  1. He’s suddenly 4th in MLB in wRC+ at 162 (5th if you count Trout, who hasn’t played enough games to “qualify”). He was at 160 in his MVP year.
  2. Jesus it seems like a really long time ago that Bryant won a ROY and MVP in back to back seasons while leading the fucking Cubs to a WS title and seemed like he was in a clear HOF path.
  3. I assume you mean Thursday - today. He’s reached base in 40% of his plate appearances. I’ll go out on a limb and suggest that he’s fine.
  4. Well the odds of getting swept in the first round are extraordinarily low, mostly because they almost certainly won’t be playing in the first round.
  5. So as a team, the stros are 6/41 (.146) on balls in play the last 2 games. Baseball.
  6. So 15 straight scoreless innings. I guess they’re getting this shit out of their system?
  7. Nobody wanted you to start. (I’m just messing with you.)
  8. Counterpoint: they just beat the 55-93 Pittsburgh Pirates.
  9. I wouldn’t be shocked if he gets something like 6 years / $300 mm. The Yankees almost have to give him whatever he wants after this season. (And it will probably end up not being a great deal for them.)
  10. User name checks out?
  11. I hate everything about Baylor.
  12. Agreed. I thought Judge was dumb for not signing it at the time. There was no reason to expect that he’d produce at this level, so I don’t really blame them for not signing him in April - it was a reasonable offer based on his likely production. But he’s performed at an unlikely level and now the calculus has changed, and they’ll end up paying more. Probably a lot more.
  13. Maybe. Seems to me that the Yankees pretty much have to give him whatever he wants now, right? Are they really going to let their marquee player, who is having an historic season and has nearly single-handedly kept them from free-falling in the second half of the year, sign elsewhere? Cashman seems fucked here as far as negotiations go.
  14. *McGwire 1998; Willie (not Wilkie) McCovey. (Patagonia-clad old with no street cred struggles to type on new-fangled, hand-held computer phone.)
  15. Judge currently has a 213 OPS+. Here are the guys who finished above 200 since 1940 (not counting Soto in ‘20, because 60 games): Bonds (1992, 1993, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004) McGwire (1988) Bagwell and Frank Thomas (1994; also strike-shortened season) George Brett (1980) Wilkie McCovey (1969) Mantle (1956, 1961) Ted Williams (1941, 1942, 1946, 1947, 1954, 1957) That’s it. Pretty historic season for Judge.
  16. You wanna know how old I am? I don’t even get this joke. (Shit, I do have a Patagonia jacket; no idea what this now says about me, but it’s a nice burnt orange color and it should last the rest of my life, so I guess I don’t care.)
  17. Well that explains it; I’m old and try to avoid interacting with the youths.
  18. Right; if QE were playing, it would be Texas -16.
  19. Piss missile?
  20. You know, I’d normally assume that this is a joke and that nobody would actually believe this. But I’ve also been exposed to enough ag thoughts/ideas in my life to give me some pause.
