They do a great job raising the money for the talent. So I won’t fault them on that. Their wallets are open there. But letting them have way too much power to pick the HC is where I get frustrated bc it is why we don’t have consistency. Good programs don’t hire and fire routinely. They just don’t. They hire the right guy and when that guy either retires or decides to move on they have a good plan set up for a replacement. We don’t do that shit, Mack fucked it up by not retiring bc the heir apparent would have been Muschamp. Would he have been a good HC or still been here? I cannot answer that. But Mack fucked it up. So we went swinging in another direction. And it was a domino effect. Strong was not given all the support nor as much time even if I totally believe he wasn’t the guy. So the Houston BmDs swung their dicks and went for Herman the hottest name out there at the time with connections to big time Ohio state. His off the field shit and behavior fucked his shit up so we go swinging again and got Sark. But we are always on our heels and good programs are not. OU got screwed by low character Lincoln Riley and rebounded with Venables but they had a good 20 year plus run nearly of consistency of coaching. That’s why we fail.
IMO. The 90’s were the same tale. Fire Akers. Poach McWiliams who is a good dude but wasn’t the dude. Go for an asshole Mackovic. Who we canned and then we finally get consistency with Mack but he won’t leave when he said he would, it created a vacuum for the BMDs to swing their power and dicks bc they wanted Saban. And Mack fucked that up. So we got new AD who hire Shaka and Strong. And set us up for another rollercoaster 🎢
