  1. Why is ECU in the spot they're in? They have probably the biggest fanbase of a remaining G5 school. Their stadium wouldn't be the smallest in any P4 league. They've shown you can win there. But they've never ever even been close to being a candidate to move up in the world. Just always seemed a little weird to me.
  2. I like watching ISU wrestling when they have Friday night duals, but I'm not huge into it. Part of it is that college wrestling is just everyone fighting to be #2 because Pedo State is so far out ahead of everyone else at this stage. Even Iowa and OK State can't catch them.
  3. Doesn't this get someone excommunicated from Oklahoma altogether?
  4. Nah. We'll never be competitive and no one cared when we had one.
  5. I'm starting to think that the Big 12 and ACC backed 5+11 in hopes it would create a wedge between the SEC and Big 10. The Big 12 and ACC are far less disadvantaged by a playoff that includes them (even if they don't get many teams in) than they are by a playoff that does not include them. The Big 10 is not the SEC's on-field equal, and everyone knows it. That's a big part of why the Big 10 wants 4 auto-bids (outside of creating revenue via play-ins). Weirdly, it's better for the bulk of the sport if the SEC considers itself above everyone than if it decides to have one special friend it wants to go hold hands with in their tree fort forever. If the SEC and Big 10 aren't on the same page, they're far less likely to push the red button.
  6. Preach Gen Z ISUers love that logo because A) Gen Z has awful taste, and B) everyone gets sentimental about shit from their early childhood.
  7. New lids
  8. (whispers in farmer) that’s a tractor…
  9. When I was a little kid the similarity of the names "Liam Neeson" and "Leslie Neilson" always fucked with me. That reason alone made me happy that Neeson was cast as Drebin Jr.
  10. Yeah, it’s definitely the networks running the show, but they want more inventory than the top 15-20 schools provide. They already have most of the sport at a price point that works really well, and that’s why I think the Big 10/SEC remoras will be paid less, but not formally relegated. Like what the Big 12 and ACC are currently experiencing.
  11. My guess is that the SEC and Big 10 take maybe 4 schools currently in the ACC, and maintain their position of power and financial top level status. The Big 12 and remaining ACC merge into something. Perhaps the ACC schools that aren't really that committed to big time college athletics (BC, Wake) drop down a level to like an AAC or whatever. A playoff that's majority SEC and Big 10 with a handful of spots for the next tier and maybe 1 of the current G5 results in this aftermath. This gives the Big 10 and SEC all the power and money they want, with enough access to everyone to prevent anti-trust suits. Within the Big 10 and SEC, there will be a re-arranging of finances. The Purdues and Rutgers of the world won't be culled per se, but they'll no longer be paid as much as Ohio State and Michigan. They'll be given the choice of being paid to associate with those schools and take losses, or attempt a more competitive but less lucrative existence in the BigACC or whatever that entity goes by. The tiers that are obvious today will become more cemented in a de facto sense, but probably not formally.
  12. The new Pac 12 feels like it's going to be my Friday night wind down when coming home from the field, and I'm all about it.
  13. A nice reminder that my recollection of him not being a total asshole prior to COVID was valid.
  14. Or was it Diseased Iguana Brewing’s specialty?
  15. I'm gonna see DBT for like the 8 millionth time next month with Deer Tick. Should be a hoot.
  16. Never had west. Love east and Gulf.
  17. Drive-By Truckers and The Hold Steady were at the peak of their powers in the early to mid aughts. Nothing but pummeling riffs and tales of miscreant behavior. None of the passivity bullshit that absolutely existed in that era (and I say that as someone who graduated HS in 2003 and was already annoyed with it then).
  18. Can you tell me what the power ball numbers are?
  19. I’ve had chili cheese brats from a small town locker that were excellent.
  20. I'm seeing now that Sankey will push for an ESPN metric to determine the CFP rankings. If that's the case, I switch to firmly in the 4-4-2-2 camp because ESPN is 100% going to use that to fill it with SEC teams and keep Big 12 teams out.
  21. And I can't imagine there will be any proposed system that will give any true blue blood fits for making it into the playoff with a minimum of 8-9 wins.
  22. As a fan of a school in the Big 12, I'm don't know that I even care all that much about which method (between these two) ends up getting selected. I know that my school (and the other schools in this league) isn't going to win a natty. I don't see a massive difference in outcome from one method to the other. I just want to know that my school is allowed to objectively play it's way in, and the game stops getting farther away from the sport I fell in love with. I'm fine with the allocation of the 4-4-2-2 model (I think it's fair), I just don't like the idea of an invitational (the codifying different strata doesn't bother me as much as it does the decision makers). I think 5/11 because I think it makes for a better product (I enjoy conference championship games) and I think a pure invitational kinda sucks as a sports fan. I'll watch regardless as long as my school is allowed to participate. This just doesn't seem like a situation with an obvious best choice from my perspective. There are existential risks in either path. We don't have much control anyhow, and what's going to happen in this support for good or bad will happen regardless of the Big 12 or ACC.
  23. Well no shit they aren't being altruistic. Your next point is exactly what I said up the thread. Not codifying second tier status is the primary goal. But this absolutely allows them to pay "walk the walk" type lip service to the idea they've been tossing around (that the most powerful leagues should care more about what's best for everyone), regardless of how bullshit it actually is. It's not their motivation, but it's something they can use. The Big 12 and ACC aren't in a power position, and they know it. I really doubt that they honestly believe that they're going to gain on the blue bloods. The SEC and Big 10 can just drive this into the ditch whenever they want. If the Big 12 and ACC agree to 4-4-2-2 they're in a shitty spot. If they agree to 5/11 they're in a shitty spot. If they agree to 4-4-2-2 what's to stop the SEC and Big 10 from changing it to 5-5-1-1 in another two years? Nothing. They can now do what they want. This is a play at perception. It's the best hand the Big 12 and ACC have. Work to effect public perception and hopes that the viewing masses push back against the SEC and Big 10 formally hoarding power on top of having all the de facto power. We all know that turning the playoff into an anti-competitive invitational sucks. Does anyone really want that product? I mean, outside of Sankey and Pettiti.
