  1. You nailed almost exactly what I was coming here to say about Chamberlin. The only thing I would add about his ability and artistry is the precision of his sticking, unreal hand-feet combinations, and god tier mastery & display of all the rudiments. I had already been playing drums for 15 years when I first saw him perform on the Siamese Dream tour. That led me to do a deep dive and follow his evolution, as well as to seek out a new teacher and resume formal instruction. Hugely influential. And like you mentioned, it’s so great to see him clean and healthy. After Kurt, Layne, and others, I was always dreading the Chamberlin shoe to drop. Thankfully he got himself right, and now playing better than ever. What a gem of a human and monster musician.
  2. UAE Team Emirates Tour squad announced. No surprises: Tadej Pogacar, Adam Yates, Juan Ayuso, Joao Almeida, Marc Soler, Pavel Sivakov, Nils Politt, and Tim Wellens. Barring injury, illness, or other unforeseen calamity to Pogi, the yellow jersey will have been decided well before the final TT in Nice. As the team selections are announced, it will still be interesting to analyze for potential horses in the GC.
  3. Yes, the man who plasters his own name in huge, gilded letters on his buildings is quite the humble servant of God. Doesn’t matter, his followers live the same charade. Theater of political tribalism.

  5. The recovery and fitness of Jonas is certainly the biggest question mark coming into the race. Hard to tell if the team was serious or bluffing about only bringing him to the Tour if he’s in winning form. I’ll surprised if he arrives in top form, but not as surprised if he rides into great form after losing time to Pogi and finishes on the podium. I have mixed feelings about these types of Netflix shows like Drive to Survive and Unchained. I love the sports, but hate the manufactured or enhanced drama like you see in lowest common denominator trash television. Agree Adam Yates deserved more coverage and about Jasper and Ben not coming off great. Not sure if it was on the mark or just a matter of the edit. Loved the Pinot bit. Dude left it all out there and appears to be winning at life.
  6. Visma Lease-a-bike has released their jersey and roster for the Tour. Not sure about that look, but we’ll see how it looks on the riders. They’re bringing Jonas Vingegaard, Wout Van Aert, Matteo Jorgenson, Sepp Kuss, Jan Tratnik, Tiesj Benoot, Christophe Laporte, and Wilco Kelderman. UAE is obviously coming into the Tour with the strongest team, but if Jonas and Wout are both able to come in at good level while continuing to improve, they might have the battle tested horses to keep things interesting.
  7. Saw that in the link and made the mistake of perusing the comments. Don’t do that. Same old FAFO, spandex, impeding the flow nonsense.
  8. That shit looked pretty deliberate to me. Glad no one was killed and glad video cameras are everywhere to capture this crap. Hopefully it will be taken seriously and the driver prosecuted. I, along with two friends, were on a training ride on some barely traveled backroads in rural Tarrant County when we were in high school (86 or 87), and got hit and forced off the road into a steep ditch by some jackass in a pickup. County sheriff’s department refused to take a formal statement, much less actually investigate the incident. They told us and our parents something like, “we don’t patrol these backroads, and there’s bound to be some good ‘ol boys driving around liquored up and not expecting you kids screwing around on fancy bikes out there. Y’all should be more careful.” It’s infuriating that there are still a lot of people who think bicycles have no business on roads and that the cyclists are responsible for inciting road rage from drivers.
  9. I read this the other day and found it saddening and a bit of a shock. I’ve followed Wiggo enough over the years to be aware of his childhood abuse and subsequent demons. Having devoted much of my adult life to advocating for abused and neglected children, and being part of the foster and adoptive communities, I’ve always had a soft spot for these people and became a fan, even though I wasn’t really a fan of Team Sky. From my young adult years playing (badly) in North Texas punk and rock bands, I’m also fond of fellow weirdos, seekers, and all kinds of cool and original fringe people, so when you find these types in the cycling world, it’s easy to be a fan. I’ve seen this outcome for too many people over the years that I care about. I hate it for Wiggo and hope he hasn’t burned too many bridges so as to be left without a solid social support network. What a top bloke and true original.
  10. I don’t think Terry’s actually insane. He just has some celebrity and thus more access to regurgitate the nonsense he’s read. There are unknown and unsung versions of this dude everywhere. It’s good old fashioned egocentric sophistry. Or as we like to say in Texas, “If you can’t dazzle ‘em with brilliance, baffle ‘em with bullshit.”
  11. How can we ever NOT think of this when we see Roglic trying to hang onto a race lead? Just brutal.
  12. (North) America, fuck yeah!
