  1. Two of my great nephews are firefighters (Austin & Round Rock). About 10 years ago the Austin nephew spent a scary time late one night during a flashflood just above Barton Springs Pool. He and his colleague spent a harrowing time at the end oftheir fully extended 100’ over the creek with grappling hooks fishing the body of a drowned tuber caught in the bypass drain intake. His brother has a lucrative side business designing commercial fire suppression systems. He & his team spent a lot of time doing water rescue in Houston after hurricanes. (has a CE degree from UT and a Masters from an East Coast university).
  2. Just like the Collie Station rollercoaster.
  3. And expensive to manufacture. That’s why the Remington Model 51 was dropped before WW2. This one was carried frequently by Mrs. Brat’s grandfather, a prominent builder in Taylor, from the 1920s until the early 1950s . High quality little .380 that shoots very well.
  4. Ah, I missed that welcome back party - was still in Dallas recovering after the weekend shenanigans at the Adolphus Hotel on Commerce. Those were some fun years as a student.
  5. In 1969, my brother couldn’t find a gas station that would let him fill up his VW Bug so he could leave that Deliverance state. In the late 1970s when his daughter was in the LH Band, their buses were pelted with rocks & bottles as they were leaving town after the Texas victory. Those goobers can make the bucknuts look like Emily Post.
  6. Had to be after the 1969 team beat Arky in Fayettenam. Mrs. Brat & I were probablythe only sober ones in that mob of 10,000 drunks thatswarmed all over old Mueller Airport to the bewilderment of the travelers in the waiting room. Drunks filled the flight concourse and were on its roof, then swarmed out on the parking apron to surround the team plane when it arrived. A few drunks supposedly had to be chased off the runway so the plane could land. It was an epic evening to say the least.
  7. Nah, all 400,000 will be on the front lines in Ukraine in two weeks.
  8. Your avatar is a sufficient response.
  9. In their case it means fewer Mudbug Masters grads.
  10. Sark & the Horns need to pound his arrogant ass in the CCG.

    Getting old sucks

Back home this afternoon - just hoping they got the right meds this time. Never watched any of the election campaign coverage, nor election night drama - the old ticker doesn’t tolerate any of that clownshow stuff. But Wednesday I started watching the cable talking heads and apparently all the angst & gloating proved to be too much. /cr Oh well, the sawbones palace made a few thousand more and my cardiologist probably paid off his Porsche.

  16. Bought my JM Marlin .30-30 new in 1968. $80, IIRC.
  17. Yes, the original west & east side concrete stands are still a part of the current lower stadium. Mrs. Brat’s aunt was a student and attended the dedication game in 1924 in this photo:
