You can't rebuild something you slowly tore down in the first place.
I didn't hate Mack. I wanted to wish him well. But the intervening years have shown the true prophecy in the immortal words of texlarry, "I'm stunned. I'm pissed. It's Mack Brown."
From his "nice guy"act being just that -- an act, to the poor decisions he made prior to the 2004 season, to the bad decisions he made after 2009... That MNC in 05 has more to do with Dick Tomey's all-too-brief influence than anything Mack did right. Remember that Mack didn't even want Vince; he had to be convinced by Brewster to do it, and after that, they had to lose a lot of games before Gerg would start calling plays that worked to his strengths.
Even our OL in '05 was lightning in a bottle. We had an OL coach that could recruit but couldn't develop in Nunez, replaced by one who could develop but couldn't recruit in McWhorter; 2005 was McWhorter having had a few years training up Nunez's guys.
And outside of those years, you saw Texas doing less with more at best; in the waning years, he was doing less with less. The times were MOSTLY frustrating. Even our frustrations with Sark now pale in comparison to what we had to live with back then.
What y'all like is the myth of Mack Brown, colored by forgetfulness of the bad and over emphasis on the good.
