  1. I'm considering getting a rack with drain pad and spout to deal with this. Our sink has the same setup as yours and it's a PITA to clean pots and pans when SWMBO has a bunch of dishes sitting in the rack in the big part of the sink. Would much rather use the big bowl to do a proper wash then have to do it in the little one (splashes everywhere and can't submerge big stuff).
  2. Username does not check out.
  3. She looks like the chick in the “high” thread 2 hours after eating a gummy.
  4. Can I stay up here on the bed please?
  5. Then all we need is legalized weed. I won't be holding my breath.
  6. Agreed. There’s no reason for that sort of thing. Even here on Surly.
  7. I certainly do not ascribe to "the argument that the entire population of Gaza can be held responsible for Hamas’s actions."
  8. There's a world of difference between your posts and Ana's in this thread. I think yours are genuine and earnest, despite our differences in opinion.
  9. In March of 2023 (in the more recent poll I posted), 61 percent of Gazans would support the Hamas candidate for president over Abbas. That's two years removed from the events of 2021 and only a few months ago. I do not support mass killings of civilians of any nationality, FWIW. And, Hamas support within Gaza is more than just "a problem." it could well be THE problem.
  10. The article does a pretty good job of explaining it. Perhaps you might read it instead of knee-jerking to "Israel bad, Palestinians good" Oh, and here's another more recent article on another poll reflecting considerable Hamas support among Palestinians: https://pcpsr.org/en/node/938
  11. And yet, by polling numbers, in 2021, "53% of Palestinians believe Hamas is “most deserving of representing and leading the Palestinian people,” while only 14% prefer Mahmoud Abbas’ secular Fatah party." https://apnews.com/article/hamas-middle-east-science-32095d8e1323fc1cad819c34da08fd87 But keep fucking that chicken.
  12. Short films can qualify for a nomination by either receiving a theatrical release or a qualifying award at a competitive film festival (such as the two awards Kayla won at Sundance and SXSW). Once qualified, then the films get sent to Academy members who vote to advance to the 15 film shortlist stage. So currently the film is in this stage, where it's been sent to Academy members to be voted on whether to advance to short list. The announcement of the short list is usually right before Christmas, and from that list the nominees are chosen and announced in late January. So while the window for votes is closing, there is still an opportunity to reach Academy members to get them to watch it and hopefully vote for it to advance. However, the cost to promote a film to get the nomination is significant, and they've elected to forego a paid PR campaign and instead focus on developing the short into a feature (the short is a segment of a feature screenplay she has written). Here's an article that does a very good job of explaining the whole process. https://shortfilmoracle.com/how-to-get-a-short-film-nominated-for-an-oscar/#:~:text=Since 1983%2C Academy rules have,Short Film Qualifying Festival List.
  13. UT RTF alums (close friends of my kids) have a short movie that premiered this year at Sundance, winning the Grand Jury Award, as well as a Special Jury Award at SXSW. These awards qualified the film for an Academy Award nomination. They're currently undertaking grassroots efforts to gain publicity and attention among Academy members. https://thedailytexan.com/2023/01/16/ut-alums-short-film-when-you-left-me-on-that-boulevard-to-appear-at-sundance-film-festival/ https://thedailytexan.com/2023/03/09/sxsw-texas-shorts-showcase-features-local-filmmakers/ The film is currently available for free viewing on Vimeo (link below). If you know anyone associated with an Academy member please consider giving them a heads up and encouraging them to watch and consider for nomination.
  14. 17 more hostages released today.
  15. I was told they were all children taken as hostages in the middle of the night.
  16. And Chynna?
  17. I do not celebrate physical or sexual violence on persons in custody.
  18. Whatever bad acts the Israelis may have done in the West Bank are in no way a justification for Hamas holding children hostage in Gaza. Just stop.
  19. Justifying hostage taking should also be condemned. Which you just did.
