  1. Yeah, I feel like his specials have taken enough shots at that crowd that they'd get the hint, but they only care that he was canceled from SNL due to an old racist tweet, and that basically puts you next to God in that crowd.
  2. You poor bastard. There is nothing worse than wealthy farmers and ranchers who cash massive subsidy checks screaming about taxes and government handouts as they buy $80K 4 door pick ups to keep from paying taxes.
  3. This is really starting to piss me off. I understand that my measurable stats (white, straight, male, late 30's, Iowan, farmer) scream Republican, so I get why people who barely know me (or don't know me at all) assume I'm of that political ilk, but I also get annoyed when liberals do it too. A lot of people just lack the awareness to realize there are good odds that in almost every social situation there are a mix of political beliefs, and that most people are just so worn out on the subject that they don't want to talk about it any how.
  4. “I’m not gonna pay $80 for some shrink to show me ink blots of a priest’s dick” I laughed so hard I started choking
  5. Very frustrated but glad for the win. Almost feels like they knew the Houston/Baylor result and were out of mentally as a result
  6. God damn it Baylor. Get your shit together. Fucking clowns.
  7. Camp fire roasted Oscar Meyer’s topped with camp fire warmed Hormel chili, and some Lay’s sour cream and onion.
  8. Which will be the beginning of the end of the sport’s immense popularity. College football is huge because it explicitly isn’t the NFL
  9. Something about a world where you don’t care about winning your conference seems awful.
  10. The Big 10 and SEC would all but be guaranteed 2-3 bids here. Codify it, I guess, but that’s not an at large. If the past decade has taught us anything it’s that the committee values brand Uber alles. If the Big 10 or SEC failed to get multiple bids in this scenario, it’s because the leagues were truly putrid that year. But now that we have 12 it’s never going to 8. That’s just a thought experiment on what I think the best product looks like.
  11. I still like 8. AQ for SEC, B10, B12, ACC champs. No byes. 4 at large. If G5 has a team ranked above a certain point they’re in. SEC probably gets 3 bids, Big 10 probably gets 2, everyone else gets 1. Generally speaking.
  12. This sounds a little like the proposals to have a 128 team NCAA hoops tournament.
  13. Nah. They already "don't matter". It's still an opportunity to create interesting non-conference exhibition games in interesting travel locations that people can bet on. There will be fewer bowl games, but there will still be bowl games. IMO. Plus, that's a TON of ad revenue that TV networks aren't going to just say "fuck it" towards.
  14. There would be less interest in both of these playoffs, IMO. They would both make plenty of money, but they aren't going to make more than a big playoff that gives everyone a theoretical shot. One of the reasons March Madness is so well watched is because everyone at least gets a shot at the same crown and occasionally Cinderella makes a run. The Big 12 and ACC just want some guaranteed access. Is there a reason the SEC and Big 10 can't accommodate that? They're already making far more money, and the playoffs will be set up in a way that they make the most. This whole idea of a break away is fueled far more by this desire (that's always lurked in college sports) to have an exclusive tree fort that the ugly kids can't play in than it is about long term financial success. Big 12 and ACC fans are going to watch Big 10 and SEC games when they know that those are schools they might play in the post season. If they aren't competing for the same thing, they're going to watch a lot less of it. The whole thing seems predicated on the idea that the left out schools will just become fans of Big 10 and SEC schools, and it completely misunderstands the whole root of collegiate fandom. I enjoy watching the FCS playoffs when I get a chance, but it's not appointment television because it doesn't really affect my school or who we play. That's what will happen (in each direction) with further splintering. The only way I see a splintering possibly making more money is if it's the absolute 15-20 elite brands shedding the Indianas and Mississippi State's of the world to come play in a quite large second tier that has a truly national scope and can organize on regional basis. The SEC and Big 10 already won financially. It's over. A modicum of clemency would make for a product that would maximize ratings and profitability.
  15. This looks like a Big 12 schedule. FSU is more interesting than any Big 12 school, and BC and Cal are worse. 2 of those schools literally are Big 12 schools, and Pitt is Big 12 equivalent. I truly don't understand the hang up people have on brands coming in to their stadium. I care far more about watching Iowa State than who the opponent is, with the exception of long time rivals/historic opponents, and again the history or rivalry matters far more than the brand to me. A top 25 UCF or Houston is far more intriguing to me than an unranked Cal or Pitt.
  16. I always liked the simplicity of “you’ve made a big impression for a girl of your size”. My daughter has big brown eyes and I sing the chorus to her when I’m rocking her to sleep. I wasn’t sure if it’s creepy or not, but the chorus could easily be platonic on its own. It’s just such a great melody that I can’t resist.
  17. 19 has always absolutely slayed me, especially this couplet I was only 19. Finished up with high school. Headed to a state school. Walked right into you. That will always immediately take me to my first major college fling/crush.
  18. If you die fearing God and gainfully employed you will not go to heaven, you'll go to Champaign, Illinois Legitimately one of the funniest lines I've ever heard
  19. Isbell does it twice on the same album doesn't he? Also The White Stripes "Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine". Acetaminophen, you see the medicine. Oh girl, you have no faith in medicine.
  20. A coach who does well and then leaves you high and dry is totally different than a coach who sucks and you have to fire, at least for me. Underwood fucked you over. Boynton did his best and failed. Ford. Well, man. I don't even know how to describe him. I always kinda hated playing his teams as an opponent, but it's hard not to equate him with the decline of OSU basketball.
  21. It's going to be almost 70 here next Tuesday, and then 30 (for the high) on Wednesday before getting back to 60 by Friday.
  22. You will. I'm finally cool with Greg McDermott. Took a decade, but I'm there.
  23. I've expected us to be further along too. Like you pointed out with fall, because the ground was so dry we were actually able to ride through the freeze/thaw until the snow fell. We didn't get very much, and it was only around for 2-3 weeks, but it's after effects have been surprisingly stubborn. A few days around 50 isn't unusual in February, but the whole month has had highs between 35 and 55, with more on the warmer end than the cooler. We've had one day all month with a high below freezing and it was (of course) a Saturday. This is either going to tie or break the record for warmest February on the Iowa/Minnesota border.
  24. Glad I'm not the only one. It's been relentless the past 5-6 days. I either get "you have unpaid taxes" or what sounds like 1:30 of dial up modem noises.
