  1. I knew Oliver Smoot. We both attended Taipei American School in Taiwan during the late 1950s. He was a senior while I was a freshman. After he graduated he went back stateside to attend MIT. Never heard anything about him until my brother met up with him at a TAS reunion 30 years ago. Then 20 years ago after I started messing around on the Internet, saw the MIT story about the Smoot “measurement” and it’s funny origin. This was our original campus in downtown Taipei then (the school moved to a large suburban campus in the 1960s):
  2. Once a culero always a culero, verdad?
  3. I used to park by the Stadium at San Jacinto & 21st most of the time for class. Sometimes close to Littlefield Fountain if I had a class in the 6 Pack. (Early ‘60s)
  4. Speaking of hard hitting news, the AAS actually shed a little bit of light on the City Council’s accounting chicanery for once…. http://www.statesman.com/news/politics/elections/local/article/austin-proposition-q-budget-accounting-21122290.php?utm_content=hed&sid=689778998283b1454f057a30&ss=A&st_rid=null&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=roundup&utm_campaign=stsm | mid-morning must-reads
  5. Am tempted to add a can to my 5.56 pistol next year if I’m still around. Just for the heck of it. Guess I’d have to do the trust thing. Would that allow it to be passed down to a family member?
  6. Looks like Rocky & his friends are gonna get rocked.
  7. Maybe someone should bribe the harness dude to give him a wedgie.
  8. Pretty much. My recently divorced granddaughter (no pics) has a dog, a cat, and a hamster in her 680 sq/ft one bedroom condo.
  9. So do the drug dealers and hookers that have infested what used to be a nice area 50 years ago.
  10. We can counter that by one of the Silver Spurs walking over to Uga and showing him a photo of Bevo.
  11. Somebody should tell the council members what they can do with those sticks.
  12. I didn’t know him too well and never talked about it with him. He was one of several faculty & staff members who were recognized for their military service in a showcase display celebrating Veteran’s Day. One of the custodians had his Bronze Star on display.
  13. A fellow faculty member at Porter Jr. High in South Austin where I worked in 1969 was a tail gunner in one of those B-24s on that raid.
  14. Austinites can just do what Claytie Williams suggested….. Just lay back and enjoy it.
  15. Whaddya mean, “ask”? They’ll just annex it at their leisure.
  16. Gotta hand it to him though.
  17. Don’t worry, the SEC refs will rectify that by reversing the numbers when they play in Austin in 3 weeks.
  18. If the league office treats those calls like the Big12 did, then we’ll know their level of integrity is on a par with those cucks.
  19. Of course it was…..during the Roosevelt administration.
