This is how you fix this (in my opinion)

Once a kid commits to a a school, the school puts kid into a database. Isn’t a public database so kids can keep their silent commitments and be able to make their videos.

Once a kid signs with a school, he has to stay for a minimum of 2 years (6 semesters). At that point, he is allowed 1 restriction free transfer with immediate eligibility.  The kicker is the kid only gets to have this transfer if he hasn’t decommitted during the recruitment process (thus the database).  Would control transferring to just RS sophomores, juniors and seniors and would control the 15 decommitment kids (Hello Jordan Elliott).

Graduate Transfer rules stay the same.

*Yes this means we wouldn’t have gotten Bru, but I’m looking at an overall fix.

You can require them to stay 6 semesters in order to transfer and immediately be eligible, but you can't make them stay 6 semesters in general.  Kids still deserve the option to sit out a year if they're unhappy or have issues.

So it's possible we still get McCoy under that rule if he really is okay with sitting out a year instead of staying at USC.

Well we're going to see what it's like with just Powell and Maxi as our only real bigs for the rest of the year(Dirk can't play enough to really be counted, particularly on Defense). So we'll see.

I'm not sure KP is a true defensive shut down defender.  He'll block shots for sure.

Also, I think part of the Mavs plan to keep KP healthy is to allow him to play like Dirk did where he's not having to grind in the paint by himself or anchor the team as the rebounding presence.  I think they want someone else to come in and take the bumps and bruises and free up KP to be a pick and roll/pick and pop player who helps out to block shots.

Give me an uber-athletic wing and someone who can play above average defense against pg’s and bang home open 3’s.  Bring back Powell, Maxi, and DFS.

I don't know what free agent this is if we can't get KD, Klay or Kawhi.  I definitely don't want Jimmy Butler aka worst teammate in basketball.

Terrence Ross and Danny Green seem to be the next best unrestricted free agent wings that fit that description.  Pretty big drop off.

Unless we use the cap space to trade for someone, I think it's going to be Vucevic.

So Locked on Mavs podcast guessed that Donnie could use the trade exception at the draft in exchange for an asset (picks maybe) to make a deal work.

Seems like we are going to be all quiet until then.  Unless I'm missing something.

The problem with this is it would use up some of our cap room and I'm pretty sure they want to go get Vucevic or Mirotic or someone.

Never seen so many red flags in one picture

    Married on a Tuesday
    Wearing a hat
    Wearing a Mr. Rogers cardigan
    No show socks
    Sneakers
    Stupid Zip-tie
Shirt buttoned up to the top with no tie
Not smiling at his own wedding because he's too cool
And his wife is dressed like a normal human being, so it's not like it was a mutual thing.

I'm sorry let me add "tweeting during his own wedding" to this.

The Texas basketball program is mired in mediocrity. The Horns are 12-10 this season and 2-6 over their last eight games. Through his fourth season, Shaka Smart is just 62-60 as Texas coach. He has yet to win an NCAA game with the Horns and he likely won't qualify for the tourney for the second time in the last three years. All of this despite what looks like it will be a third consecutive one-and-done big man (Jaxson Hayes, preceded by Mo Bamba and Jarrett Allen).

I don't know exactly what the answer is for the Texas basketball program. But I get the feeling Shaka Smart isn't it. If anyone knows of a basketball coach that was .500 through their first four years at a program and then eventually became a national power, please let me know.

    Tom Brady > Jared Goff

    Bill Belichick > Sean McVay

Congrats to Brenham native and Texas alum Malcom Brown on his winning his second Super Bowl ring!

    **

With the news that Derrian Brown's medical issues are serious, we should fully expect the Horns to make a run at another grad transfer at running back akin to Trey Watson. It was likely going to be the case without Brown's issues, but it's almost guaranteed now. After all, the Horns return just three scholarship RBs on scholarship - Keaontay Ingram, Kirk Johnson and Daniel Young. Texas is also expected to give Jordan Whittington a trial at RB this spring, too. But I just can't see the Horns entering the 2019 season with only three true RBs. The risk and likelihood of injury at that position is simply too great.

    **

Something to think about... If Whittington somehow ends up earning real time at RB, it gives Tom Herman's offense an interesting opportunity. With Whittington, we're talking about a guy who could truly make it a five-wide set without the Horns having to substitute. A lot of teams switch up their linebackers to cover running backs out wide. But if Whittington motions out of the backfield or lines up near the boundary, it's tough to see a defense making that switch, which in turn could give more favorable match-ups to other receivers inside.

