Which is the real Justin Blackmon
There's no way in hell the guy in that mug shot is Justin Blackmon, former OSU WR.

2025 NHL Playoffs Thread - Let the madness begin!
I'm rooting for Winnipeg and Minnesota. I have a lot of family in/from Manitoba, and they just fucking bleed for that team. But they'll shit the bed cause that's what they do in the playoffs. Lots of friends are Wild fans. I came of age during that period where the was no team in Minnesota, so I became a default Chicago fan. I kinda tried to get into the Wild when they started, and they had that great run in 2003, but it just never stuck. I do generally like to see them do well, and usually root for Minneapolis based pro sports. The Wild just aren't as good as Vegas, and Minnesota pro sports choke on apple sauce. Of the actual contenders, I'd be cool with Ovi getting another Cup. I'd like to see Auston Matthews get one too, but the Leafs flaming out is never not funny.

UFL 2025 season
Must be good enough to keep it going. My guess is with it's cost structure it doesn't need much. I throw it on in the background if nothing else is on.

Trivial Things That Make You Surly
I don't hunt much, but I absolutely get it. Something about the process of obtaining your own food feels right to me. I don't get big game hunting at all. Killing an animal just to kill it is weird AF to me. Killing an animal to consume it is the circle of life.

Beer 2025: Merry Christmas Everyone, Including the Haters and Losers
Yuengling's not supposed to be viewed like a craft beer. It's a macro lager that's better than other macro lagers. That's it.

Best opening lyrics of all time
God, what a mess. On the ladder of success. Take one step and you miss the whole first rung. I guess what I'll miss the most will be the mornings. The squeak of the hardwood floor as you start out your day. I thought it better not to talk about the letter that you sent. It was no one else's business. It was barely even mine.

Turnpike Troubadours appreciation thread
Any thoughts on the album? I'm not getting sick of this at all, and feels it holds up to their best work. I liked Cat In The Rain a lot, but this is better. It might be better song-for-song than A Long Ways From Your Heart. "Be Here" and "What Was Advertised" feel like the most honest rehab/sobriety songs I've ever heard (with the latter being absolute classic Turnpike, sonically). "Leaving Town" absolutely hits me in the feels, and good lord, can you hear Simonett's writing on it. "On The Red River" and "Heaven Passing Through" are beautiful arrangements, with the same kind of incredibly detailed and specific lyrics that make Felker one of the best songwriters on the planet. "Ruby Ann" and "Nothing You Can Do" are both up tempo, rollicking numbers from other members of the band. RC and Nixie can both write some catchy tunes. A lot of people bag on Shooter's production, and I think it was somewhat warranted with how muted Nix's fiddle could be on Cat, but it really pops back in the mix here on Price of Admission. It's not as front and center as it was in the old days, but overall the sound is warm and rich to my ears. I'd imagine this is going to be my top album of 2025.

We balked. But not because of that. We’ll be planting next Sunday for sure. That’ll really chap the big guy’s ass.

This is excellent. It feels like a more weary, worn version of their self titled album. "Leaving Town", "What Was Advertised", and "On the Red River" are early favorites. Really though, I like every song so far. The people who didn't like "A Cat in the Rain" will likely be satisfied. "Leaving Town" is a co-write with Dave Simonett and holy shit you can hear his sense of melody in the verse.

College Hoops 2024-25
Creighton's a better job than Aggy. Omaha > College Station. No football to compete with for resources. Wealthy alumni that are invested in program. Averaging like 17-19K in a beautiful newish arena. Imagine Nebraska football fans with a ton of money and love of hoops.

I'm going to assume that the Ketch co-write has some monster fiddle lines for Nix in it. I also think it's cool to see Nix have some songs in here. I actually really liked his solo albums from a writing and arrangement perspective. He's not the best singer/frontman, but there are some gems in there - especially the second one.

Not an obvious influence, but it reminded me of Ben Kweller's early stuff too (which was definitely influenced by Dinosaur Jr)

This has a lot more new Felker material than Cat In The Rain. Hope Ruby Mae is as much of an ear worm as the last Edwards/Roark song.

Probably just a few songs. I saw them the week after Cat In the Rain dropped and they only played the advance singles

That’s the one. I like (don’t love) Bert, and get why some people can’t stand him, but he definitely has a way of making people comfortable and getting honesty from them.

He talked about her on a podcast interview this winter. It sounds pretty complicated. She bailed on the family when he was pretty young and had some serious mental health and drug problems. But he credits her for his artistic gifts, and loves her fiercely in spite of that.
