I could see the height concentrated along 360 and Mopac, and stepping down as you near the residential areas. Of course the selling points to the NIMBYs would be reduced impervious cover, and all types of other "Green" features. Instead of acres of parking lot, you could have as some open space in exchange for some height in certain parts. And the latest stormwater retention and filtration. And a certain percentage of "affordable" housing onsite. And who knows what other "community benefits". But it's very doable. Who knows when, but I guarantee it will happen one day. Anyways, sorry for the threadjack...
  2. Outside of protesters at organized events, I've seen open carry in action maybe 3 or 4 times in Texas of all places. You've always been allowed to open carry a rifle. You see that much? Most people aren't trying to draw attention to themselves. The issue is whether or not the government gets to infringe on the Bill of Rights cuz it makes some people uncomfortable.
  3. Great news, except for the CHL instructors. Oh, and the bad guys who now have to worry about more law abiding citizens being more equiped to defend themselves.

Weird take. I've been there 2 or 3 times in the last few months due to my kid loving the Pokemon store. It's recently been remodeled, and was quite busy. Other than the closed Sears store it appeared to be doing quite well. It's also anchored by a Nordstrom department store, so I'm not really seeing it being considered "low-tier". With that said, that location has tons of potential for redevelopment. I could see another project similar to what's bring proposed for Brodie Oaks one day, only bigger.

Soccer is being played at Q2!
  8. That's both grotesque and demented.
  9. Yep. Like all things, there are always two sides to the coin. Having been a tradesman, both union and not, it does piss you off though when some unqualified yahoo, who probably shouldn't even be on the jobsite is doing your job. And you're competing against guys who use 1099 labor, oftentimes immigrants (NTTAWWT) who are fine working in unsafe conditions, for shit pay and no benefits. As I said, I can see both sides.
  10. Has any thought been given to renaming "Cloak Room" to "Douche Bag Central"?
  11. There are General Contractors who like to hire union labor, particularly on the big construction projects. I know unions in Texas oftentimes get a bad rap, but I understand why that's the case. It's certainly not always the case, but the quality and knowledge of a journeyman tradesman who went through a years long apprenticeship is oftentimes far superior than that of his peers. They also show up to the job sites with their required certifications, whether it be OSHA, Forklift, Boom lift, Swing stage, etc. You wouldn't believe how many rinky dink operations have their guys out there running equipment in which they either don't have, or have an expired certification. Or with expired or damaged, or non-existent PPE and equipment.
  12. $120 million. Easy decision for me.

I think it's bullshit, but I think that's a conversation to be had in another thread.

I heard about some crazed individual filling a Super Soaker with bleach, and spraying it at people's faces. Should the company manufacturing the water gun and bleach, along with the retailer selling these products be held liable for this sickos actions? Should Big Daddy Government ban Super Soakers and bleach to protect us?
  15. So Q2 hosting the USWNT, and most likely the USMNT in international competitions in it's first month or so of opening? That's pretty amazing!
  16. The real story is that over 80% of traffic fatalities are male. Road designers are systematically murdering men at a disproportionate rate, thus proving the Matriarchy is not only alive and well, but is intent on exterminating all men. The facts can not be disputed.
  17. Bloody Mary and cheese enchiladas with chili con carne sauce, and an over easy egg on top. If you don't dig it, your judgement is suspect.

    Gallagher!
  19. Sun City?
  20. That's not correct. Baton Rouge only has 200,000 or so in the city limits. As you said, the 800,000 is the metro population. Nashville is 600,000+ in the city limits, and near 2 million in it's metro. Ac

Anyone have a suggestion for a spot in South Austin to watch the match? I've tried two of the bars here in the southside, and neither had much enthusiasm. The games were on the tv, but most of the patrons did not seem particularly interested. I want to go somewhere that cheering loudly when a goal is scored will not cause people to stare, and I won't be the only one wearing Austin FC gear. Must I travel North?

Skeeters? Let me guess, this dumbass name was picked by a fan vote?
  23. The city of Austin covers about 300 square miles, and has about 1 million residents. The Austin metro covers a five county region with about 2.3 million residents. No one could argue UT is not a major part of Austin, and always will be, but I just don't see how a city of Austin's size and prominence could be considered a "college town".