It sounds like Houston North Forest offensive line recruit Javonne Shepherd is all but set on signing with the Horns on Wednesday. Shepherd is a really high upside prospect, and I mean as high as any OL in the state or country. He has immense size at 6-foot-6, 300-plus pounds and he's also very athletic. He even played some goal-line running back and scored on his highlight film. Here's the link to that:

    http://www.hudl.com/profile/7660667/Javonne-Shepherd

However, the knock on Shepherd, according to 247Sports analyst Barton Simmons, has been off the field concerns, some of which caused him to miss some playing time as a senior. Yet if Shepherd bears down and commits himself to being a great player over the next few years, he can be as good as he wants to be.

Shepherd will join two other athletic offensive linemen in this class. Both Tyler Johnson and Isaiah Hookfin are very good athletes for their respective size. A position group (the OL) that was once a real albatross around the neck of the program is looking better and better with each passing year.

Isn't it kind of embarrassing for a guy who covers Texas recruiting to have to defer to a national  writer in order to get information about personal issues on a Texas recruit?

He really needs Simmons to tell him what the issues are?  Is he half retired or something?

  8. I like the theory that Davis just listed teams he knows can't offer a good enough trade.  That way he looks like less of a villain and he still gets what he wants.  And he helps the Pelicans get some better value so he can get out now.

  9. I don't know how to embed tweets but McMahon had some tweets about the Kristaps press conference.  While the plan is to keep Kristaps out the rest of the season, he said he feels good and wants to get on the court...

Also, Cuban said they both agree Kristaps will get a long term.  And Kristaps said he's on the same page.

  10. The fact that he "didn't feel like" going is pretty great.  Also that he was "upset about something that happened yesterday".  Would be even better if the thing he was mad about was directly A&M related.

Going to call this recruiting weekend a win.

So what are they supposed to do, keep an injured big man who is injury prone who doesn't want to be there? He's not going to play this season. He's a free agent this summer (I think). They got DSJ in return. That right there is good enough moving forward for them. They get 2 draft picks from a team who hasn't made the playoffs now for 3 years. They will get a damn good player this draft.

I'm not saying they came out fresh and clean but they were definitely not taken to the cleaners. What if KP is always injured and ends up being a complete bust? Mavs are going to look dumb as fuck.

    1. KP is a restricted free agent this summer. Meaning it can be matched.

    2. New York isnt getting a draft pick this year.

    3. You are the only person who thinks DSJ is a good return.

I’m excited about picking up Burke too. Dude can hoop a little bit.

Burke, Hardaway, and Lee can all shoot 3's (at least 34% or higher). I'm curious if Courtney Lee is actually dead or if he would be better if given some actual minutes.  Has he been hurt?

With Doncic and Porzingis as the foundation, I basically just want three point shooting, athleticism and defense from anyone else on the roster.

Nobody was very confident in the Spring of 2008.  Hell in the spring "Chiles Should Starts" was still the mantra. That is part of the reason the 2008 season was so fun. Colt took a humongous leap forward that no one saw coming, our freshman DBs turned out to be Thorpe quality or serviceable, we had folks like Chris O have monster senior seasons, and Quan and Ship exploded.

I meant 2009.  I was thinking about after 2008 so I put spring.  I'm dumb.

  14. Given that I hope we'll be out of the lottery those years and given that our non-lottery 1st round picks have been guys like Maurice Ager, Jared Cunningham, and Justin Anderson, I'm not losing too much sleep over those picks.

Just need to be smart with free agency the next two years. It'd also be nice if Hardaway starts putting up Atlanta like numbers again in a complimentary role.

  15. 1. From the moment Luka put on a uniform, I was worried we wouldn't be able to build talent around him. I'm not worried now.

    2. We are no longer defendant on signing state players in free agency. Which we have no history of being able to do and which we would have had to rely on without this trade.

    3. I think this will be the most entertaining this franchise has ever been.  I'm more than happy to watch this.

    4. I think Luka will love this.

  16. Maybe it's just blind optimism, but I think quite a few of those defensive replacements have a good chance to be better than their predecessors.

    Boyd - Cook:  Downgrade
    Davis - Green/Boyce: Downgrade
    Locke - Foster/Brown/Jamison:  Upgrade
Gary Johnson - Caleb Johnson: 50/50
    Anthony Wheeler - Floyd/McCulloch: Upgrade
    Hager - Ossai:  Huge upgrade
Omenihu - Graham/Roach:  Downgrade but going from potential 1st rounder to still some of the best talent on the team
    Nelson - Coburn/Ojomo:  Potential upgrade

Not to mention we arguably have the best safety tandem and depth in the nation playing behind all of that.

I feel more confident about the offense going into a season than I have since spring of 2008.

Everyone was pumped when JS committed but ever since he has been pulling on your heart strings, nothing but negativity. We should be thrilled to have JS stick to his commitment.

I think this is one scenario where, regardless where he signs, the fans who get him will be happy and the fans who don't won't really care much.  And neither will be wrong.
