Try a little harder Fozzz, you are being a bit too obvious of a troll "just asking questions" on something you were "just asking questions" about only 3 hours ago. @wildcat09 already showed you there were 8 EUA's for different therapeutics prior to the vaccine being approved. You might notice the link he posted has "FDA COMBATING COVID-19 WITH THERAPEUTICS" in the title and is dated Dec 2020. Come up with some new troll material bro, even GRhorn knew to let a subject rest for a few days before pretending he'd never asked it.

Parsimony, but the vaccine thread isn't an appropriate place to discuss it. I would absolutely state it openly, as I have on here in the past and am doing now, but no one outside of here would give a shit.

Mine is the latter and facts aren't going to matter. I've predicted almost every major development to them well in advance and been right, over and over. I've beaten the disinformation with accurate information repeatedly, but as soon as the disinformation talking points go out, they are as aggressive about pushing disinformation back at me as any troll on this board. They still believe HCQ works, but masks don't work and claim they get a sinus infection if they wear a mask for more than 45 minutes consecutively. They are going to contract Covid at some point. They will then be demanding Z-pack, HCQ and Ivermectin. I hope they live, because they aren't going to be dissuaded from this path.

I have a family member that I haven't given up on. I know they aren't going to vaccinate, but I'm not going to quit trying. Even though I've told them everything I came across and have been right months in advance over and over, it's like none of that ever happened, because they listen to trolls like lmao and GRHorn on social media. This morning in a single text I got hit with the "natural immunity" and "no therapeutics". The follow up text was a false claim about Israeli data that runs counter to what I've been reading. When I asked for the source, no response. We have a serious disinformation problem in this country and this shit is getting Texans killed right now

Because he's a troll trying to derail productive conversation. Just like GRHorn, lmao is either getting paid to do this, or is a sociopath.

Anyone issuing a "medical opinion the virus was created in a lab" is a quack. First of all, it's an epidemiological question, not a medical one. Second of all, there is no way to tell conclusively if it was made in a lab, or by nature. It's not like there's a fucking instruction manual in the box. For the record, I've thought it was a Chinese lab leak the whole time, but you'll never be able to tell the difference conclusively between lab modified and natural. That doesn't leave any signals behind that couldn't also have a natural explanation.

First of all, the vaccines were designed to do exactly what they do. Stop severe disease and deaths. They are highly effective at that. Both are still well over 90% at stopping severe disease and considerably higher at stopping deaths. Johnson and Johnson does that successfully as well. When the vaccines were released, no one said shit about how many infections they would stop, because we didn't know. We hoped they would stop them, but that wasn't their design and the clinical trials did not look at it. We measured vaccine effectiveness in the low to mid-90s at stopping infections versus the wild type (wuhan) and Alpha strains. They are now less effective at stopping infections, but still very effective at severe disease and death. Viruses evolve and so will our vaccines.

Not a doctor disclaimer...I don't know and there's going to be a lot of me saying that in this post, so I'm going to lay out my thinking when I talked to a family member about it this morning. 1) Both are statistically equally effective against ICU visits and hospitalizations so far. Unless you are immune compromised, you still have protection, even if you contract Delta. 2) Moderna does seem to produce a stronger immune response and likely last longer, but we don't know how much longer yet until we get more real-world data. It could be as little as a month, could be a couple. Moderna claims 8 months against Delta based on lab work. Real world data, so far, is usually lower than lab results. When I first started posting about Pfizer likely waning in 4-6 months, I called 5-7 months for Moderna. I'll stick with that 7 and hope for much more. 3) There is data that shows Pfizer's booster is effective, while Moderna is still doing trials. I'd be shocked if Moderna's booster wasn't effective, or had any major un-reported side effects, but we technically don't know for sure. 4) I don't know if there is a risk mixing and matching them. I don't think so, but I don't know. Many other countries mixed and matched vaccines without any problems that I've seen. Most of the studies I saw had higher efficacy for the mixed regime, than 2 doses of the same manufacturer. I'm not aware of any studies that mixed Moderna and Pfizer, but some of the countries did. 5) I also am not sure if the size of the Moderna dose would be a problem. I don't think so, but I don't know. I'm expecting the side effects to be roughly the same as dose 2, but I really don't know. I think the dose being 3X the size of Pfizer is one of the reasons Moderna triggers a stronger immune response. Maybe one of the docs can chime in on that? All that said, I advised an immune compromised family member that asked for advice to try for Moderna. It's what I would be asking for if I needed a booster. My reasoning was they need the stronger immune response and longer protection time, because they have several underlying conditions that make them extremely vulnerable. I have some concern about the size of the third dose for them, but I'm pretty sure that's me being paranoid, given they have an auto-immune disorder. They are exposed to kids under 12 attending an unmasked school on a daily basis as well, so they face significant risk of exposure. Sorry for the long-ass answer to what I wish was a simple question.

Another variable to consider is that Pfizer vaccinations started considerably earlier than Moderna on average, so there are more people walking around 5-6 months post-Pfizer vaccination than post-Moderna. The Mayo didn't look at vaccination date, so we can't tell how big of an effect that had.

I wouldn't cancel it just yet for sure. When is the appointment @MC Fresh Breath?

