  1. Well, not technically. While various public opinion research outfits (like Pew) start GenX at 1965 because that’s *clearly* a Gen X cohort and you’re not catching baby boomers at the left tail, most demographers and the social security administration use 1961 because that’s when the birth rate started dropping, thus the baby boom was over. Sociologists are often in the middle, saying that Gen X begins with the vibe shift that followed the Kennedy Assassination. For these reasons, it’s pretty accurate to call Kamala Harris a Gen Xer because culturally, she is.
  2. @Handcruser is my dude y’all can gargle with bofa also this is an incredibly insightful read but I’m struggling with the name Dennis Holeman. Like that’s a rough name to grow up with I bet.
  3. New motto: when they do low we call them weird nerds and knock them down and hit them with their own hands while shouting “why are you hitting yourself,” until their toadies slink away, lest the same happen to them.
  4. That’s reasonable, but I am actually quite hopeful and compare this to 2016. in 2016 a large number of Hillary voters (including me) were very unhappy with their option, and Democrats in general weren’t very enthusiastic about Her campaign. Republicans, by contrast were 100% enthusiastic about beating her and a plurality of Trump voters were positively giddy about their choice. 2024 feels the opposite way. A large number of Kamala voters are giddy about it, and Democrats in general are very (as of Sunday) enthusiastic and hopeful about beating Trump, while Republicans in general seem unhappy, grim, and directionless while also appearing to take victory for granted.
  5. I would too, but it’s not required to play out that way. Basically some Trump voters would only vote for Trump, and some Gallego voters would have to vote for RFKJ, Stein, Cornell West etc.
  6. I hear from someone in a position to know that Manchin is extremely unhappy with Kamala’s swift consolidation of delegates and ascent to the nomination. He genuinely believes she can’t win, doesn’t like her politics, and we can speculate that he actually thought he had a chance to win the nomination or at least play kingmaker. There’s also a rumor circulating that Obama is furious about Kamala locking it up so quickly because he wanted Kelly. TLDR: DEMS IN DISARRAY
  7. I don’t think that’s true. But, we only have the options on the ballot, of which she is best. I’ve only voted *for* anyone once. I’m very comfortable voting against, and Kamala is the vote against Trump. This is an easy choice.
  8. This focus group is like walking into a barbershop in Oak Cliff and asking them what they think about Ben Shapiro.
  9. You’re begging the question. People don’t eat it up. Most people are irritated to even receive the message. Stuff like this is strategic air power. It’s about softening the battlespace so that when a more tactical message arrives, the targets are ready to surrender.
  10. Americans: willing to argue about literally anything that keeps them from dealing with isolation, abuse and despair.
  11. It’s not worth the expenditure of political capital and wouldn’t make any sort of dent in gun violence even if it happened, but I agree that saying it deepens the commitment of some Democratic voters in some places.
  12. I think what she’s talking about is the potential, if everything goes right, for this to trigger a blue wave election. It’s unlikely, but the path exists.
  13. I know we have moved past it, but this is objectively great work
