  1. you talking about this guy? that would be an upgrade for him
  2. what's their policy? apart from the policy manifesto we are supposed to forget exists?
  3. 2 years ago, this sentence might as well could have been Spanish to me. If you've lived this life and speak this lingo, you take for granted how simple that setup seems, when it's not. You're taking for granted, at minimum, an understanding of stocks vs bonds, let's not talk of index vs active funds, mutual funds vs ETFs, the tax liabilities of brokerage account vs a retirement/advantaged account... before something like "VOO in tax advantaged accounts" reads as easy as it types.
  4. to be fair, it's not easy to understand. I remember being very pissed when I realized that if I just saved money the "straightforward" way, in a savings account, I would actually be losing over my lifetime. It feels like I'm being forced to play a game I really don't want to. A full 1/4 to 1/3 of my free time now is spent on becoming financially literate. probably another lie.
  5. Saying that 46% of American households own stock is the glass half-full version of the story. Here is the other version: The wealthiest 10% of Americans own 93% of the stock The bottom 50% held just 1% of the stock. That's not a recipe for people earning the median income thinking that their gains in the market are offsetting the price of purchased goods, cost of college, etc....
  6. I've skipped most of the TV series, I think, and really doubt I will be doing any catch-ups just to "get it" for a scene or character when any movies come out. I was also a big time comic book reader but that was what; 15-20 years ago? If it leaves me that clueless, nothing a summary on the Internets won't fix. I'm not watching Madame Web (yes, yes, I know it's Sony Pictures. I'm being facetious) just to understand something in some other movie......
  7. this thread should be ported over to the Olympics section. we are essentially running two game threads now
  8. you'd have to assume it was truly a mistake/oversight. nobody should be that stupid. big blow to the team.
  9. I know its the Netherlands and they have just a slightly different take on crime and rehabilitation, but gaddamn allowing someone who had sex with a 12 year old to rep your country.
  10. Curry walks that line between showmanship and taunting so well....
  11. you get points for a loss? Jesus
  12. easy to hate, but umm, he's kinda good?
  13. that's why I said I'm not sure why I think of it that way. Possibly because they generate similar crazy headlines in terms of legislation and "movements," and that skews my perception...
  14. I'm not sure why I think of Arizona as being almost as crazy and lost as Texas and Florida, culturally....
  15. As a basketball decision, maybe. As a true team member, not so much.
  16. everytime the messaging is about how well the stock market is doing, I wonder if there is a lack of realization of just how many Americans do not actively participate in the stock market and aren't sitting down watching their 401K rise. It's this is what I spent in 2021 to buy bread, this is what I spend now. A difficult needle to thread, but sometimes it comes across as being dismissive of lived experiences
  17. Does Pete not have his own baggage? McKinsey, Lobbyist funding, bad, bad polling with Black voters during his run. None of these are slam dunks or one far above the other. If it were a debate and talking head competition, yeah Buttigieg is likely #1 as a choice; but that's not the world we have to play in.
  18. It's also why Shapiro would come with some hesitance. I detest those people.
  19. I can't help but think this guy has the beadiest fucking eyes I've seen in a candidate for that office in a long, long time. It's rather striking.

    Biden's legacy

He likely wins in 2016 as well (a grave miscalculation by the party and Obama wing), and who knows what that alternate timeline looks like, and I think the memory of that underscores his steadfast belief that he remained the best option on the table.
