Don't own a fatbike myself, but have ridden a friend's on several occasions. They are a lot of fun.

People are churchin' them up these days, but I prefer the simpler, original versions: rigid fork and frame, 1x drivetrain, and mechanical disc brakes (a la Avid BB7s). Not the fastest climbers or descenders, but if you're just out to have fun and enjoy the scenery, seems like a great idea.

And since winter just ended, you should be able to get a screamin' deal on one.

That is exactly what's going on.  I'm pretty good friends with the guys at my local bike shop, and was up there having beers a few after-work beers last week and he knew I was kind of interested in adding a versatile bike to the fleet.  I could get into a pretty decent one for what seems like a dirt cheap price to me.

My goal is basically to combine exercise, a little adrenaline, and scenery.  Cover ground I wouldn't otherwise, that sort of shit.  Sounds like that should do the trick.

  2. Looking at buying a fat bike.  We have a lot of single track in my neck of the woods, and in the winter, there are groomed off-road snowmobile trails that guys ride fat bike on.

Anyone have single track experience with a fat bike?  All research seems to indicate you'll be fine as long as you aren't looking to compete with it, which I'm not.

  3. Our spring game is now cancelled, and it's only due to rain.

Granted, the field had snow on it this AM, but there's nothing in the forecast that would indicate more snow or even freezing.  I guess they don't want to destroy the field/get guys injured.  Fine by me.

Yes, 20+ years. Although now I am a bagger and come across the route only a few times. I've taken friends and found serious racing cyclists hate it, but weekend warriors enjoy it. Iowa is a wonderful cycling destination.

It's definitely more about the party and less about serious riding.  I'm not an "every year" kind of guy, but I do it when I can.  It's pretty much everything I love about my home state on display for a week.

I'm a big fan of savory oatmeal.  I usually make mine with steel cut oats and then add a little sesame oil, soy sauce, sriracha, and green onions.

I'll definitely try this Asian twist, as I keep all of those at home.

Since we're talking about all these hot sauce varieties, what is everyone's favorite food to pair with your hot sauce of choice? I think we all know the more common things like eggs, burritos, oysters, etc. But I would be curious if there is something kinda different that you think pairs well with. I went to Babe's with a cousin one time and he recommended I cover my fried chicken with hot sauce. I had never heard of that but it was excellent. (Can't remember what the hot sauce was). Not that it is uncommon, but I always thought hot sauce complimented pulled pork tacos perfectly. Anyways, let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance, I'll hang up now and listen.

I use sriracha or cholula to make savory oatmeal.  It's one of my weekday staple breakfasts.

Just use standard oatmeal, and sriracha, Cavender's Greek seasoning, shredded cheese, jalapenos, and a little A1.  It's fucking delicious and healthy.  For whatever reason, going the savory route makes it stick to my ribs better than brown sugar and fruit.

I realize I'll get a lot of flak for this, but I think everyone should try it once before dismissing.

  7. The lingering pissy winter has cut into my road riding.  Will be getting at it hard pretty soon.  There's over 150 miles of paved trails (mostly old rail lines) within a 45 minute radius of my house, so I have a lot to choose from.

Any of you degenerates ever do RAGBRAI?  It seems like every person I met on the ride last year from outside of Iowa was from Texas.

My dad always said Arkansas fans were the only ones he'd ever encountered who could make you feel like you were a visiting fan in your own stadium. Absolute gutter trash. He was at UT in the late 60's -- before the 30-game winning streak.

Nebraska fans were this way.  The final ISU/Nebraska game was easily the most hostile, charged atmosphere I've ever seen among fans. There were 5-10K of those fanny pack wearing "GO BIG REEEEDDDD" chanting Runza eating mongrels at Jack Trice.  Fights were breaking out throughout the stadium.

For as much as they pride themselves on being the "greatest fans in college football" when you visit Lincoln, they practically turn feral on the road.

  9. I've seen the videos of Felker wasted at Steamboat, but I've seen them a bunch of times and he's never been drunk to the point where it took away from the show.  I would say there's a less than 10% chance he'll be fucked up, but that's significant enough one may not buy a ticket.

He is nowhere close to Todd Snider/Replacements level of unreliability.

Regarding the divorce, the other tidbit that floated out is that Felker is the new Mr. Miranda Lambert.  They opened for her last year, and then a couple months ago they canceled some back yard Midwest gigs to open for her again.  Seems like pure baseless speculation, but if that's the case, I think the next record will have some incredibly strong source material.

About 10 years ago, Easter was on April 8th.  We got 9 inches of snow in Central TX on April 7th.  It happens

Yeah, we got a foot in May once.  The difference between what's going on now and what happened then is that our other late season snows were followed by immediate warm up and melt off, where with this it got cold, and it's stayed cold, and it won't warm up for another 3-4 days.

