still be serious? What percentage will never fully recover? What percentage will in fact die? There is data showing the death rate is substantially higher in every age group except children. Sure, it's a small percentage, but what if half the country's infected? There is data which shows even healthy 30 somethings can be seriously impacted. There is data showing it is much more serious than the flu in 30-40 year olds. Should we continue blowing off millions of prime working years, child-rearing age adults catching this virus? I do not believe so. While it is worst for those 60+, it is a mistake to downplay it's effects on the rest of the adult population in my opinion. Sorry for the wall of text.
  11. Replace irregardless with irrespective. My apologies.
  12. Are you operating under the assumption this virus has not been growing exponentially across the US for some time? I've been under the impression this virus with it's R0 doubles the numbers of infections every 3 days or so. So yes, I am under the impression, irregardless of whatever testing is taking place or not, that the number of infections are and have been skyrocketing for some time. Hopefully the rate of spread slows significantly soon with appropriate social distancing. But then again Post Malone concerts, Spring Break travel, etc. are still taking place so I am not particularly confident it slows very much.
  13. That may be the hallmark of this epidemic, though. Even in S. Korea, which by all accounts is a best case scenario, they have patients that have died at home waiting in line to get a room in the hospital. It's never been thought the virus in a vacuum is particularly deadly, though much more so than the flu. It is it's level of contagiousness, including during the time before symptoms, and that 10+% are serious enough for an extended hospitalization.
  14. 17.7% positives. I know it may lower as testing ramps up, but that's fairly high.
  15. And some of the "flu" cases and deaths from this past season were probably Covid-19.
