  1. this is a bit off topic, and likely not of much interest here, but in my corner of the world, you sometimes get these pleas for athletes that are eligible to compete for African nations vs European nations or the US, to stick with African side... and then you get shit like this, and it reminds you why some people rightly would rather do otherwise... .... this on the heels of this, from 4 years ago
  2. I think they will medal
  3. she really does get up there.
  4. this is nerve wracking
  5. Wining a medal for your country in 96 years has to be quite the feeling.
  6. we've got some really likeable athletes...
  7. she's fucking great
  8. thanks. forgot about that rule. it's infuriating.
  9. how do these performances translate to the individual medals?
  10. was Chiles' mount too difficult? so far from what I've seen, it definitely looked like the hardest attempt.
  11. gymnastics has to be one of the most ridiculous things to even try and critique as a couch-watcher. you can lie to yourself about your ability to play basketball or run or swim.... because you did it at the local YMCA way back when gymnastics, its just watch and shut-up, because to even try one of these is permanent disability for me.. 😅
  12. Beam is the hardest right?
  13. don't give GRRM ideas
  14. The distance/time aspect of the show can bug me sometimes. Something happens on Dragonstone, and the next clip is two people discussing it at King's Landing what seems like the next evening. Dude gets a dragon, and it looks like a 5 minute ride from there to King's Landing, ditto the chase. Who is marching where and why does it take so long anyways. I know there are maps of all these places with distances, but if you stick to just watching the show itself, it's not communicated very well. GOT did much better on this point.
  15. you talking about this guy? that would be an upgrade for him
  16. imagine what October is going to bring
  17. what's their policy? apart from the policy manifesto we are supposed to forget exists?
  18. 2 years ago, this sentence might as well could have been Spanish to me. If you've lived this life and speak this lingo, you take for granted how simple that setup seems, when it's not. You're taking for granted, at minimum, an understanding of stocks vs bonds, let's not talk of index vs active funds, mutual funds vs ETFs, the tax liabilities of brokerage account vs a retirement/advantaged account... before something like "VOO in tax advantaged accounts" reads as easy as it types.
  19. to be fair, it's not easy to understand. I remember being very pissed when I realized that if I just saved money the "straightforward" way, in a savings account, I would actually be losing over my lifetime. It feels like I'm being forced to play a game I really don't want to. A full 1/4 to 1/3 of my free time now is spent on becoming financially literate. probably another lie.
  20. Saying that 46% of American households own stock is the glass half-full version of the story. Here is the other version: The wealthiest 10% of Americans own 93% of the stock The bottom 50% held just 1% of the stock. That's not a recipe for people earning the median income thinking that their gains in the market are offsetting the price of purchased goods, cost of college, etc....
  21. zero chance anyone made that threat to Biden
  22. I've skipped most of the TV series, I think, and really doubt I will be doing any catch-ups just to "get it" for a scene or character when any movies come out. I was also a big time comic book reader but that was what; 15-20 years ago? If it leaves me that clueless, nothing a summary on the Internets won't fix. I'm not watching Madame Web (yes, yes, I know it's Sony Pictures. I'm being facetious) just to understand something in some other movie......
