    Getting old sucks

So? All of my students the first year I was on the Giddings High School faculty now average about 73 years in age, if they’re not dead yet.
  4. Except the Dutch. Fuck them.
  5. That’s a big boat you’ve got there.
  6. Grizzly Attack Survivor Says Ordeal Was Most Violent Experience Of His Life The disabled veteran who was mauled by a grizzly on Sunday in Grand Teton National Park said he never let go of his bear spray during the attack. He said when the bear went in for the "kill shot" to his neck, she bit into the can. https://cowboystatedaily.com/2024/05/24/grizzly-attack-survivor-says-ordeal-was-most-violent-experience-of-his-life/
  7. We were on the USNS Edwin Patrick (pretty large ship) and were tossed around almost that bad when we were caught up in the “arm bands” of a Pacific typhoon in 1957. It was just for a few hours though.
  8. Has your daughter thought about the diplomatic service?
  9. Ruger has brough back the stainless folder - about $1,500. Meh, I ain’t a paratrooper.
  10. Even though I have bought a total of 4 AR carbines (1 S&W, 1 Colt, 2 PSA) in the past 10 years, I didn’t buy them for myself - but for gifting to immediate family members if they want them. Gifted the first two of them 2 years ago for Christmas. In addition, a couple of years ago I bought a PSA AR 10.5” pistol with the potential idea of using it for HD. Meh, probably won’t even take it out of the safe. Of course not being much of a shooter, I haven’t even fired it yet and will probably give it to a family member. The only one I have fired was the S&W Sport, and it was a lot of fun. If I were to buy another 5.56 carbine, it would be a standard Ruger Mini 14.
  11. They are sopping up the penis enhancement emails.
  12. I’ve only been there twice (1961, 1981) but will go back to see that “trophy” before shuffling off this mortal coil.
  13. My son keeps his ‘69 with its original ragtop in the garage…
  14. Gifted mine 10 years ago to one of my sons..
  15. That tragedy was one of the saddest things ever posted on HF.
  16. Funny, because back in the day the AR was the expensive platform and the Mini half the price. Then shooters realized the AR could shoot rings around the Mini. But the Mini 14 is still a good utilitarian gun.
  17. I may have posted awhile ago that one time my 1960 MGA floorboard (under my drivers seat) caught on fire. Pulled over on the side of 290 in NE Austin with smoke billowing out from under my seat. Popped the seat bottom out and saw a hole the size of my fist with the edges glowing like red hot charcoal…..and getting bigger. Long story short - since in 1965 it was before the days when everyone carried a water bottle in their car, I wound up having to piss on the hole to put it out. Steaming pee has a quite pungent odor, to say the least. Apparently a couple days before when I had run over a big chunk of a tire on 183 north of Luling, the exhaust pipe had been jammed up against the underside of the wooden floorboard. Dunno why it didn’t catch fire sooner than it did. Anyway, the next day I used one of my Mom’s stove top burner covers (sheet metal with asbestos liner) to mount between the pipe and the floorboard. Drilled four holes and used household nuts, bolts & washers to secure it. Worked just fine until I sold the car a year later to an airman out at Bergstrom AFB for $600 cash. Never quite got all the old piss smell out of it. My car looked just like this one except for the badge bar between the bumper overriders. And mine had red leather seats. (forgive me if I posted all this here before)
  18. Nothing happened to the Austin cop who arrested Antonio Beuhler in 2012, filed a false report and got away with it even after a very clear & unobstructed view of that incident showed he did nothing wrong.
  19. It is going to be a beautiful new car, and I can hardly wait to see its finished photos. Is that an original or reproduction ‘62 chrome grill? However, I sure hope it isn’t going to have a Lucas Electrics wiring harness, two six volt batteries, and non-fireproof floorboards. Guess you know what I am talking about. 😁
  20. Yep, there still were living veterans of that war when aggy claimed their dubious national title.
  21. IIRC, Clinton signed that failed “assault weapons” ban - after Bush1 set the stage for it.
