  1. Holding! being tackled from behind.....must be Big12 officials
  2. Dude NEVER catches a ball when it matters
  3. Not really sure how you thought or think I am disparaging ANYONE that chooses to join the military. What you wrote above I experienced for 5 years and it was great. I’m Still reaping benefits from that brief period of my life. My post had to do with military brass and the policies/politics in play that can deter those that would maybe otherwise join. I responded to someone stating that their son being stop-lossed while in the Air Force. The AIR FORCE not meeting their recruitment goals (whether good unemployment or bad) for 2 years running is an issue that needs some correction.
  4. First, hats off those that are still signing up and continuing/willing to serve. But this just shows you how fucked up the military currently is. When the AIR FORCE (other branches too) ARE NOT meeting their recruiting goals (again), maybe a re-evaluation of policies, priorities, and motto .....FLY, FIGHT, and WIN needs to be looked at. Curious as to what your son's career field is? I was in a critical career field (with quite a bit of money and training invested) in the 80's, a time somewhat similar to now with a lot of sabre rattling going on and when I told them I was done, ....OK., See ya later.
  5. Sideline gal talking about the smell of burning rubber....
  6. Fucking ref moved the damn ball a yard farther than where his knee was down....terrible spot.
  7. Dang...RIP JB. Thanks for the cool, laid back songs.
  8. We didn't have the wishbone offense until 1968.
  9. In general terms, peacetime requirements for 130's is set at a 6000' runway. Combat at 3000' though they can land and takeoff in less than that. My unit set up runways for them in the 80's at or under 3500' for SpecOps and many of those were dirt strips. My old unit and the 130 jocks especially, (greatly under appreciated and overlooked) are still doing those short field landings today. For those on here wanting the military (National Guard first due to being a state run asset) or FEMA to step in quickly /ASAP , that has to be requested by the state authority (Governor) before the Feds can come in and just start taking over. As noted above, Blackhawks would be best utilized for any movement for supplies and evac so as to not clog roads and making a bad situation worse. The first air units ( 5 Blackhawks for SAR and 1 support Chinook) into Katrina were from TXNG Texas Task Force 1 (Camp Murray and SA) flown by guardsmen with the rescue swimmers coming from ATCEMS SpecOps/STARFlight. The Coast Guard had moved their air units inland and east to avoid any damage so the Texas crews flew in from the west the following morning at daybreak and were first over the city evacuating people. The FEMA teams delay with Katrina happened due to a (no CR) Dem governor not wanting federal help from a Republican administration. Even with those delays, multiple DMAT (Disaster Assistance Medical Teams) were deployed to the airport and others to the Superdome, working under pretty abysmal conditions (no power /plumbed water) but treating and evacuating up to or more than 1500 patients daily. Those problems were improved upon with AARs and better pre-deployment of assets in the following years with subsequent storms. In 2006 and it turned out to downgrade to a tropical storm once landfall, but numerous federal FEMA teams with state staffing (26 or more if my memory is right) were pre-deployed throughout Atlanta ( easier access to mobilize to outlying areas wherever landfall was made or heaviest destruction) for Hurricane/TS Ernesto. This was the first major storm after Katrina with major damage expected. Those teams included both SAR and DMAT and mobilized for at least a week prior (hurricanes much easier to predict /pre-stage than wildfires). Ernie turned out to give really nothing more than a pretty good light show and thunderstorm in downtown ATL. Most teams were demobilized soon after that first week.
  10. I'm with ya but doing that would cause an overloading of what little public transportation is here or in any other city in America. You'd be amazed at what the dumbfuck drivers of this country do when they hear and see lights and sirens.
  11. Halloween weekend 2010, and Texas was playing Baylor. That same Saturday, Fat Tire Ale had their Tour de Fat festival on the east side. The wife and I were going to that for the slow bike parade and costume party. We texted my folks who were in town for the game and told them we would meet up at Scholz’s with them as they were there pregame. My dad was worried about finding us. I laughed and told him we would be easy to spot. Just head out to San Jac. Not sure if he was more embarrassed [emoji15] by me or his DIL dressed as a naughty Dottie [emoji23] Biking back to the car, EVERY tailgate we passed had to have us stop by for pictures. Drank a lot of beer before getting back. Anyway,…Fuck Cancer. RIP Paul/ PW Herman Say hi to my Dad for me. [emoji869]
