  1. We raise tariffs even higher and threaten to make them the 52nd, 53rd, 54th, ... states? Whatever it takes.
  2. I listened to that episode and at one point she was discussing the story about Warren Buffet paying more in taxes (by percentage points) than his secretary. I think the economist misspoke, or misunderstood, something about the comparison. I think the core of the argument is taxes on salary for the middle class (the secretary) is higher than taxes on dividends or long term capital gains for the rich (Warren). But this distinction was not addressed and she dismissed the anecdote. I became less enthused about the episode after that.
  3. Not that I would rent such a thing, ever. But if I did I would 100% be sure to get full insurance coverage on it. One would be a fool not to do so.
  4. This was for voter registration purposes, not voting at the polls.
  5. Trumps EO mandating documented proof of citizenship excludes birth certificates and non-REAL ID drivers licenses. Passports are OK though. If only US citizens with passports voted I feel confident that this last election would have turned out far differently.
  6. Jokes on them. The vast majority of Greenlanders live on the other side of the island. Given the level of intelligence (or sobriety) of the people involved, I refuse to completely rule out the validity of this document.
  7. We've visited friends in Germany a couple of times and they were quite excited about visiting us in California. Their daughters had never been to the US. All of those plans were cancelled after the election and the resulting chaos. That's one small anecdote, but I suspect it represents one data point in a much larger trend.
  8. Partner countries in USAID co-development projects want to know where their money is. Calls are not being returned.
  9. Delaware North is privately owned and kind of owned part of Yosemite National Park a few years back. They were the company contracted to run concessions in the park such as the Ahwahnee Hotel. They got replaced by some other company when the contract was rebid. Turns out, DN trademarked Ahwahnee and other names of property it did not own while operating the sites. For a time the park had to rename its own property to avoid lawsuits. The Ahwahnee was called the Majestic Yosemite Hotel during this time. When my wife and I visited the park a few years back we were going to visit a restaurant in one of the large hotels outside of the park near where we were staying. It looked great. We pulled up and saw it was owned by Delaware North. We turned around at the entrance and left. Fuck those guys.
  10. I watched both of my parents die before my eyes in the hospital at separate times. In both cases I had travelled across the country to be with them and in both cases they passed away later on the very same day I arrived in town. It's a bit creepy, but I did get to say goodbye to both of them, which is something.
  11. Limited ceasefire deal agreed to in principal. Sort of. Emphasis seems to be on a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure. I think this means Ukrainian attacks on Russia's oil infrastructure must have had good effect. More to gain for Russia with this focus, I'll bet. Secondly, I saw elsewhere the Russian language release contained additional Ukrainian concessions not mentioned in the US release. Namely, a halt to foreign aid to and intelligence gathering for Ukraine. Seems "win-win", for Putin-Russia. Not so much Ukraine.
  12. True, he has not yet reached out to grab any new territory. But there is a sizable Hungarian speaking population in Zakarpattia Oblast in western Ukraine that Orbán has agitated for before. IF Russia were ever to dismantle Ukraine you can bet that Orbán would get his piece of the pie for his fealty to Putin. He's just not in a position to do anything about at this time.
  13. Not going to happen with today's prices.
  14. Elmo visits the NSA unannounced and has some ideas on how to revamp it. What could go wrong? God help us.
  15. Because some chumps like me will file their taxes faithfully anyway I guess. Someone has to pay for TFG's new Tesla.
  16. Thank you Mr. President for protecting us from, checks notes, female hikers from Germany who have peacefully visited the US multiple times in the past. If we're going to be militant (and wrong even!) about visa fraud can we do Musk next?
  17. Was there, or wasn't there, a shark nearby to provide an option on how to die?
  18. Europe is planning on moving forward without the US. I can't blame them. We are no longer the indispensable country.
  19. The $55.6 billion was for overall economic impact, not direct National Park Service revenue. With that nit picking out of the way, it changes nothing. I don't give a rat's ass if the NPS is "profitable" or not in their own books. The NPS is a national treasure and should be treated as such.
  20. Pissing off our allies and destroying our military export market to own the libs. So much winning. Germany, and others, consider backing out of F-35 orders because of the concern that you know who could withhold parts/service or outright disable (whether that's really possible or not) systems. In other words, the US is no longer to be trusted. I can't blame that line of reasoning at all. The Euro Fighter might not be as good as US aviation but it's better than Russian crap. And it won't be subject to the whims of TFG. I'll bet Saab is looking into replacing the jet engine in Gripens for similar reasons. It's stunning to see partnerships built over 70+ years of generally positive cooperation being blown to bits in just 50 days.
  21. So the Vance family has some redeeming qualities after all. The Vance Thanksgiving gathering is going to be lit!
  22. Surely the US Secretary of State knows that Russia is already on the border with Poland, right? But maybe I assume too much.
  23. Looks like they left out Latvia in 1940 and East Germany in 1953 as well. So many countries being mean to Russia over the years. Thank you, JD?
  24. What could go wrong? At least that plane wasn't WOKE. I think we can safely say that the US has yielded that title. I never thought such a thing was possible.
