The changes needed to balance the budget are really obvious: cut military spending significantly, increase corporate taxes significantly, raise the capital gain tax a moderate amount (something like from 15% to 20%), and eliminate the estate tax exemption.
The reason that will never happen is equally obvious: everyone in Congress has one thing in common -- they are wealthy investors. Even "rags to riches" AOC immediately started earning $170k per year, plus whatever she makes from speaking engagements, book deals, etc. Hell, most of them are still partners in law practices. If anyone in either chamber filed for less than $250k last year, I'd be shocked.
Of course these people aren't going to raise the capital gains tax on their own investments, or volunteer to pay more taxes on the millions they inherit from their Yale secret society douchebag dads. And of course they're not going to vote to raise corporate taxes, or their campaign donations go bye bye. They don't really give a shit about the military spending, except that cutting that loses you an election, because people are brainwashed and stupid.
And they certainly don't give half a shit about the spiraling debt or the interest on it. This country exists for them to profit from for as long as possible, and if they sink it, they'll ride their golden parachute payouts to one of their other homes abroad.