Not a doctor disclaimer added, but I would expect you likely have pretty good protection. The J&J data out of South Africa was decent against Alpha and Beta. The booster data I've seen for the mRNA vaccines shows a substantial immune response against Delta. I haven't seen any data on boosters with J&J, but will keep my eyes peeled and post if I do. Two things to think about. 1) There may be a substantial increased immune response if you delay the second shot. There's evidence emerging that this is the case for mRNA. It may, or may not apply here. 2) You may not need one for 6-8 months and getting the second one now may limit when you can take the next booster. I'm not sure what I'd do personally, if I was in your shoes, but I would likely wait until a little more data comes in depending on my viral exposure. If you are healthy with no co-morbidities and reasonably confident you can keep from getting infected for a few weeks, I'd wait and see if some more consensus emerges.
-
Agreed. Masks, Fomites, Aerosol spread, the CDC been months to a year+ behind emerging data. It's been very frustrating. I'd really like to see Pfizer crank up a trial teasing out how much unique impact delayed doses and larger doses each add. I would expect they each contribute. This is also a bit of a catch-22 for Pfizer if increased dosing interval adds additional immune response and that holds for a third shot, which it may not. If it does, Pfizer folks are likely going to need boosters sooner than Moderna.

Edit to my previous post at the bottom, they said their results are consistent with previous findings that Pfizer is less effective against Delta than Alpha. They weren't looking at that in this study.

Cross-posted from DT Interesting article in pre-print (not yet peer reviewed) from the Mayo Clinic comparing Pfizer and Moderna and how they fare over time, including against Delta. It's not peer reviewed yet, but it's also the Mayo Clinic, so I've got a reasonable level of confidence in it. It's important information that's been asked for a lot on these threads, so I'm going to break it down. Remember though, there is a chance the study won't get published, or will be published with revisions. This post is going to be a lot of words, but there's a lot to unpack here. Even the TL:DR is long. TL:DR Both mRNA vaccines are still highly effective against ICU visits and deaths at 6 months. There were no recorded deaths in this group for either vaccine in this study. Pfizer declined hard in July against infections and less against hospitalizations, but continues to prevent ICU visits and deaths at the same rate as Moderna. Pfizer is less effective against Delta than Alpha. As of July, Moderna confers a 50% risk reduction for overall infection over Pfizer. In Florida, it's a 60% reduction. There is no statistical difference in ICU visits and no deaths for either vaccine. Risks are still low overall for fully vaccinated people of either vaccine. The number of breakthroughs is still very low at 326 total so far. The study ran until July 29, so it does include Delta taking over. Patients from Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Not a great cross-section of America, but what we have for now. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.06.21261707v2 Breakthroughs were rare, with twice as many occurring in the Pfizer cohort. They noticed the vaccine effectiveness was declining in April 2021 from Moderna-93% and Pfizer-86% effective to 86% and 76% respectively. So they started collecting data comparing the vaccines against one another in Feb 2021. July arrived and so did Delta. They noticed a much bigger decline, especially for Pfizer, correlated with Delta's arrival in force. Correlation doesn't necessarily imply causation and they can't yet say if the increased infections are due to Delta evading the vaccine, or declining immunity, though they do show that Pfizer is more effective against Alpha than it is against Delta. July 2021 effectiveness against infection July comparison They speculate the same reasons for Moderna being more effective that have been speculated by myself and others on here (larger doses and longer dosing interval), but also note the lipids used to coat the spike protein are different. Unfortunately, they didn't analyze date of vaccination, so it's not clear if it's waning immunity, or Delta, or something else. I think it's likely it's both, but that's my own opinion. They do find that Pfizer is less effective at preventing symptomatic infection against Delta, than it was against Alpha, though still highly effective.

Winning would have been sending in US special forces at Tora Bora and bringing out bin Laden, then getting the fuck out. Rumsfeld and Cheney wanted to keep their powder dry for Iraq and let the Northern Alliance handle it. Failing that, we should have leveled the area and caved-in the cave system he was in. Stupid men made a stupid choice almost 20 years ago and we're all still paying for it now.

It's fucking disgusting. The NCAA doesn't care about players gang raping co-eds. They don't care about coaches raping little boys. They don't care when the cover-up reaches high up into the administration. They should be looking for every excuse to punish Baylor and Penn State, not fucking enabling them. Both programs should have been kicked out of their conferences and the NCAA. The only thing the NCAA cares about is $$$ and it's impossible to pretend any different anymore. Time for them to go.

Sark is no Greg Davis. He moves his best playmakers around and gets them the ball moving and in space. He'll throw screens, but they are well designed, well executed and they work. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/steve-sarkisian-describes-his-offensive-evolution-and-rpo-based-attack/ar-BB1cAOI4 -

I didn't say his QB doesn't ever run, but it's not what he's looking for. -

Sark is a BYU guy at heart. He wants his QB to move in the pocket, keep his eyes downfield and make plays with his arm. -

Agree, Herman's mind games also fucked with morale. Sark won't fuck with their heads, constantly belittle them, or feed them runny eggs and burnt toast. That contrast is going to be huge and fresh on their minds. The team is going to want to run through a wall for Sark. -
The missing perspective is that we should be listening to the doctors and scientists. We have fundamentally failed in our response as a country, because a large percentage of us decided to embrace superstition and pseudoscience instead.