We basically got a full week of January in April.  It's unlike anything I've witnessed.

Absolutely one of the coolest places in the U.S. Take a guided hiking tour of the fiery furnace if you can. You must go with either a Park Ranger or a tour company. Canyonlands is also a great park. There's also a nice brewpub restaurant in the center of town. It's also a very pretty little town if you have the time to walk around.

    Yup.

Wife and I swung through there on a lark during our honeymoon.  Spent the night in Moab, and went hiking at Arches the next day.  The Moab Brewery was quite good, especially given Utah's buttfucked alcohol laws.  Moab Diner had a great breakfast the morning before our hike.

At Arches, you pretty much have to do the hike to Delicate Arch.  You can't see it from any point along the hike until you suddenly come around a bend and BAM, it's right there.  Breath taking.  Devil's Garden to Double O arch was a spectacular hike as well.

That one already roared thru at 45mph.

Don't worry, we're supposed to get 6 more inches of snow Monday.

We'll have more snow in April than January and December combined if that happens.  NO CR, but seriously, how do people think this is normal?

I can't speak for ISU, but I do know that both Texas & Oklahoma have played schools from the PAC more than any other schools from any other conference, so there is a bit of a history there in that respects... But honestly, in no way do I want to see a day where ISU isn't in the same conference, as the P5, the fans are amazing and the fact that it's an AAU school adds a feather for the XII... It sucks that it's even gotten to this point where we wonder who would get left out...

In my "best of both worlds" merger the XII has: Iowa State/ Kansas/ Oklahoma/ Oklahoma State/ TCU/ Texas/ Texas Tech

    While the other half, the PAC has: Washington/ Oregon/ Stanford/ California/ USC/ UCLA/ Arizona/ Arizona State/ Colorado

The other possibility is just a simple joint network between the 2 leagues, allowing current members to remain as is, with annual cross conference games in the non-conference...

I appreciate the sentiment, but I still think a merger is stupid.  I could see working together as media partners like you mention, but the leagues should stay separate and play their current set ups.  That's the best way to continue to foster fan interest over the long term.

I don't think any current P5 school is at danger of getting kicked out, unfortunately even Baylor.

  14. The Pac merger is stupid.  I want no part of it.  I know you like making the graphics, and that's fine, but Jesus Christ the last thing college football needs is more conferences that span half the width of the country and feature schools with zero history or shared culture.  Blech.

I think that we had it wrong all along and are just now realizing it.  I know I thought that the PAC was a better place for Tech but I now realize that I was wrong.  The Big 12 was better then because the average of the individual football programs was better.  And it still is, even with the current membership.  It just took a few guys doing the math and realizing that while the PAC 10 was more stable, it was not as profitable.  Or at least that's the way I see it

And at this point, I think stability's a wash.  I just don't see any of the current schools/administrations being all that unsatisfied with their affiliation.

    Except the guys on LandThieves.

This and the improvement of programs like TCU and OSU.  I know I'm biased but BIG12 football style of play is the best all around.

I think it's the most entertaining league in the country, if only because of Round Robin play.  Every school plays each other every year.  I know I give way more of a damn about the Texas schools now that we've been playing every year for awhile, and every game has implications.  It makes the basketball side of things better too.

Monday Morning Podcast is one of the best out there. His stream of consciousness is outstanding.

Agreed.  I haven't missed an episode since 2015, except for some of the guest ones.  He's just not a good interviewer.  He's great as a guest on other podcasts, and great on his own, but not when he's leading the charge with someone else.

I think the funniest podcast he was a part of was the time he and Tom Segura were on Bert Kreischer's podcast.  Might have been late 2016 or so.  Segura tells a story about a chick getting gangbanged by the Wu-Tang Clan.  Some of the funniest shit I've ever heard.  Also great from that time period was The End of the World Podcast the night of the 2016 Election.  Burr, Stanhope, Rogan, Kreischer, Stanhope's whole crew, probably some others.  Burr was on fire.

After the dust settled from the last round of big moves, it has become very clear that the PAC 10 needed the Texhoma Four much worse than the Texhoma Four needed the PAC 10.

I honestly believe that if the PAC could get KSU and ISU, they would significantly upgrade the viewership and interest in their football conference.  Not that it is going to happen, but those two programs are better than the median of a PAC 12 program in value

We certainly have more engaged fanbases than all but a handful of Pac 12 schools.

Honestly, if the Pac 12 showed up tomorrow and asked ISU and KSU to join a Pac 14, we'd be foolish to join.  That's not going to happen, but the relative of health of the two conferences seems to have gone in different directions since the attempted raid/merger.
