    What’s a perjury trap?

A perjury trap is when your wife finds your burner phone and secret credit card filled with one day hotel room charges and asks you to explain.  She has now set a perjury trap and deserves to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We live in a time that a GOP candidate for wearing swastikas and peeing in ones own mouth does not in anyway seem like a disqualify event.  In fact I would expect such a candidate to easily win in a large number of red districts in this country.

Latest MAGA talking points from my MIL's Facebook; it's back to being the regular flu, because hospitals and doctors are reporting everything as a Covid related death, because they (hospitals and doctors) get paid more for a Covid death than a "regular" death.

    What the fuck.

This is true.  I just got an email from my hospital admin that I am getting a fat Covid Death Bonus this quarter.  Fantastic news!

Oh the irony. I am all for Trump getting back out and interacting with his supporters.

I can’t believe the people of Wisconsin came thru.

everyone who voted blue deserves a medal. Some of those people got hailed on for 3 hours to do it.

This right here.  Fuck these GOP ghouls in the ass for not delaying the vote during the height of a pandemic.  I’m in a blue state now, but I will walk through a fucking mine field to vote against Trump in November.

Read an odd report today from Bain Consulting (don’t have a copy to share). The report indicated a range of possible future scenarios, and the MOST likely scenario was that the government would deploy a
lightly tested vaccine and/or treatment broadly by May. Pretty shocking if true.

I could see that. They're going to be desperate by then. That doesn't mean it'll be effective or without really bad side effects though. Big gamble.

As long as the side effects are minor then I don't have a problem with that.   Our understanding of vaccines is pretty good now, and they are not using live virus, just surface proteins or snippets of viral RNA,  so making a non-fatal vaccine should not be that difficult.  Now whether it works or not is another story, but I know that no vaccine doesn't work.   At least make it available to medical personnel.  They understand the risk/benefits and need it now.  If they wait 18-24 months, the vaccine will be useless.

Right - given that percentages remain fairly constant for a country re observable hospitalizations/complications and deaths, you can extrapolate to those curves that would otherwise be verified by mass testing.  We're on the steep exponential upslope of the curve right now.  No brakes, no seatbelts.

Interesting.  I definitely am not saying we have reached or are near reaching critical mass immunity , just that we might get there faster then anticipated.   I am no expert in statistics, but wouldn't a model composed of a large percentage of asymptomatic carriers still result in a steep upslope initially until critical mass is approached?   I would in fact expect an even steep initial slope in this model since the virus is spreading even faster then expected.   If the slope is completely stable, that means that the news we are hearing of large numbers of mild/asymptomatic cases is false....  yikes.

The problem is we are mostly testing those with fevers.  I’m betting there’s huge swathes of younger less susceptible people getting this and it passing with no fever.  I mean less susceptible to a serious bout of illness with COVID.   Hopefully we will know more w antibody testing.

I think this raises  an interesting point.  IF there are huge numbers of people getting infected with no or very mild symptoms, and IF those patients are gaining some form of immunity during their asymptomatic course, then perhaps we can reach critical mass herd immunity faster then is currently projected.   Lots of IF's and unknowns but a potential sliver of silver lining.
