  1. To be extra clear, that map gif has been going around- it's very aspirational
  2. Embed of above video for the non tweeters
  3. The head of the Belovsky district of the Kursk region, Nikolai Volobuev, said the situation in the municipality is tense. According to him, the incomprehensible situation with the entry of Ukrainian sabotage groups caused panic. He urged everyone to evacuate the area. As we can see, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to carry out successful not only military but also psychological operations on the territory of the aggressor. More and more footage, entirely from Russian drones, is proving that Ukrainian troops are visually confirmed quite deep in Russian territory. The largest extent I could find so far is east of the village of Sheptukhovka, almost 25 km from the Ukrainian border. I think that the Russian claims of AFU being up to 35 km inside Russia are relatively correct. The Ukrainian thrust into Russian territory is so substantial that the Ukrainian artillery has to be deployed inside Russia in order to stay in firing range of the front line. The situation in this sector shows what Russians were likely trying to achieve in Kharkiv region. They wanted to have tubed artillery in range of Kharkiv City, but then ended up being bogged down in Vovchansk. What would you do if you saw this coming towards you?
  4. As a reminder, conscripts aren't supposed to take part in active combat, but perhaps the Russians are trying to get around this by saying they aren't supposed to take part in combat outside of the country. According to Russian Telegram channels, panic reigns in the border areas of Russia's Kursk region, where fighting has been going on all week. ‼️Russian media have introduced a new term: "voluntary evacuation". ◾️ there are no police, firefighters, medics or representatives of the Russian administration; ◾️Russian settlements, according to official information, have been abandoned by more than 76,000 people; ◾️ most people left on their own, as there was no organized evacuation, contrary to the Russian authorities' statements; ◾️ depopulation of villages became a catalyst for rampant Russian looting among the remaining population. "Stores are being looted, there is a collapse in Korenevo, Magnit has just been robbed. No water, no gas, no light. There was no organized evacuation, and if there was any, why haven't we in Lobanovka [Korenevsky district] heard anything about it?" - a local resident wrote. The situation is similar in other Russian border municipalities. Residents say that representatives of the administration have provoked a collapse in the border areas themselves by leaving people to their fate. At present, the administration of Korenevsky district of Russian Kursk region cannot be reached. People are forced to self-organize in order to protect themselves and their property and perform the functions of state and law enforcement authorities. ◾️ Residents of Kursk region who were affected will be paid 10,000 rubles each, that's about $100. Apparently, Russia has money only for contract soldiers and for war. Russia is gradually returning into the 1990s. In the video, a Russian journalist shares about cases of looting in Lgov, Kursk region of Russia
  5. Russian commanders refused to move conscript soldiers to the rear in Kursk region. They are considered a combat unit - Russian Agentstvo media. According to the media, the unit consisting of conscripts receives battle orders, and their commanders refuse to move them to the rears. There has been no confirmation that conscripts already take part in combat. Families of many conscripts in Kursk region reported that they cannot contact them at the moment. A Russian petition to remove conscripts from Kursk region has gathered about 3,500 signatures. 📷: 22 year old Nikita Dobrynin, Russian conscript who was killed in the Kursk direction. He is the first officially confirmed conscript to be KIA in that area.
  6. Just to put things into perspective: It took Russians almost a year and between 70,000 and 100,000 WIA / KIA in casualties to take 390 square kilometers (150 square miles) in the Avdiivka sector. They hailed this as a "genius" move. Ukrainians took in 5 days more than 470 square kilometers (180 square miles) in Kursk, with no significant losses, according Russian claims even up to 700 square kilometers, and there is no sign of them stopping.
  7. Yeah, it'd have to be in conjunction with giving up swathes of land back too.
  8. You give our nuclear power plant back, we'll give you yours
  9. Footage from the operation in the Kinburn Spit The GUR releases video footage of a recent landing operation on the Kinburn Spit. They report that on August 9, 2024, Ukrainian special forces conducted a successful raid on the Russian-occupied Kinburn Spit, destroying six enemy armored vehicles and eliminating around 30 Russian soldiers. The operation involved multiple special units, supported by the Ukrainian Navy and other security forces. During the mission, Ukrainian forces attacked key Russian positions and raised the Ukrainian Military Intelligence flag near a landmark on the spit.
  10. Awesome. Shows how well-planned this entire operation was
  11. Where ya been??
  12. Ol Gerasimov was told about the Ukrainian troop buildup ahead of the attack but dismissed it. Then told Putin at the security council meeting that the advance had been stopped (that video has been posted). Gerasimov was not part of the most recent security council meeting. Hang in there, Gerry.
  13. Glad to have Machinator back. He said he'll stay until the season opener. Is there a known backstory there I'm unaware of?
  14. An interesting issue to keep tracking:
  15. Probably trying to relieve pressure on the fronts where Russia is making consistent advances
  16. Full story in the video "I set fire and left with peace of mind" - sailor "Goga" burned down a Russian ship and joined the side of Ukraine. "Goga" is a former serviceman of the Russian Baltic Fleet. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he opposed the war, for which he was deprived of access to weapons, rearranged to put on watch and prepared to be sent to the "special military operation". The sailor managed to escape from the Russian Federation with the help of the GUR and the Freedom of Russia Legion, but before that, he burned down the ship he was serving on. "I called the commander of the combat unit, and they were at sea right then. I said, "You came from the sea, you are tired. Have a rest, and I'll be on duty." And I stayed alone on the ship for 24 hours. That's it. I set fire and left the ship," "Goga" said.
  17. More purges of people close to Shoigu: The head of Russia's military park and a top Defense Ministry official are arrested for fraud https://apnews.com/article/russia-military-arrests-putin-patriot-park-defense-04da2edce59bdb65f2029b6456385f54
