  1. Brauny on Brandon Baker that the “Sips are reportedly paying him $750k a year“ Lmao
  2. He’d be a great hire for Capital Metro.
  3. The Sprite I drank at Paul Martin’s restaurant saved the day.
  4. About 20 years ago on my back patio…..in the shade….
  5. I don’t have to turn on the hot water to take a shower these days. The “cold” tap is refreshing just by itself.
  6. Lotta pussies here. We drove down to the Domain to meet friends for Happy Hour at 4pm this afternoon. It was pretty warm walking the two blocks to the restaurant, but we never broke a sweat. Leaving at 5:15, the temp was 108, but when we got into the car inside the shade of the parking garage it was only 106.
  7. That ‘56 Chevy is my Grail car. ❤️
  8. Hah…. this little oil painting hangs above the toilet in our guest bathroom. It is a reminder that my family is only two generations removed from that “lifestyle “.
  9. SS COLAS don’t mean shit when the increases in Medicare deductions from your monthly annuity eat most of it up.
  10. We had an “understanding”, but then I met the future Mrs.Brat.
  11. No, that gal got smart and married a psychiatrist.
  12. I did that once at Walsh Landing on Lake Austin 60 years ago. Launched my 15’ Glasspar runabout, left my gf holding the line at the dock while I parked my car & trailer up in the lot. When walking back down the driveway, I noticed the boat was low in the stern and gf had a bewildered look on her face. Of course I had forgotten to insert the drain plug. We bailed enough out so it could start and get underway slowly, then fast enough to pull the plug for it all to drain out at speed. Near thing, but we still had a fun time out skiing. [Surly rules - pic of gf]
  13. I started taking my SS at 62 in 2007 ($1,900/month) My current monthly annuity is $2,320. Those 1,900 dollars from 2007 would be the equivalent to $2,878 in today’s dollars. It appears the Social Security COLAS ain’t keeping up with inflation.
  14. Yeah, their campus is a regular Fort Knox over there.
  15. National Guard armories allover the country have been targets for thieves since I was a kid.
  16. At the end of October, 1950 when my family was stationed at Fort Brooke in San Juan, a group of Puerto Rican nationalists attempted a violent uprising to declare independence for the island. That day, we Army dependent kids in school at the Navy Air Station on the other side of San Juan Bay were bused back to the post under armed guard - Jeeps with mounted machine guns in front and back of our two bus “convoy”. Even our driver, a corporal, had a 1911 .45 sidearm. The MPs at the main post gate had Garands. We were told to remain in our quarters with our moms until further notice. Three blocks from the rear post gate (which was 2 blocks from our quarters), there was a big shootout at La Fortaleza when a group of nationalists tried to storm the governor’s mansion to assassinate him. They failed, being shot up by the governor’s security & National Guardsmen. Pretty noisy, with dozens of shots being fired. Our rear post gate was heavily guarded by US Army MPs with a machine gun and the usual Garands. That night my Dad, with a 1911 .45, was on duty at the post HQ near the main gate - he got tear-gassed when the wind changed as some National Guardsmen were attempting to breach a nearby building where some rebels were holed up. Incidentally, the next day (November 1st) in Washington DC, two Nationalist agents tried to assassinate President Truman who was staying at the Blair House across the street from the White House (the latter being under renovation). One of the WH police agents on duty out front was killed, as was one of the two wouldbe assassins.
