  1. If you know how many loyalty points you have, you can go here (https://texassports.com/sports/2021/2/22/loyalty-points) to get a better idea. I would assume, based on nothing but a hunch, that if you're a new season ticket waitlist, you'd need to be at the level of about 100 points to get off the waitlist. That would be a $2,000 "Longhorn Excellence" donation or a $10,000 "seat gift" donation. I could be way off, and that is a complete wild ass guess. Here is the chart they posted online updated as of March 11th (weird date to update, since the deadline was March 15th to donate):
  2. I like Mother's. But then, I get the ham biscuit or the debris biscuit, and not much else. I also wouldn't wait in line for it. In fact, I think I would have preferred Mother's for breakfast over Atchafalaya when I was there last.
  3. Pretty sure that was a joke. If not, I laughed anyway, so it was a joke to me.
  4. Not if you worked for Belmont. So, go work for Belmont.
  5. Did not know this. Thank you. Also, how does one get this job. Asking for myself.
  6. It’s not Cajun, but I went to Shaya (on Magazine, in the Garden District) last month and it was one of the best meals we had there. It’s Israeli food, but very fucking good Israeli food. And even then, it l’s not kosher (there was shrimp and other non-kosher items).
  7. It's quite a bit lower than the current Rivian offerings. And I haven't killed anyone in a parking lot yet!
  8. For those of you with equally bad math skills, here's the actual math:
  9. At the game and missed it. Think it was a foul ball into the Aggie dugout. Don’t know who it hit.

I went to the one up north a bunch of times before it closed, but never the south. Assuming it’s the same, it’s worth a stop.
  11. I went with my wife and some friends to Ling Kitchen last night for my birthday. It's a chef's table dining experience in North Austin (near Ohlen Road and 183 - so not the best part of town - they have you park in the back behind a gated entrance that you have to have a code to get into). It's by Chef Ling Wu, who also runs Ling Wu, Qi, and Lin Asian Bar in town. You have to make reservations ahead of time (duh), and they don't open up reservations for the following month until the first of the preceding month. The setup is a 10 course tasting menu, $150pp, reservations only in groups of 2/4/etc. They advertise it as a 10 seat experience, but last night there was at least double that. Still small, and intimate - but they must have gotten their sea legs and feel comfortable with a larger group now. The dining table is in the kitchen, so you see most of the dishes being prepared - but it's not obtrusive at all. Let me get it out of the way - this is worth doing. It is one of the best dining experiences I've had in Austin (not the best - that would be at Restaurant Jezebel (RIP)), and well worth $150 per person. They do not do a wine pairing, but they have an extensive wine list and spirits list, so you can certainly add on as you please. There is only one seating a night, and only 3 nights a week (Friday/Saturday/Sunday), so you do need to book out in advance unless you get lucky and they have a last minute cancellation. The dinner starts at 6:30, but they have a hot tea/champagne meet and greet starting at 6:00, and they ask you to be there on time so that they can star at 6:30 on the dot. Start to finish, it is just about 3 hours, and you don't feel rushed or like it is dragging on. The do have some breaks in between the courses, and they do things to make it more communal (like having you go around the table and introduce yourself and give a fun fact - which sounds corny but it was actually fun - I guess I'd had enough wine by then). Long cat post with photos in the spoiler below: It was a great experience - I would gladly go back for future special occasions (so if anyone wants to invite me, feel free). With wine and drinks and tip it was close to double the price as the food alone, which is not unexpected, but want to make sure that people aren't surprised. I do wish they had a wine pairing, because I'd rather have several different wines instead of sharing a bottle or two, but that's just a personal preference. All in all, I'm happy I finally made it there, and I'm glad we have this restaurant in Austin.

Except their house-made ketchup for the fries is an abomination.

    Catfish Parlor down on 71?
  14. Madeline Connor is going to get the last laugh.
  15. How'd they find out? All my neighbors in that area always said not to involve the city and they wouldn't snitch on each other.
  16. It's good, but making rice with this is better:
  17. I asked this year … I was told by LHF you have to have $1MM of lifetime donations to even get on a waiting list for a suite currently.
  18. Last weekend of April and First weekend of May. But its out at the Race Track.
  19. We hit Atchafalaya for brunch on the way out of town and … was disappointed. I had high expectations and it didn’t live up to them. It started strong with the fried green tomatoes app (it comes with three but asked for them to plate it with 4 since there were four of us and they obliged). That was a very good rendition, but that was the high point. I had the breakfast risotto - it was pretty much a jambalaya made with boudin (I know it wasn’t actually that, but that’s the flavor notes it hit) with a poached egg and pork belly. It was … fine. Good but not great - and needed liberal helpings of crystal hot sauce. I also ordered a biscuit on the side, and it was dry. Came with jam but not butter. It was $5 and not worth fifty cents in my opinion - I didn’t even finish half of it. My sister had the shrimp and grits - this was probably the best dish at our table but it’s not the best shrimp and grits to be had in NOLA like some people say. My brother had the duck hash and it was good, and my mom enjoyed her crab cake Benedict. But we all agreed it was several steps below the other places we hit this weekend. Oh well - even a step down was still a pretty darn good meal, the weather was fantastic all weekend, and can’t knock spending time with my mom in a city I love (she’s in good health, but 70s are still 70s and you don’t take anything for granted). I’m back in Austin now and already counting down the weeks until I’m back for Jazz Fest.
