  1. Yeah I’m sure that’s why the 6 point threshold was chosen. Just going to forget that ever happened and act like we win that game with RT lol.
  2. They really do. Most of my family is from Nebraska and it’s hilariously pathetic. I watched the ‘09 Big 12 Championship with all of them. I was a fucking teenager celebrating a last second kick for a conference title and berth in the national championship, and my uncle’s wife cussed me out and finished with “I hope you’re happy.” All I said was “ Of course I am.” Especially because they had been shitting on me since the moment they locked up their division. They hated us before that game obviously, but the one second being put back on the clock will haunt them forever. They completely disregard the fact that the ball hit the sideline with a second left, claiming a BCS conspiracy just like Pelini. Sure wish the BCS had conspired for us in ‘08. Even with that amazing moment, the 2010 victory was the sweetest for me because they were just so confident they would get the last laugh against us before running off to the Big 10. Corn aggy.
  3. Their best win without him was when Creighton couldn’t make shit from outside and couldn’t stop turning it over stupidly. My dad went to CU so I watched the entire ugly ass game, and it was by far the worst performance of the year that they had with a healthy Kalkbrenner. If he was healthy this would probably be a pick ‘em game. Hopefully we end his replacement’s hot streak and really make them miss Freemantle.
  4. The Sir’Jabari article on The Athletic mentioned that we are 10-1 in games decided by 6 points or less. The only loss was the game @TCU which was frustrating, but this team is still so damn clutch. Xavier is 10-6 in the same games. The losses include @DePaul, @Butler, and Villanova at home. They have some solid wins too of course, but not as many as us. Thought this was a good sign going into what most expect to be a pretty close game.
  5. I agree with your take and don’t even think it’s close. I’m in my mid to late 20s and have spent a lot of my time outside of the state besides college, and hating Texas just seems like the cool thing to do for people my generation and younger. Even by fans of teams we have no association with. We all saw those ECU fucks displaying this for three days during the Super Regional. Now I’ve been seeing Xavier fans giddy about getting their chance. I’m not sure exactly when it started to ramp up. From my experience, it partially stems from people who hate the state of Texas in general for whatever reason, which I’ve come across in multiple states from Oregon to Michigan.
  6. “It’s literally a strategy for us that only we know.” Hopefully Sean Miller doesn’t have a subscription to The Athletic
  7. Damn, sounds like I chose the wrong side to be on. With UT fans in 212, I assume our bench would be in front of Section 107 for both games then if we win Friday regardless of whether it’s against UH/Miami.
  8. SIAP from last week, but interesting that they also seem to think Tre Johnson wouldn’t like the Donovan hire and would follow Terry. This would be fascinating to see play out. If Donovan wants in, have to think we lock him up barring us winning the title.
  9. Must mean RT will fail. Glad it’s settled and I can worry about other things for the next three years.
  10. I’m aware. Two sentences later I noted that I wasn’t saying it has worked out well so far, just that it is interesting that there are multiple major programs with far more success than Texas that have decided on less experienced coaches than RT, for whatever reason. I know Coach K prepped Scheyer for years. Whatever we do, I have no reason not to trust CDC’s history on basketball especially.
  11. Yeah I guess that might’ve been just a personal hyperbolic opinion as I’m a big basketball guy and think this is our most talented team and title contender in any of those sports since Colt. Even though baseball has had some good teams make Omaha runs and get close to reaching the title series, and those football wins would’ve been massive for program momentum, but ultimately wouldn’t have cemented us as national contenders. This team is just a rare combination of talent, depth, experience, and chemistry. And most of all a great story of success in the face of adversity. I would do a lot of things to see us cut down the nets in Houston knowing Beard’s ass is sitting there watching in some hotel in Mississippi, getting berated by Randi.
  12. Yep agreed. I think while the Sweet 16 feels awesome and I’m really happy with the coaching especially while we have been on this hot streak, this has been a top 10 team the entire year and with that the goal should be to at least play for a chance at the Final Four. Shit, most rankings I’ve seen of the S16 teams have us in the top three or four teams remaining. Nobody will fault them for losing to Houston in the Elite 8, but I already know the fanbase is going to have a miserable and contentious couple weeks if we drop this Xavier game. Besides the last one vs Mississippi State in the 2021 CWS, Friday’s game feels like the most critical point in the big three sports since the title game vs Bama. Until the next one hopefully.
