That ain’t wrong. We invited friends and family from several countries to come visit for the World Cup - planning on renting houses, showing them a Texas good time, all that.
They are already being negatively impacted by this admin (see post above about revoked school admission). They are justifiably nervous about coming here.

We've visited friends in Germany a couple of times and they were quite excited about visiting us in California.  Their daughters had never been to the US.  All of those plans were cancelled after the election and the resulting chaos.  That's one small anecdote, but I suspect it represents one data point in a much larger trend.

There's a better than 100% chance that some sort of PE firm ends up functionally owning at least one -- probably more than one -- of our national parks within the next couple of years....as just one example of the giant shit sandwich we're all going to keep eating.

Delaware North is privately owned and kind of owned part of Yosemite National Park a few years back.  They were the company contracted to run concessions in the park such as the Ahwahnee Hotel.  They got replaced by some other company when the contract was rebid.  Turns out, DN trademarked Ahwahnee and other names of property it did not own while operating the sites.  For a time the park had to rename its own property to avoid lawsuits.  The Ahwahnee was called the Majestic Yosemite Hotel during this time.

When my wife and I visited the park a few years back we were going to visit a restaurant in one of the large hotels outside of the park near where we were staying.  It looked great.  We pulled up and saw it was owned by Delaware North.  We turned around at the entrance and left.  Fuck those guys.

  3. Limited ceasefire deal agreed to in principal.  Sort of.  Emphasis seems to be on a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure.  I think this means Ukrainian attacks on Russia's oil infrastructure must have had good effect.  More to gain for Russia with this focus, I'll bet.

Secondly, I saw elsewhere the Russian language release contained additional Ukrainian concessions not mentioned in the US release.  Namely, a halt to foreign aid to and intelligence gathering for Ukraine.

Seems "win-win", for Putin-Russia.  Not so much Ukraine.

    Orbán.

True, he has not yet reached out to grab any new territory.  But there is a sizable Hungarian speaking population in Zakarpattia Oblast in western Ukraine that Orbán has agitated for before.  IF Russia were ever to dismantle Ukraine you can bet that Orbán would get his piece of the pie for his fealty to Putin.  He's just not in a position to do anything about at this time.

Not going to happen with today's prices.

Why doesn't Trump just say the IRS isn't going to collect any income taxes at all?

Because some chumps like me will file their taxes faithfully anyway I guess.  Someone has to pay for TFG's new Tesla.

  7. Thank you Mr. President for protecting us from, checks notes, female hikers from Germany who have peacefully visited the US multiple times in the past.

If we're going to be militant (and wrong even!) about visa fraud can we do Musk next?

  8. Pissing off our allies and destroying our military export market to own the libs.  So much winning.

Germany, and others, consider backing out of F-35 orders because of the concern that you know who could withhold parts/service or outright disable (whether that's really possible or not) systems.  In other words, the US is no longer to be trusted.  I can't blame that line of reasoning at all.

The Euro Fighter might not be as good as US aviation but it's better than Russian crap.  And it won't be subject to the whims of TFG.  I'll bet Saab is looking into replacing the jet engine in Gripens for similar reasons.

It's stunning to see partnerships built over 70+ years of generally positive cooperation being blown to bits in just 50 days.

Surely the US Secretary of State knows that Russia is already on the border with Poland, right?

Looks like they left out Latvia in 1940 and East Germany in 1953 as well.  So many countries being mean to Russia over the years.

Jack Smith was appointed in 2023, and not in 2020. Appeals in all of turnip’s cases were not handled as expeditiously as humanly possible. And a failed coup ringleader was allowed on ballots and was elected leader of the free world

I think we can safely say that the US has yielded that title.  I never thought such a thing was possible.

Does this not only apply to payments for contracts already fulfilled?

What would investors think about the "full faith and credit of the United States government" when faced with a regime that just decides not to pay what is owed?

Shit.  I heard the local meteorologist mention a radar being out of commission and I didn't for a moment think anything about it.  I was still under the impression that I lived in a first world nation and such things are but minor blip that would quickly be rectified and full coverage would return in short order.  Fuck this regime!

Nice.  But it's very likely that all purchases going forward should be for European/South Korean hardware.  It's possible TFG is going to refuse to sell parts for this and other American equipment in the near future and preclude our "allies" from doing the same.

It is pretty much down to this.  The nut-cutting time will be when the US military is ordered to take military action against one of our historical allies -- Canada, France, the UK.  The odds of that happening are skyrocketing.  Then, our troops will have to decide whether they can and should shoot to kill men and women they trained and fought with side-by-side just months ago.  Or, will they act to protect and defend the Constitution, and take action against the foreign state actor in the White House.

We're getting there.  We're getting there faster than even I suspected.

You mean Brisketexan underestimated how bad things would be?

I would not be 100% surprised if Australia pulls out of the AUKUS deal and approaches the French again about their subs.  Why on Earth would a nation so firmly tie its self defense to a country with a Trump presidency?  His mercurial nature and his Russian slant is a toxic soup of uncertainty and risk that no sane nation should rely on.  The stakes are too high.

The United States has become the Twitter of countries.  Anyone looking for their BlueSky countries?
