  1. I mean they have fucking papers and all, but I wouldn’t rent them shoes or anything.
  2. It’s the “Get Woke” dialogue that has the ability and capacity to reach the “unwoken” and those that think they are but don’t get shit. Or I could be 5 bourbons past inebriation.
  3. As an adult, I have never felt the need to own a flag for whatever reason. Bought one today out of nowhere and it’s going up tomorrow. Boots Riley, Tribe Called Quest, Run the Jewels and Public Enemy playing at max volume on the deck until Chapelle goes on. May have bought an offensive amount Gritty gear, but fuck it. Old Forrester Prohibition to bring it home. Hook’em
  4. That may be how it works out for your teachers, but our school was very explicit with how in person would be. This included sending two follow up emails with details. The kids will essentially be in the same room as the teacher, but the teacher will be teaching to the screen/virtual learners. The kids will respond and get called on through the virtual platform and not directly. No additional instruction will be done in the asynchronous time, but the teachers will be available during office hours. The teachers have to stay at the front and can’t even walk around checking the kids work. The kids are supposed to stay at their desks and work on their devices. Additionally, since our kids are in an immersion program, they have different teachers for each half of the day. The teachers can’t change classrooms. So in the second half of the day - they would be sitting with a teacher teaching a Zoom class to other kids while the teacher they are on with is in the room next door. I know this isn’t just a bad set of teachers. This set of teachers have been fantastic from the beginning. We had emails during Spring Break with schedules/zoom meeting info and assignments. They are setting up in person check ins every Saturday for two grades of students in the room mom’s driveway. There they collect some assignments, connect with the students and parents, and hand out cookies/books/next weeks handouts. That is where we got the feedback on in person instruction. I completely understand if both parents are working that it’s the only route that makes sense. As much as I know the Kinder needs to go back, that setup sounds like a shit show designed to fail for both him and the teachers. It’s a pain to keep 4 kids (especially Kinder) from unplugging their headphones, spilling shit all over the place, not having a meltdown - that I can’t imagine trying to manage that and instruct at the same time. At least now, they are able to see a couple of friends, help each other with work and my wife gets a couple of hours off a day to get other shit done. It sure as fuck is better than the Spring. Good luck to all as you start week 3. One week closer to in person, no matter what.
  5. Some of the pod kids had some trouble logging in this morning but most were okay. Sounds like it was pretty widespread and AISD just sent out an email. Didn’t expect the kids to be cold during September “garage school”. Boiling some water for tea, but it doesn’t help that all the kids have zero body fat. The in-person survey is due tonight. I was all gung-ho on returning and was under the impression that in person elementary was going to be like before but with spacing/masks/no room changes. It looks instead like some sort of futuristic re-education camp with all learning on tablets/no additional instruction during asynchronous time/plexiglass desk domes. The teachers we have spoken to and have a long relationship with have told us unofficially that if possible to keep the kids remote. The setup we have will be better for them and they actually get to play/interact with one another. Also, it gives planning time to the teachers during asynchronous and keeps them from continuously interrupting their instruction to keep the kids at their desks/masks on/etc. Also, recess sounds like a clusterfuck. Either way, the decision is a shit sandwich.
  6. First week of garage schools pod is in the books. Pour a tall one and light ‘em if you got ‘em. One week closer to in person We're gonna have a good dayAnd all my homies gonna ride todayAnd all these mommies look fly todayAnd all we wanna do is get by todayHeyyyWe're gonna have a good dayAnd ain't nobody gotta cry today'Cause ain't nobody gonna die todayYou save that drama for another dayHeyyy we're gonna have a good day
  7. 4 kinders and 4 second graders in our garage for the pod. It’s going about as well as could be expected. Some video slow downs until we got people on the right network. The second graders seem to have their shit down. Kinders are kinder. They are having some free time between assignments and my wife is trying to tune the audio for the young ones, so it now sounds like a huge ass party at the house. Not sure how sustainable this will be, but damn the torpedoes for now.
  8. Leonid What's-His-Name, Herman Munster, motorcade, Birthday party, Cheetos, Pogo sticks and lemonade, Symbiotic stupid jerks, That's right, Flanders, I am talkin' about you!

  10. So you thought you Might like to go to the show
  11. Was at Far West and Mopac. The kids looked at me after they passed with a WTF face. They were ready to get back to playing in the backyard. I don’t blame them as I was ready to get back to work.
  12. Is this on an absolute or relative scale? When my 7 yo writes a story for class, I don’t get mad that it’s not Shakespeare.
  13. Italy’s death toll rose today to its highest so far 919. Previous high was last Saturday at 793. So, that sucks.
  14. Fake news. We are not all fat. Just the overwhelming big-boned majority who claim that if they lost a single pound their respective other would send them to an oncologist.
  15. This is why I have been drinking George T Stagg instead of water for the past month. Because science.
  16. I never realized he wrote the novel Viva Max! I’m going to have to give it a read, as the movie was pretty solid.
  17. A 17 minute David Lynch film was just put on Netflix, What Did Jack Do?. The cast includes Lynch, a monkey, a chicken and a waitress who has a line or two. The film’s synopsis reads “In a locked down train station, a homicide detective conducts an interview with a tormented monkey.” It is as advertised.