  13. Even two of the basketball blue bloods in Duke and UNC have very recently elevated internal assistants with less experience and success as a HC than RT has this year alone, literally none. Tommy Lloyd was also only ever an assistant before Zona. Kyle Neptune had one .500 season at Fordham before getting the Nova job. Not saying anything about the quality of these hires or how they’ve performed so far, but it seems to me that it is becoming more normal to stick with program continuity over making a splash when it comes to hiring college basketball head coaches. Even the guys that the media hypes up like Cooley and Pitino yesterday aren’t guaranteed anything (I think Cooley ends up majorly regretting this decision). Yes I’d take Donovan or Jay Wright right now, but those are not happening.
  14. Fuck it. Ticket prices for Session 1 on Friday have dropped a ton and I will give this decent single seat in the lower bowl away for $50. $40 if you buy me a beer before tipoff haha. Very trustworthy young man and can transfer ASAP through the AXS app which the venue uses for all tickets. I’m just an idiot who bought a solo ticket out of excitement walking out of the arena in Des Moines and I want to get an extra Longhorn in the building if anyone needs one or an extra. No horns down throwing motherfucking Jayhawk/Wildcat/Musketeer/Cougar will be in a seat on my watch, I’d rather eat the cost completely (unless some beautiful U of Miami girl needs one). DM if interested.
  15. No doubt. It was more of a compliment towards their potent offense this football season.
  16. Honestly Tennessee’s football team this past season might score more points than their basketball team as of late.
  17. While Xavier shoots it at a very impressive clip, their average threes per game is pretty close to ours at 7.4 (we average 7.1, Gonzaga is at 7.7 for example). Doesn’t seem like they live and die by it like Penn State does, who made over 10 per game this season (fucking insane). Xavier is still a tough team to guard, but I think Penn State’s unique style and movement really wore our guards and Timmy down by the second half until we seemed to regroup after the timeout, although they did miss a couple solid looks still. In the first half we were just flying around like organized madmen and doing so definitely helped us win the game in the end. If you don’t give it everything you have and more, that PSU team in their end of season form will do what they did to ATM all day. May be wishful thinking, but I’m hoping that was part of the reason we missed so many good attempts from deep. What I‘m getting at here is we have definitely seen and done well against Xavier’s style of play this year, while PSU was a tough prep for in two days. Obviously I want to see that we are still aggressive per usual on defense, because they can be had turnover-wise (they are 216th in the country in turnovers per game at 12.2). If we can limit the TOs again and win the turnover battle, plus maybe just maybe shoot at least our average from three, I think we should be happy with the result. EDIT: lost track and realized this wasn’t the game thread, don’t mean to derail
  18. I was in the nosebleeds and the only Texas fan in my section. Pretty sure everyone around me thought I had lost my mind. Admittedly, I was going nuts during the last 4:45. I’m just so used to the feeling I had when we went down three evolving into pain and a loss after so many years, it was truly one of the most satisfying Longhorn wins I have been at in any sport. I’m addicted to the thrill and headed to KC, ready to watch these guys battle again. Jobs not finished. Not even close.
  19. Penn State was 9-2 in their last 11 following a four game losing streak that must have shook some life into them and I assume taught them to commit to small ball and their three point shot. Truly one of the hottest teams in the tournament with one of the best players in Pickett and a few incredible shooters. Also the oldest team in college basketball. Compare that to 3 seed Baylor who limped into the tournament after hitting some sort of wall, and honestly I’d much rather have played Baylor than Penn State right now. All that will be remembered is that they were a 10 seed that challenged us, but I think it helps to provide some context when saying we had an easy route to the Sweet 16
  20. I have a single in Section 102 Row 24 if any Horns don’t want to deal with the ticket sites or fees. Only looking for $100. My brother decided he wanted to go with me after I’d already bought the ticket, and would rather make sure the seat goes to someone in burnt orange.
  21. This post is how I found out they legalized, so I got you. Looking around it seems like shit is relatively expensive as expected with newly legalized states. Worth it to help curb my basketball anxiety.
  22. Yeah I got scammed on seatgeek in Des Moines. Had previously used seatgeek for 7 years and countless tickets with no issue, but I’m done with them now. Night before Game 1 I bought a ticket in a better section that the guy ended up double selling to some ISU kids during Session 1. Luckily I had two seats and was able to get in using the valid ticket I’d bought the week before and just sit in the shitty section.
  23. I’ve rewatched the last five minutes countless times already. The whole country thought we were dead at that point, but I know our guys never had a doubt. Just needed to chill out for a second and lock back in. Funny part was barely seeing any Horns down on the jumbotron til that moment, then every PSU fan and pasty midwesterner in the building was doing it during the timeout. Never fails.
