  1. Cute dawg though! My granddaughter was devastated when her 12 year old “baby” Toby finally had to be put down a couple of months ago after more than a year of battling with a cancer. Last week she & her husband adopted this rescue from Mexico - “Sophia”, who is 8 months old and bears a striking resemblance to the late Toby. Sophia has been a big part of helping granddaughter’s recovery from surgery several days ago.
  2. Poor little orphan waifs. Wherever will they go?
  3. You can argue your empty shade all you like, I don’t care. I’m talking about the ones who don’t want help and are a scourge to the ordinary people who want to go about their business without being molested or subjected to the filth that they generate. I have read plenty from downtowners who have described how Republic Square at times is not a place they’d care to visit because of the street bums. Get them off the streets and into a facility for treatment. But that is for another thread. Given the state of lack of control by the current & recent city “leadership, spending $130 million will attract more of the same and will cut back access to the central core and Capitol area for all Texans. That is pure folly IMO. New York City had a brilliant idea by converting a defunct elevated railroad line snaking through the city into a beautiful walking promenade & park. You are probably aware of the now famous High Line project. While Austin obviously doesn’t have ant defunct elevated rail lines, similar structures could be built from scratch for the pedestrian/parkways - have one a block or two west of Congress running north & south and another a block or two east of Congress with both stretching from Caesar Chavez up past the Capitol complex towards UT.
  4. Yes I am aware and have been since a small segment was closed by Clinton in 1995. Two blocks in front of the White House originally set aside to prevent terrorist truck bombs from blowing up the White House isn’t the same as 10+ blocks of Congress Avenue from Caesar Chavez up to 11th being closed to traffic so trendy folks can strut around like theyre on Rodeo Drive. And are you aware that 12 blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue are still open thoroughfare for vehicles past DuPont Circle to the northwest?
  5. Bear spray should be more practical to use against a home intruder.
  6. Like a rolling water balloon, or so they say.
  7. Fuck your snotty attitude…..just because it hasn’t happened to your royal ass. Maybe some drugged out bum needs to beat your butt so you can see what a lot of the little people have to put up with.
  8. No it isn’t. My son, who lives in South Austin and is all over the central core frequentl for work and entertainment, has had multiple run-ins with some of the worst trash, and once had to brandish a (legal) firearm to keep a rather large aggressor from attacking him. Not to mention multiple trespassers on family property where the police were summoned and made arrests. That is just in recent years but I guess that is no concern for the downtown highrise elite and the City Council nabobs.
  9. Oh, we used to frequent downtown when it wasn’t overrun with the detritus of society. Go right ahead and turn it into Seattle, LA, San Fran, etc., I’m sure the tourists will be impressed with the street smells of urine & shit as they step around the comatose folks in the new walking parks. It’ll be a great look for the Capital City of Texas. Then maybe Washington DC will copycat them all and close down Pennsylvania Avenue.
  10. Well, this project would at least give the street bums a more comfortable spot to shit & pass out than is currently provided by the CoA.
  11. I have no clue. From what I could see, that company had about 8 or 10 of those Eurocopters in operation. My cousin flew a Huey gunship in Vietnam, and Mrs. Brat’s old boyfriend flew a Hughes Loach.
  12. No I don’t and was unaware of such an application of those watches.
  13. Only one helicopter ride for us - 20 years ago we took the tourist ride up & down the Las Vegas Strip at night. The nighttime views were spectacular. When we took of from McCarran, our Eurocopter tilted over about 45 degrees while I was sitting (actually leaning on) next to the plexiglass door looking straight down a couple hundred feet as we turned up over the MGM Grand to head north. I didn’t take one picture of the 15-20 minutes while we were airborne. smh Similar to this video….
  14. But she didn’t go to UT.
  15. I detest the “lane assist” or whatever it is called on my little 2024 Civic turbo. Can’t stand the way it grabs at the steering wheel if I get near the edges of the lane while driving in little or no traffic. Is there a way to turn it off so I can go ahead and run off the road as God intended?
  16. Jayne had bigger titties.
  17. None of them will ever surpass Jayne…..
  18. Maybe the Feds who are monitoring the gun owners thread here on Surly heard something. 😀
  19. Yep, that entire game was a blatant gang rape by the refs as a retirement gift for Teaff. He should’ve been embarrassed by the obvious corruption.
  20. Early in the evening of July 3rd I started having a severe a-fib attack and was in bad enough shape to start discussing with Mrs. Brat about calling 911. A few minutes later before she even picked up her phone, a Wilco deputy knocked on our front door to ask if someone was having a medical emergency. He did say our address was on record of having prior medical emergency calls. Less than 5 minutes later the Sam Bass FD showed up followed closely by the EMS. We did not call any of those folks at all. We do not have an Alexis, nor have we ever used Siri. My pacemaker has a Bluetooth, but the monitor was 30’ away in our bedroom. Obviously, one of our electronic gadgets is eavesdropping and blabbing to somebody or some computer elsewhere without our knowledge.
  21. Pardon the hijack, but this Sig P365X Texas Ranger is only a few months old. Carry on….
