  14. Does your TV not have a mute button? Pretty sure those have been standard on TVs since the 1990s
  15. Naw. It's all about that Larry Holland-style X-Wing/TIE Fighter style piloting. Larry Holland didn't design the games past X-Wing Alliance, but Squadrons follows a lot of the design decisions of Holland's games -- power management, shield balancing, etc -- and has a very similar feel. If you want a modern TIE Fighter game, that's pretty much the game to play. Only thing missing from it is the ability to swap how the blasters fire -- you could switch between individual bolts, dual bolts, and (on X-Wings/TIE Interceptors) quad bolts firing at the same time; on Squadrons, you get one shot per blaster period, and all blasters at once -- so e.g. on the B-Wing the Ion and Blaster cannons all fire at the same time, and as far as I can tell there's no way to just use the ions or blasters. I don't even care to play real flight simulators. I just wanna lock s-foils in attack position and go blow up a Star Destroyer
  16. why the fuck are they even reviewing this it was obvious
  17. So, I live in San Diego, but (obviously) grew up in Texas. A friend of mine passed away this year* and he was a UNT alumnus. Of course, he never referred to them as the Eagles or the Mean Green; he called them the Buzzards, because they were even worse than we were in the late 80's/early 90's when we went to college. So. Go Buzzards! beat the snot out of the stupid sdsu aztecs...and sdsu just caught an interception goddammit *Clinical Depression finally got the best of him. Blew his own brains out. Please seek help if you're feeling it. I have it on mute.
  18. Yeah, VR headsets aren't my thing. I don't mind playing with my son's, but he's really complaining about the Oculus 3, and hoping to sell it and eventually upgrade to the latest Steam thing when it comes out.
  19. I mean, that's 100% it. The site adapts to most of our weirdnesses, and the really weird ones adapt to the site as it is. Nothing about the UI is so awful that people will stop hanging out here, much as we'd like some of us to just fuck off... (Obviously not you. That's why I use the ignore feature.)
  20. The biggest issue was that they released it, then about 6 months in, abandoned it. But it's not entirely EA's fault -- the number of players dropped off a cliff within a week of its release. For whatever reasons, it was a pretty failed product. But playing with HOTAS is an entirely upgraded experience from playing it with a mouse or controller. Now there's a big learning curve to having to map all of the controls, learn how to use them, and then after that you've gotta figure out why it crashes to desktop 4 out of every 5 times you try to launch it*, but once you're in the game and playing? It's AWESOME. *still don't know why
  21. ok fuck it the real problem with @TreatyOak 's post isn't that he's wrong, it's that he's not going far enough we shouldn't just opt out of the bowl game, we should opt out of the regular season altogether face it, we started this year ranked #1, and dropped out of that position after one game, never to regain it. OBVIOUSLY, the best situation is to just not play any games and retain that ranking up to the end of the season then, we won't get a first round bye, but we won't have any injuries and we'll be fresh and rested for the final game "wait Rimbo, this all sounds fucking amazing and realistic, but don't we have to win our way through the playoffs, too?" naw fuck that shit we're riding that preseason ranking all the way to the title game. And then we get a bye on that one, too I'm telling ya, we'll be the first team to win it all without playing a single fucking game. It'll be MARVELOUS
