  1. This must be a very triggering time for you. I’m sorry about your previous exposure to toxic events
  2. No. In order to have a deterrent, they can't let anybody find out they used them all.
  3. I don't know man. I said I just went with the first numbers I saw from a quick google search. Looking again, I still don't know what the answer actually is. Obviously 100 wouldn't kill every person on the planet immediately, but the fallout and other effects globally from that many bombs would keep killing for a very long time.
  4. Just went with the first number I saw online. 3% of their nuclear arsenal is still 134 nuclear bombs. I think the estimate is that you'd only need about 100 nukes to essentially destroy the entire world
  5. I'm no military genius, but I'd imagine air defense systems work a lot better if they aren't under a roof.

  9. I used the term "UN peacekeepers" as a general point of reference. What I really meant was just some trained troops who were able to operate the best systems we (or other allies) have. But atomheart made me realize a valid argument against it. In my scenario, where such participation would only be in civilian areas, that doesn't really provide a robust enough network to ensure their safety. Russia would certainly try to overrun those positions with a shit ton of missiles, and they'd eventually be successful. That wouldn't play well here. Plus, I assume there are plenty of veteran volunteers over there already lending a hand with these things.
  10. The article mentions previous outbreaks, the biggest being 252 people in Angola. That one was 90% fatal, but another article that goes into it a bit more seems to indicate that there was little to no medical care available for most of the outbreak.
  11. A fatality rate of 23-90% is quite broad
  12. Something I hadn’t really thought about before, but now I can’t think of any good reason we aren’t doing it. What’s the justification for not sending in something like UN peacekeepers to man AD systems, particularly in civilian areas? This would be purely defensive and wouldn’t have anything to do with protecting military assets of Ukraine, or at least it could be sold that way. Or is that not really something they need? Is the real problem that they just don’t have enough systems in place rather than a lack of training?

  14. Apparently a weird medical condition she's had since her mid-teens
  15. As the tweet says, it appears we may be creating a stockpile. So, when we decide to send more, it'll only take a few days to put them in the field.
  16. Damnit. This must've been a hell of a video. Anybody able to find it elsewhere? Or at least tell me what kind of awesomeness I missed?
  17. It's been stated repeatedly over the last week or so by us, Zelenskyy, and Moldovan officials. So, no, not a surprise to anyone.

  20. They said the first ballon was at a high enough altitude that it wasn’t worth the risk of shooting down because there was basically zero risk in letting it do it’s thing. They did briefly mention that they were using the opportunity to study the balloon. The last few have been in the same zone that commercial air traffic flies so it’s a pretty different situation that warrants a risk analysis. That being said, I think the admin is kind of forced to shoot anything down now that everyone is watching.
