  1. That same thing happened in the movie Memphis Belle (dude falling from a 17 in front and without a chute on)
  2. 24's and 17's were NOT pressurized. Huge openings for those waist gunners 🤷‍♂️ B29's that flew in the Pacific theater were the first mass produced pressurized (by design) bomber. Year is 1943....The G model with the chin turret was end of '44-early 45. And that wasn't us at first. The Brits did that when the early models that we produced specifically for and gave them performed poorly with the Allison engines (no high altitude supercharger) at higher altitudes. The Brits used those first 51's for low altitude (below 15000 ft) fighters and reconnaisance . They experimented with the Rolls Royce Engine first with some of them, had the North American plants (and Packard) here in the US start producing them with the new powerplants instead of the Allison's and the rest is history. Yep, more 24's were produced and argument could be made for stronger contributor for dropping bombs (bigger payload), the 24 probably doesn't get the love due to the survival factor. The Liberators had a higher chance of catching fire and and the high wing to the fuselage made it hard to survive ditching or crash landings. The wings also departed from the aircraft due to the higher wing when hit by flak. About 20 years ago I had the chance to get inside both a 17 (the one that crashed last yr) and a 24 when they came to the Tacoma Narrows Airport. $20 to tour inside both. Surprising how little room there was in each and I am not a big guy (5'9) More surprising though was that the 24 was a much bigger airframe, but there was even less room INSIDE than what the 17 seemed to have. I thought then and still do now it would have been much more difficult to get our of a stricken 24 than a 17. Good reading for the 24 is Stephen Ambroses book The Wild Blue. Does a great job of covering George McGovern (who never exploited this when running for president) and his time flying 24s out of Italy. Little different also noted with him is that you flew with different people and crews each flight where as the 8th and 17's, crews stayed the same unless killed or wounded.
  3. There isn't. Gonna need some pitching and freshman fielders to step up and still get production from the vets. Hopefully we are ALL pleasantly surprised by a production like last year. Be ready and play the games hard. Good things will happen. 🤘
  4. I Survived the weekend! (and @Nicole44 😜) The Mrs. even brought this subject up when I told her I had gotten us a room in one of the buildings off of Rainey this past weekend for our anniversary. (I even strolled the shadows at night and parked within spitting distance of the shores where men apparently forget how to swim)
  5. Now just imagine if you lived west of the Y. Saaaaay Bee Cave, Lakeway, or Dripping Springs and you had to drive thru that mess EVERYDAY (for the last 13 years 🤬) edit: Ha! just noticed your username...
  6. FUCK Cancer! Sad to hear that he is gone. He was great with his song support, but also his visits to the troops deployed around the world. RIP Toby Keith 🇺🇸
  7. Cuz Mike Leach is no longer here to the call out ALL the Swiftys on this board...
  8. The media/player board in right center was the one needing parts/special bulbs from China. It is finally fixed and working. That's the one in left center. It wasn't broke. Was a great day yesterday as others have noted. Anniversary weekend, even got Mrs. BGH to the Disch to enjoy the game.
  9. Last yr they started emails out on February 3rd for those fully paid, and a notice to contact them (Texas Athletics) if not getting an email with tickets by Feb 9th. Feb 3rd last yr was a Friday, so maybe notices start tomorrow.
  10. Thanks again for your info....the vet had said the same thing about quills moving around plus she had said that she thought there was at least one or two still imbedded deep in Emmy's gums, so I have been checking them both daily to see if I can find any. Have gotten two out of Em's mouth (one on the roof of her mouth, the other by a lower front tooth) and the two pics below are those taken from Charley. The smaller was taken today above her front top teeth where the gum line meets the inside of the lip and the other (longer one) I pulled from above her eyebrow late Tuesday. It had some cactus thorns around it so I originally thought that's what it was as the black tip was what was poking through her skin. Tweezers wouldn't work, so I used some needle nose pliers, got the right angle and upon pulling, that whole quill was pulled out. It had gone through her eyebrow and what I originally had found was where the end of it was coming out again. If it hadn't gone through and through, it would still be in her to move to who knows where.
  11. Anyone have more info on this??? (besides it sucking)
  12. THANKS for the info. Sorry to hear about your Jolie though. She could have been our Abby's twin. Abby made my wife a dog LOVER. She passed in 2018 after a great run of 17 yrs.
  13. Was almost my first reaction too (knowing they were both back) BUT.....my self preservation skills kicked in knowing to not piss the Mrs. off even more.
  14. More interesting night and TODAY than we wanted .... Sometime yesterday in the late afternoon I must have left one our gates to the back yard open. We live in the hill country with acreage and there are plenty of deer to entice the dogs to go after. Charley and Emmy got out sometime around 5:30 and I wasn't aware of it until the sun was almost setting. They are both chipped but neither had their collars on. Called the wife and a frantic search ensued in the dark until almost midnight. Usually we are able to get them back within a 1/2 hr or so, but neither of us had seen where they went (plenty of big acreage behind us). Wife was doing well but we were both a little frantic about them returning or getting both back. Sleepless night and then the wife got up at 530 and went to the road behind us with a food bowl and called their names and shook the bowl for around an hr. I was just awakening when she got back, hearing her scream for me to get up. "Charlie's back! But I need your help as she is covered in thorns!" I said to myself, well at least one is here and went into the living room finding a pretty miserable looking dog with a face full of porcupine quills. Emmy by this time had made it to the carport door and looked even worse. A quick load up into the truck and off the vet to get them taken care of. A few hrs and a little over a grand later, they are all (plus the other 3 mutts we have) taking a nap with their mom (wife) in bed. More than Happy to have them back. Charley Emmy
  15. He's as big a twat as his overrated girlfriend.
  16. Same here, though I'm happy where I am now and I will also be in the air during my alotted time slot on Friday. I know that things move a bit during the process but there are slim pickings with available seats.
  17. Such progress now that every time I see updated pics, I cant help but think of....👇
  18. I went with the pouch/mitten covers this time around as those have come off in the past for me. These pouches have been more secure but maybe not as good as those plastic covers. I had to go out this morning and thaw out (hair dryer) two of my faucets ( even though I had dripped both but they are exposed on N side of house). I think I'll go with a combination of both covers (plastic and pouch) next time around. As far as pool pump stuff....with Snowpocolypse '21 and then Icemageddon '23 (both times losing power for long stretches) I tried to be a little more proactive and build an insulated shed around my pool pump so I wouldn't have to worry quite as much about it this year. First test happening now, and while it isn't quite perfect ( I forgot to put a thermometer inside as of yet) but with the pump running and a small ceramic heater in there now, it's nice and toasty. When the weather warms up a bit, I'll start the same for my well pump that sits just down the outside wall from it.
  19. S Small space heaters work great or you can also leave your cabinet doors open to the let the warm air of the house in.
  20. There's the secret....gotta get tackled to get a holding call.
  21. Zone D burned again.....Furk
