Texans, Fire Up Your VPNs/Present Your Government ID to View Porn Online (Now they want to ban all porn nation-wide)
I agree with this and generally think parents need to do better and be more responsible for their kids' moral, social, and emotional development. But, here we are where porn is only getting increasingly graphic, realistic (consider that a MS student can now make porn featuring his latest crush), and accessible. Parents, especially those with limited resources, cannot keep up and don't know what they don't know. They just know Johnny wants a phone and that's good for me because I can keep track of and communicate with him while I'm at work. My oldest is 6. We use the Amazon Fire tablets you mentioned. They still get into stuff we don't really like and, from what I can tell, we can't easily control it, but it generally works. I don't really know what we'll do as they get older. My wife and I both work but we have the luxury of knowing the concerns and knowing where to go to attempt to address them. We have ongoing and developmentally appropriate talks about bodies, privacy, and choice that will continue into more difficult discussions. However, we can't control what they are exposed to at school or, to an extent, at friends' houses. That's a bit worrisome, but we'll have to rely on open communication, general family cohesion, and intentional conversations around these topics to allow us to guide them as best as we know how. But that's not even my main concern- it's the vast majority of parents who are just unaware, unconcerned, overwhelmed, or uncomfortable with this topic and that doesn't seem to be getting better. So, just like we restrict access for children in all kinds of ways, we should do the same with porn. We of course won't stop it all, but to at least tone down the ubiquity of it, help parents who are trying but have limited means, and knowledge, etc. Maybe that means every company has to offer affordable, child versions of their devices that can't connect to porn websites and can't download full versions of social media apps. I don't know. Again, they're always going to be able to access it, but putting more barriers in the way when there's currently none, would help and would likely raise the age of first exposure, reduce unintentional exposure, and lower the heat in terms of the amount, intensity, and accessibility of this content. With all the technology we have, I'm sure there are other ways that would help create a floor for parents.

Thanks for your contribution to good faith discussions. This is an excellent illustration of how we arrived at our current state of social discourse and political stalemate.

You're not in the CR, so determine if the poster is writing in good faith and respond in kind, rather than assuming negative and false motives. I'm not a Republican and I don't care about your or anyone else's records. I'm a marriage and family therapist with a PhD in a related field and a decade of counseling experience. I've seen how porn can totally transform children and teens and I think it's worth addressing. The research indicates the same. I'm sure all of that is true and the law is clearly not well thought out. It doesn't follow that the issue doesn't exist, shouldn't be addressed, or can't be addressed through policy. Agreed. We have lots of problems. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do anything about this one while we wait for the state of our politics to change. In fact, working together to get something done could help create an environment where working on larger issues is feasible. Ignore the quote box below.

I understand why pretty much everyone is against this law in this thread and I agree that the way they went about this isn't a good approach. However, we should acknowledge the vast number of parents who legitimately don't have the time, energy, or knowledge necessary to teach and protect their children from the real problems that are associated with highly accessible, hyper realistic, and increasingly graphic porn. The folks who fit into this category are not the middle class to Surly 1%ers who have the resources to address this for their children. It's the low income and single parent families who work all week and already have very little ability to monitor their children. Just like all issues with children that are not being sufficiently addressed at the fair level, this is inescapably a societal problem and responsibility because all of society benefits from children who are raised with a healthy understanding of sexuality and intimacy. Now, this certainly doesn't mean that this law is the solution or even a good way to approach it, but in much of the dialogue I've seen around this topic, there's been a serious lack of acknowledgement of this as a problem at the societal level, without which this will never get addressed. We've had a couple decades of this as the norm and I think it's safe to say that admonishing parents and sex ed classes aren't doing it so a workable solution has to be found and it clearly can't rely wide swaths of parents suddenly changing their parental monitoring and technology purchasing practices, as nice as that would be.

After the fall of #Robotyne, the flanks of #Verbove are dangerously wide open for the Russians. Plus the 12 km between the two villages will be extremely difficult to defend for Russia as reinforcements would have to travel under Ukrainian surveillance and artillery. Almost impossible. ➡️ My estimate would be therefore that Ukrainian troops will use the created gap to move southwards and bypass the heavy defenses north of #Novoprokopivka. If this happens, Russians must abandon their trenches around the village. The possible beginning of a domino effect north of #Tokmak. Fingers crossed.

Yesterday, two L-39 training planes collided near Zhytomyr. Three pilots were killed Among the dead was a well-known Ukrainian pilot with the call sign "Juice", who took part in the air defense of Kyiv. Juice (Andrei Pilshchikov) was a MiG-29 fighter pilot. With the start of the large-scale invasion, he participated in Kyiv's air defense. In interviews with The Washington Post, Financial Times CNN, Fox News, BBC News called on Western partners to provide Ukraine with modern fighter jets.- Русский корабль - иди нахуй

Well that's because they were smoking on the plane... Investigators have a new version of the crash of #Prigozhin's plane - careless handling of ammunition on board during the flight, Russian media reported. This is connected with the fact that small arms, ammunition and grenades were found at the site of the plane's crash in the Tver Region, which apparently belonged to the passengers of the plane from among the #Wagner mercenaries. This is actually in line with the report about the flight attendent on board who told her family they were "repairing" the plane prior to takeoff. Edit: found it:- Русский корабль - иди нахуй

I haven't seen this mentioned. It's at least worth noting. Prigozhin's second plane flew to Azerbaijan It flew out of Vnukovo airport and is heading to Baku. It is not known who is on board. Recall, yesterday after the disaster this plane made zigzags in the sky above Moscow, and then flew to St. Petersburg. Later, the business jet returned to Ostafievo airport near Moscow.- Русский корабль - иди нахуй
