This is excellent. It feels like a more weary, worn version of their self titled album. "Leaving Town", "What Was Advertised", and "On the Red River" are early favorites. Really though, I like every song so far. The people who didn't like "A Cat in the Rain" will likely be satisfied. "Leaving Town" is a co-write with Dave Simonett and holy shit you can hear his sense of melody in the verse.

College Hoops 2024-25
Creighton's a better job than Aggy. Omaha > College Station. No football to compete with for resources. Wealthy alumni that are invested in program. Averaging like 17-19K in a beautiful newish arena. Imagine Nebraska football fans with a ton of money and love of hoops.

I'm going to assume that the Ketch co-write has some monster fiddle lines for Nix in it. I also think it's cool to see Nix have some songs in here. I actually really liked his solo albums from a writing and arrangement perspective. He's not the best singer/frontman, but there are some gems in there - especially the second one.

Not an obvious influence, but it reminded me of Ben Kweller's early stuff too (which was definitely influenced by Dinosaur Jr)

"She's Leaving You" is close to a 10 for me.

This has a lot more new Felker material than Cat In The Rain. Hope Ruby Mae is as much of an ear worm as the last Edwards/Roark song.

Probably just a few songs. I saw them the week after Cat In the Rain dropped and they only played the advance singles

New album out Friday. Doing the “drop the single on TouchTunes while the website crashes” thing. LFG.

That’s the one. I like (don’t love) Bert, and get why some people can’t stand him, but he definitely has a way of making people comfortable and getting honesty from them.

He talked about her on a podcast interview this winter. It sounds pretty complicated. She bailed on the family when he was pretty young and had some serious mental health and drug problems. But he credits her for his artistic gifts, and loves her fiercely in spite of that.

Hooters done gone tits up.
The last time I went to a Hooter's was during Oktoberfest in La Crosse, Wisconsin. It was the only place that didn't have a wait beyond 15 minutes. You would have thought that they could have busted out some German beer maid outfits for the occasion, but nein.

Gen Z fuckin' loves Chilis for reasons that I don't really understand. That said, I'm an elder Millennial and we're notorious for our disdain in chain places.

College basketball coaching carousel: 2025 edition
I saw it a few pages back, but holy shit, I'd be over the moon if Aggy went and got Hoiberg before he gets fired in Lincoln. Those two deserve each other. That said, I can't see Hoiberg going there. He's never been based outside of the Midwest as a player or coach. The best part is it would force Nebraska to hire a coach now, and that would likely mean they don't get Drake's new coach (who I assumed they'd hire after he Drakes to the dance next season and they can Fred).

I don't know Beard as well as you guys, but this absolutely the vibe I get from him. My guess is he thinks that Texas's administration fucked him over, and he's going to be out for revenge. In no way does he strike me as a reformed man who understands how he ended up where he is.

Beach Towns (US)
I remember being 4 years old and too short to ride that roller coaster. Utter meltdown. A lot of my good buddies from ISU grew up there, so I spent a lot of time hanging out there in the summers in college drinking way too much and chasing tail. It has a special place in my heart, even though it's a bit laughable to include it in a list of great beach communities (but it really sorta is).

Songs that hit you or someone you love in the feels
This song was released the day before my daughter was born (August of '23). Turnpike's probably my favorite active band. It's generally written towards the singer's wife, and the fans of the band, but it a lot of the sentiment can be applied to our situation. We first met with fertility doctors in July of 2017 and went through a bunch of IVF, egg retrieval, spent hundreds of thousands, and had gotten nowhere. My went down the surrogacy road and the first person who agreed to be a surrogate backed out right before implementation. It just seemed like it would never happen. And then it did. When the "with a dance or two still left in me" comes through, it makes me think of her getting married someday and it wrecks me.

That picture was shortly after I set it up. It's now home to a pink Princess tent, a Bluey bubble wand, dog chew toys, and an endless array of stuffed animals.
