  1. Found it. Coworker had a pic of the menu - WhiskyNLadle. Now closed permanently :(. Damn covid.
  2. Looking at a map, it MAY have been Cody's... that matches the street / orientation that I remember. Honestly, the bar doesn't look quite right, but the sign outside does. I'll keep looking.
  3. Also the "I want to be a glutton, but I don't need people KNOWING I'm a glutton. I'll serve myself, thanks."
  4. We were out in La Jolla - dinner was at Herringbone (which was AMAZEBALLS), and the bar was walking distance. I can't seem to track it down on google maps but it was close to Herringbone - the place was more of a restaurant, nice outside patio space, the bar was square and a pretty good size - maybe 10-12 seats along each of the three sides.
  5. Legit licked my monitor. I might be making enchilada's this weekend ...
  6. Without question, the single best business trip I've ever been on was in 2016 to San Diego, to meet with a major tech firm there about some partnership stuff. Had my then-boss with me who was a total badass, and a co-worker that i'm still friends with. Stopped in to a local joint for lunch and a warm-up drink to find Pappy 15 for $35 a pour. Didn't partake at lunch but we dropped a pin on the map. Wrapped up the meeting (crushed it), and made plans for dinner later. Three of us, being from out of town, had no families to go check in with, so at about 4pm we went back to that place. Put three pours down before dinner, had a badass meal with the partner, and then returned to that bar and finished the bottle. Got to talking with the manager and he said that there wasn't a massive demand for bourbon in their sleepy beach suburb, but since he'd been in business for so long his distributor kept him stocked. He priced it so that people would actually drink it, and he loved that we came to his bar three times in nine hours because of it. We also got the deal done, which made the hangover the next day TOTALLY worth it.
  7. Those two things are opposites. Play something softer that doesn't cost you $60/dozen. Bridgestone e5/e6, Titleist Tour Speed (supposed to be $35/doz, we'll see), Callaway ERC Soft or Supersoft. You can sometimes find the Callaway Chromesoft Truvis balls for $35/doz.
  8. And in the process probably having a 35-yard gap between "PW" and his 56deg sand wedge. Drives me fucking insane.
  9. I mean sure, nominate an album that is widely regarded as probably one of the top-5 finest album pressings of all time :). Do you want to add Thriller or the White Album to your list as well? (I keed, I keed).
  10. Honestly, I have a similar relationship with Licensed to Ill. It's not my favorite genre, but damn if I don't just let that album play when I turn it on.
  11. 5 Man Acoustical Jam is a GREAT add.
  12. It's not like we're ever gonna get the chance to play ... unless you book that thing we were talking about.
  13. Exactly what I was going for. Your tastes trend more towards prog-rock than mine, but I can certainly see the "fun quality" in these albums. 1984 is just a rocker, front to back.
  14. This really is the bottom line. I hit probably 100 half wedges the other night; by the end of the session I felt pretty good about it. Went out to play the next day, and it was like I was holding a live snake. Made two bogies and a double on par5s, sitting 2 inside of 100 yards. Fucking hate this game some times.
  15. I know this is a massively subjective subject. What are some good albums that are just full of good fucking songs? I don't want to talk about best "concept" albums (Hi Tommy), or best albums where certain songs "prop up" other songs (looking at you, the whole beatles anthology). I'm curious about albums you can throw on, sing most of the words, and just let it fly without having to track down the "next" button. I'll start, with a few obvious ones. Pearl Jam - Ten. Adele - 21. The Black Crowes - Shake your Moneymaker. Metallica - Black (argument to be made that it's not "old" metallica ... that's not for here) What else? What have I missed?
  16. This isn't hard. Don't count on any LEO to do the right thing, ever. The situation itself is dangerous - don't talk to cops, demand your lawyer at all times, etc. Don't ever EXPECT them to do the right thing, because evidence shows that oftentimes they don't, and the outcomes when they don't are NEVER in your favor. The EV is so incredibly negative that you have to start on the far rail. That said, when they DO the right thing, it's incumbent on us to notice it, to celebrate it, to nourish it in hopes that it propagates. One day, we might be able to change our position on point 1, above.
  17. I ended up not needing it, as the charging is fast enough to complete overnight so I can put the cable away if I'm working in the garage during the day. However, I was going to explore something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Key-Bak-Pro-ToolMate-herramientas-certificado/dp/B077GJ1HS9/ref=pd_bxgy_2/144-8386895-3575355?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B077GJ1HS9&pd_rd_r=50495c1a-3208-4b71-8d7b-211b22b9552a&pd_rd_w=C4eFY&pd_rd_wg=WwsQg&pf_rd_p=ce6c479b-ef53-49a6-845b-bbbf35c28dd3&pf_rd_r=Q97D8HJAD86GGC3F6PRS&psc=1&refRID=Q97D8HJAD86GGC3F6PRS.
  18. That middle Panny is stunning. I have a very well documented bias towards simplicity, so my choice there matches the pattern, but man that thing is pretty. Panny's exude quality.
  19. For $400 (monitor still extra) I'll include a Crucial M550 (512GB) SSD (no OS). This is a great little turnkey box, small form factor, runs cool and quiet, and very gaming-capable.
  20. Moving to a macbook pro, selling my old desktop. AMD Ryzen 2300 ASRock mini-itx "ryzen ready" motherboard (Fatal1ty B450) 16GB DDR4 ram (matched timing for Ryzen) 750w Corsair PSU (overpowered so the fans literally never come on) PowerColor R570 Radeon 4GB graphics card (will play most games at decent frame rates, and anything from ~2018 or so on very high resolutions with no issues) No hard drive, no operating system I can also include a 24" Dell Ultrasharp monitor if you need/want one. This machine runs almost 100% silently, and runs cool (I've had it in a desk drawer). Would make a great first gaming machine for your kids, or even a really solid home theater PC (HTPC). $350 for the computer. $75 for the monitor. I can send you links to each of these parts on newegg if you want more specifics.
