  1. Hang it in the fucking Louvre
  2. Are you team child abuse or team justifiable intervention? The line was frequently blurred in German Catholic families for a very long time. My grandpa got kicked by a horse when he was 8, and it shattered his hip. His parents dropped him off at the children’s hospital in Iowa City, which was a 4 hour drive to the southeast in those days. He was laid up there for 9 months. His parents never visited. About 4 months in, he wrote them a letter. He got a letter back from his grandparents (in German) that instructed him not to be so needy because his parents were busy on the farm and caring for his other 4 siblings. I come from very hard people. My dad’s generation made a lot of progress breaking that cycle. My generation is trying to finish the job.
  3. Catholic sexual repression is very real. Especially about masturbation. My grandma knocked my dad out with a rolling pin when he was in grade school because she thought he was jerking off at the dinner table. He claims he was just scratching. My grandma denies it ever happened but at least one of my uncles remembers.
  4. Best meat I’ve ever grilled was backstrap from a doe shot in Allamakee County, Iowa.
  5. Exactly. Just get out of the way and let them be themselves.
  6. You're definitely doing the right thing there, IMO. One of my best friends is pretty sure his daughter's gay, and I think he's probably right. He and his wife have 0 hang ups with it so I'm sure that she'll be pretty comfortable coming out if that's actually the case. She's also 12. His older brother is gay, and his parents did not handle it well (Baby Boomer Czech/Irish Catholics from northeast Iowa, so no shit, right?), so he's kind of a got a model for what not to do. Good luck and I hope you're daughter is comfortable in being her authentic self.
  7. I agree with that assessment completely. I guess if we're early in the season in '25 (which would be awesome because I could make it to Boulder) I would reduce my confidence.
  8. Ancient history my friend. We haven't played since Obama's first term. And it's nothing against the Buffs, just Prime. Who do you think would have won between ISU and Colorado last year?
  9. I don't know that there is either, I was just riffing. This isn't exactly settled science, but more what the terms conjure in my mind. Agree on the body count thing. I don't think I've ever taken anyone's virginity, and I'm kinda glad in hindsight.
  10. There are a lot of these guys around here. You see any lifetime bachelor over the age of 40 and I guarantee that they're a closeted gay man. Unless of course they've always had female companions and just been unwilling to marry them. I mean 0 feminine companionship when I say "bachelor".
  11. I just want this shit show to hang on for one more year so we get a chance to wax them.
  12. I absolutely would have died as a single man post college.
  13. First 3.5 years of college were my real "go" time. Met my wife right at the start of 2nd semester senior year and we've been together since then. I had a lot of fun in what was in retrospect a fairly short window. And thankfully that window (2003-2007) was prior to constant videos of everything.
  14. That guy legit had the best arm talent I've ever seen in Ames. $.10 brain, unfortunately. Fairly mobile too.
  15. IIRC, that was Herman. People were making a big deal about him coming back to Ames (he was OC here under Paul Rhoads). Our QB was stoned to the gills during the game. Campbell knew it. We had a 10 day lay off before heading to Norman as a 30 point underdog. Campbell benched the idiot starter, put the 3rd stringer in, and the rest is history.
  16. Remarkably similar story to me. I was mostly too daft in HS to realize that I had some opportunities while also being unwilling to put myself out there and get shot down, when I realized that I might. My ego couldn't handle it. I ended up losing my virginity to a very aggressive chick at a party the week before my 18th birthday, and that gave me the confidence I needed to succeed in college. At pussy I mean. Not school.
  17. This is describes my evolution from HS to college fairly well. I guess I'm distinguishing between the guys who wear their horniness on their sleeve and the ones who don't. I think internally nearly every teenage boy is a horn dog. Some of them advertise it more blatantly than others. Booger in Revenge of the Nerds was a horn dog. Donal Logue in the Tao of Steve was a pussy hound.
  18. A) it's a joke. I don't give a shit if my daughter is gay or straight. B) I do think women are less prone to get caught up in this really creepy, toxic, possessive "the world owes me human possessions" mindset
  19. I think you're on to something here. The horn dog is definitely a different species from the pussy hound. I knew a kid in HS who was the absolute definition of a horn dog. He was always trying to score porn, constantly talking about jerking off and how he wanted to screw pretty much every woman on the planet. He was just very publicly horny at pretty much all times. He never had a girlfriend in HS and I don't know if he really figured it out later in life either (haven't seen the kid in 20 years). A pussy hound generally has a lot more self control/regulation, and like you stated, are often extremely focused. Especially on getting pussy, which is imperative on essentially killing off your inner horn dog. There's nothing women find more off putting than that open horniness. If a horn dog can't get that under wraps, he ain't going to get any, and you're now hurtling towards incel status at warp speed.
  20. It was only worn once - a loss to Texas in Jack Trice on a Thursday, where it was paired with these awful charcoal grey alts we were using. The uniform I posted up thread is light years better than this shit. The grey alts only came close to working one time, and that was when we paired them with white jerseys and helmets in Stillwater the year before.
  21. If this trend continues, I might just start hoping my daughter is a lesbian.
  22. Well, our marketing department shit this turd out in (checks notes) 2017: You should see Iowa fans whenever someone wears a black alternate.
  23. Holy shit that is awful. But VERY representative of that era’s aesthetic.
  24. Great book. I’ve read everything Klosterman has ever wrote. His background (and ingrained worldview as a result) is extremely similar to mine, except I ended up more like his older brother who took over the family farm. Hell, he even looks like my best friend’s brother.