  13. Roglic avoids another jersey losing heartbreak by 8 seconds.
  14. Wow. Great effort, Matty!
  15. Stayed well placed and anticipated that last jump from Roglic. What great progression over the last couple of years.
  16. Them ags love to tell their sip stories. Just wait til November 30th at Kyle Field. By god, I’m really gonna give ‘em something to remember and post about on TexAgs. I’ve been working with a personal trainer to be prepared to strut into Aggieland with a formidable pair of forearms trained to push sweet, old grandmas outta my way and down steps. My level of arrogance and despicable conduct will be told and retold for years. When I’m not pushing sweet Aggy grannies, I’ll be cussin’ aggy children. The most vile, uncivilized, and inappropriate tee yew filth spat out just to land upon the ears of those precious little future cosplay soldiers, farmers, and middle managers. I’ll soldier through the pearl clutching and gasping, the hisses, the “how dare yous” and “well, I nevers,” and probably have to stare down some aggy manlet with a hero complex who will retreat when he gets close enough to see the forearms. I’m gonna show ‘em a level of arrogance that they’ll think only existed in their minds and on their message boards. A loud, swaggering mix of bragging, boasting, cussing, and spitting while mocking BCS and those poooor aggies, and singing the praises of Austin and THE University. I’ll confirm their suspicions of me being the worst kind of sip by stating that I didn’t even graduate from Texas, I’m a tee shirt fan living off the generational wealth of my straight ticket Democrat voting family. Then again, if I did all of that and some aggy made a TexAgs post to bear witness and vent their disgust, the replies would be along the lines of, “Yeah, that’s what they all do. It’s who they are.”
  17. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Lucas address it directly, but it’s clear that the vacuum of space doesn’t exist in the Star Wars galaxy. Space is just a fun backdrop for the storytelling. If your spacecraft breaks in half in space, you’ll be fine and can easily enter the atmosphere of a planet and land safely. You can also casually mill about the open landing bay of a space station with no ill effects. And spaceships absolutely make aircraft type sounds that generate a robust doppler effect when passing another point of reference. The more ridiculous the better.
  18. No kidding. Visma was already limping into the Tour for the first time in a while with the probable expectation (from the outside) of not winning the race. And seeing Remco stay on the deck and Roglic down again sucks.
  19. Yes, just horrible. I hate seeing riders getting carted off and hearing the list of abandons. Even worse leading up to the big loop.
  20. Since the proliferation of Star Wars content really exploded with streaming, I’ve always been pretty patient and forgiving, not expecting anything great. Andor was a nice surprise, and there have been other good moments, especially some stories in The Clone Wars and Rebels. Beyond the movies and series, I’ve read the Thrawn Trilogy and a handful of other EU things back in the day, but I’ve never been obsessive about it and have been able to laugh away the botched sequel trilogy and the incel outrage over clunky and forced diversity. I’ll always give new Star Wars stuff a shot to see where it’s going, and hopefully be surprised by something original and interesting with compelling characters and good writing. That said, what I watched from those first two episodes of The Acolyte was dog shit. I’ve made an effort to stay present and not succumb to the distraction of the phone when watching movies or shows, but 10 minutes into the first episode this thing was already in my hand. Maybe it was watching a Jedi dominating a fight, and all of a sudden couldn’t sense a ruse to distract her and catches a blade to the heart? I know the plot demands that a Jedi has to be killed to put the story into motion, but that’s the best they could come up with? Wookiees are cool, but Jedi Sasquatch? Now they’re just fucking with us. Plenty of other head scratcher and laughable moments followed to the point where morbid curiosity kept me there to watch all of both episodes.
  21. Guess not many following the Dauphiné, but Remco put 40 seconds into Roglic on a 34km ITT on stage 4 today. With Jonas unlikely to be in winning form (if he even shows up to lead Visma), I was, and am, hoping to see Roglic come into July with a realistic shot at pushing Pogi into savage mode and making a great race. Never mind. Pogi lives and sleeps in savage mode. I was hoping not to see another grand tour decided by upwards of ten minutes. I think the TdF window is closed for Roglic and he’ll have to fight for a podium spot in Nice.
  22. “Steinhauser beating off the competition!”
  23. Especially while descending paved roads with painted stripes down high mountain passes.
  24. I’m sure the “Cycling Highlights” YouTube channel will address (savagely skewer) this in their usual sarcastic and hilarious way.
  25. Pure class. After causally riding away off the front and past a few hopefuls to win the stage, he reports to the race leaders cool down and protocol area. 2nd place finisher Guilio Pellizzari approaches Pogi to congratulate him and ask for his pink glasses as a souvenir. Pogi obliges his request and also strips off the Maglia Rosa right there and presents it to Pellizzari.
