How does this even happen?  One assumption I've always had when reading about gerrymandering is it is done specifically to help republicans.  Maybe this does help them out overall but I was surprised to see this district was represented by Dogett who is a D.

An example of the technique of packing.  The other is cracking.  Lots of good examples out there how gerrymandering can extremely skew representation.  Wikipedia has a few examples as well.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerrymandering

Are there good cases to be made for gerrymandering?  The voting rights act has been cited in the past in trying to craft districts where minorities are more likely to get a seat at the table, so to speak.  But the current state of affairs has made it clear that attempting to allow a technique for "good" reasons opens up Pandora's box to a whole lot of shit.

Political districts should never be drawn up by the politicians.

We're headed for a recession unless Trump takes a 180 pretty soon right?

We're headed for a recession no matter who does what.  It will happen.  No one knows the exact details.

What we all know is that when it happens Trump will blame Obama and the Democrats.  That is certain.

  3. Perhaps the most significant question is, did it work?  Sadly, I think the answer is no.

I was not actually watching the game at that point and my wife pointed out that some people had run onto the field stopping play.  She indicated that the cameras eventually were turned away from the folks on the field so as not to encourage such antics in the future.  Thus, chances of getting a message out were neutralized.  Neither she nor I had any idea there was a political message behind the ploy until I read this article.

So for all those whom would argue Trump didn’t really mean for Russia to find the emails, when he said as candidate for POTUS, that he hopes they find the missing emails, how do they reconcile those beliefs when they go off about the FBI texts between folks having an affair and how that wasn’t just shitty pillow talk but they really meant to take down Trump. Can’t have it both ways.

Pillow talk?  Is that like locker room talk?  That's only allowed for one side apparently.

Have you seen the travel doc made by Michael Palin when he traveled Eastern Europe in 2006? He makes a brief stop in Transnistria and it seemed like an absolute clusterfuck already back then.

I have not seen it, but will look.  I have read an article or two about the area and it consistently ranks as the most miserable part of Europe.

So, if Russia follows the same playbook in Estonia they've utilized in Crimea, Ukraine and Georgia then Trump turns a blind eye.  Great.

And Estonia is one of the NATO allies that actually does spend more than 2% of GDP on defense.  Right now.

I forgot to mention Transnistria (Moldova) as well.  But Putin's fine, we're told.

If Russia invades Estonia today, then yes Trump rushes to defend them.  Russia is invited to help Estonian freedom fighters win control of the country from their oppressive, illegal leaders?  No Trump stays away.

    ^ This is awesome.

Excellent.  If FoxNews had more stuff like this on the air I'd have to change my opinion of it.  Too bad it's more the exception that proves the rule.

On another note, back in the Dubya years, CNN's strategy was to tack toward the middle. They knew they were outflanked by MSNBC and Fox on the left and right. They hit on a bold strategy: "Since we are nobody's choice, we'll be everybody's milquetoast!" The goal was to get viewers in departure lounges, waiting rooms, corporate cafeterias, fancy elevators, etc.

It concerns me that people have this notion that one has to pick a side, left or right.  Believing that to choose a moderate stance in the middle is a dereliction of duty on the part of the citizen is killing this country.  Fewer people in the sane center these days I fear.

  10. A CEO of a publicly traded company may have a shot.  Those types of positions require a certain level of political acuity in dealing with a large number of investors who sometimes want different things from the person at the top.

The head of a family company with effectively no shareholders is a completely different type of animal.  There are essentially no shareholders, at least not any outside of the family.  The CEO of that entity can rule as a tyrant with little danger of being deposed.  Should it be a surprise that such an individual, when transitioning to public office, might attempt to apply the same conditions to their new role?

Lol if you believe this.  No evidence to support they’re denuking, in fact there’s more historical evidence that indicates they ain’t doing shit.

They got everything they wanted and more already.  There is no incentive for them to denuclearize now.

South Korea is also in a worse position if things go south.

I see what you did here.

To be fair, there are multiple murals of different Presidents in that WalMart.  Trump's quote is the most alarming, though.

They should get rid of all of them.  And I've always been a bit spooked by the eery Presidential photos that loom behind an Ambassador's desk or in other official federal locations.  Iconoclast the shit out of all of them.  They serve the country.  Put a damn flag up.  Save some money by not having to get something new framed every 4-8 years.

I just had a chilling thought. What if this is a return to out Latin American policies of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s?

Set up an autocrat who welcomes American corporations to exploit their resources and markets. The autocrat gets huge kickbacks, CIA protection, and death squad/torture training in Georgia.

    Good times.

Wait.  Are we talking about US policies with respect to other nations of the past, or are we talking about the US itself in the present and near future?

It's like a football game where the other team gets to hold with impunity, gets to chop-block every play, gets to trip, clip, etc.

I thought this was the politics board, not the Big 12 officiating thread.

how the heck did TN Tch get so much talent??

I was hoping someone on the coverage would address this.  Having one or two guys hit lights out can be luck of the draw in recruiting talent.  Having the entire lineup hit over .300 is confounding.  Yeah, their conference is not a Big 5 conference, but their batting abilities don't seem to be settling down too much now that they're going against larger schools.

I kept asking, who is their batting coach, and how much does he make?

While the media is focused on Pruitt, the real billionaires like Devos and Wilbur Ross are probably landing some sweet international deals & pump and dumping stocks on inside information.

Seriously, just think about the money that could be made by pumping Trump full of stories of unfair trade practices in the steel industry.  Buy American companies and short European ones right before his "executive time" on the toilet the next morning when he fires off an irrational tweet about impending steel tariffs.

  19. And now the administration has pre-existing conditions in its crosshairs.  Don't think about switching jobs or insurance companies in the future guys.  Keep that nose to the grindstone just where you are now.  Know your place.

According to the article even 59% of Republicans support protection for people with pre-existing conditions.  But I suspect those low level R's aren't donating enough to make their voice heard.

With the#metoo movement going on now yeah I agree with your point, and with Hillary losing that doesn't help either.   His recent comments (pretty laze' faire/ fuck you  IMO) about the Lewinsky affair aren't gong to help his reputation IMO.

    Laissez-faire

Sorry, really sorry.  I could not resist.
