  1. This album is fantastic. Granted, I’ve loved everything Katie’s touched in the past 5 years, and I’m turning into a Jake fanboy to boot.
  2. She didn’t get the memo that we raise hogs
  3. I love that the Pomeranian was named "Brutus". It's a fucking show dog.
  4. I don't believe in any of that kind of stuff, but a weird thing happened to my brother that I've had a hard time explaining. When I was 5 and he was 3, my dad and uncle bought a farm with a building site, barns, and relatively new (compared to the place we were living) prefab ranch house. We moved into the house shortly thereafter. It had been owned by an old bachelor who had died a couple years prior and it took his nieces and nephews time to sort it all out. So this dude actually died before my brother was born. Within a few months, my brother started telling my mom that he would talk to the ghost of Otto Bartz (that was the guy's name) at night when he couldn't sleep. My mom asked my brother asked who Otto Bartz was and my brother said "well he used to live here" (a detail my brother would not have been aware of at the time) and then he went on to perfectly describe the guy, right down to the psuedo uniform he was always seen wearing. Again, my brother had never actually seen this man alive and it wasn't like we had his picture hanging up. My guess is somehow, somewhere, his likeness was pointed out to my brother unbeknownst to my folks but it's always seemed weird to me.
  5. It's kind of it's own tier. It's a big public university with a much larger and more passionate fanbase than any private school outside of Notre Dame or USC, but it's in an isolated place and doesn't have the statewide presence of the other two. I've always assumed they were a pretty clear #3 in Texas. It always seemed to me that it was UT (gap) Aggy (gap) Tech (big gap) everyone else.
  6. We got Des Moines tickets today. Going with 3 real close buddies and their wives. Gonna be a blast
  7. Yeah, I can’t imagine he’d casually just start drinking again on film. Sobriety is a HUGE part of his brand, and he’s an actual alcoholic.
  8. Leftovers, sure. I always season it up off the cob. Fresh sweet corn on the cob needs literally nothing, unless you’re eating inferior corn.
  9. Pickled eggs (turned green by the brine), pretzels, and pickled peppers
  10. And they literally just announced a show in Des Moines the next day. One of the couples planning on going lives in Des Moines, so I’d imagine we pivot that direction.
  11. Gonna see them with Dave Simmonet doing a Pheasant’s Forever benefit at a relatively intimate theatre in Minneapolis in February. They’ve never been afraid of the northern plains in winter (seen them in both Minneapolis and Lincoln in February over the years) and it’s just another reason I fucking love these guys. It’s almost like they know their audience gets real busy in Fall and Spring
  12. She thinks Michael Meyers is cuddly.
  13. I have a fake tooth from a tractor tire incident as a child. Our local dentist kept insisting that instead of having a permanent fake drilled into my jawbone, we keep trying a less invasive fake that was bonded to the back of the other teeth. After the third time it broke on regular food, and he tried to suggest the same procedure that failed a bunch of times, my old man told him to fuck off and we went and got a permanent installation that's had no issues 20+ years in. Dude just wanted to keep me coming through the door every 3 months.
  14. Very garlicky though
  15. You don’t need to be a blue blood to have billionaires in your alumni list.
  16. No. It was boiled fresh back in August and then frozen
  17. Yes. The pork loin has a good rub on it. Everything else has a negative Scoville rating, but absolutely slams
  18. Sacred Heart (Meyer, IA) Fall supper delivered to the field.
  19. And awful college sports experiences. Like half empty stadiums with no tailgate scene? Boy, have you hit the jack pot with that group.
  20. Minneapolis/St Paul is fantastic on many fronts, but U of M is a shitty college sports experience. The stadium is pretty small, the campus is very urban, and the Gophers merely get a shrug from the locals.
  21. Waco? 100%. UH? 100%. KU and K-State? No. Both great college towns.
  22. It's a really nice classic college town. I don't know anything about Starkville, but when Texas was in the Big 12 it seemed like 90% of UT fans who came to games there (and especially the ones who posted about it here) really enjoyed it. Iowa's much wealthier than Mississippi (for now) and that difference alone matters.
  23. The way OSU fans have handled this is a reminder how much I enjoy their fanbase, and how they're (along with KSU) basically the same exact people we are. I can tolerate whatever stupid future of this sport dumps on our heads if trips to Stillwater and Manhattan remain part of the equation, and it sure looks like our 3 universities are going to end up in the same basket for eternity for better or worse.
  24. Is it just me, or does wrestling Pete look like he's in drag with his orange boots?
