  1. Really surprised the ducks didn't notice that the decoy was attached to a vehicle. Not to mention one that had a shotty mounted on the side!!
  2. This weather is bullshit.
  3. Had a good afternoon yesterday. Hit the stand after the rain subsided...really enjoyed the cooler / drier air. Deer were moving like I've never seen in the bottoms. Great to see the action! Bucks were on the does. Mostly on what looked like the younger does (possibly this years?). This young man showed up and gave me a show. He would not leave this one doe. They criss crossed my field 3-4 times before disappearing into the woods. I originally put him at a damn good 2.5 based on neck / body size, but think he's 3.5 after further assessment (mostly from disbelief that a 2.5 can grow horns like that). I'm guessing 17-18" inside and will be a beast if he makes it a few years. Sorry for the poor quality photo / vid....I might have been shaking a little 66155291593__403CD446-497F-4295-82ED-68BA17690423 (1).MOV
  4. That was my line of thinking. Recognizing pictures can be deceiving, my first thought was "thick, mature buck". My dad said he studied him for a good big and just didn't think he was a shooter. I feel like he missed the mark on this one. And yes, low fence. Same same! This is a point of debate with my dad. He said on the hoof, he was guessing 17-18" maximum. I said hell no....and honestly, can't figure out how he got to those numbers. Recognizing potential distortion...I just started analyzing the feeder. TDIL that 55 gallon steel drums are 23" in diameter. Now...take another look at that deer (and note the fact that he's actually standing ever so slightly behind it).
  5. Dad saw this one come in checking for the Big P. Image quality sucks (old iphone & 150 yds away), but curious to get Surly's estimates on size of this deer.
  6. Weather is making its way through. Anybody else itching to get back in the field?
  7. More like we tossed out the old flour that had weevils in it, and replacing it with some organic superfood that's power fuel for the body.
  8. I don’t see much similarity there, honestly. New buck has more of a basket, with better tine length on G2 and his G4s are more “claw” style than vertical. All tines come back to center moreso than the previous buck also. I feel like the new guy is a different gene pool…one which I actually prefer. Really good looking frame.
  9. Humblebrag - I privately guessed 140-145. I bet he looked amazing on the hoof. I hope to slay his father this weekend. Let the December rut begin...
  10. All this CFS talk is for the poors. This is Texas. Let's get these boys some fried short ribs at Jack Allens!
  11. No wonder my house design is taking forever.... it's hunting season. I should've known better. Gorgeous rack on that one. Turned out very nice.
  12. So, a black dildo (no racist) that's only 7"?
  13. "Can't comment right now, chewing on a dick at the moment..."
  14. Might consider a 300 BLK. I rebuilt my Rem 7 223 in 300 BLK and it's amazing. Low recoil with a bit more energy on impact. Seems a good option for the kids. I was a bit small when I started hunting. I used a 218Bee. Anybody ever shot one of those? Can't really find them around much anymore.
  15. Our family owns land that borders Eastman's property, which as I understand it, is bow hunt only. Ours is not restricted.
  16. Great evening in the Tally Bottoms off of the Sabine River in NE Texas. No shots fired, but enjoyed watching this young man grunt and chase a few ladies around. Rut is in full effect….hoping this one makes it 3 more years.
  17. I dealt with a similar situation last year. A family member (somewhat close to me) took a deer I had already clearly articulated as "young and prime for growth"....really frustrated me that they didn't respect the opportunity of the future. Either way, I just ended up not even wanting to hunt....not sure if it was COVID or the deer situation, but damned if it didn't affect my emotions in a lot of ways. Just seemed as if there was no logic being considered. Unlike you, I can't just not speak with them, they are part of my core family unit. Frustrating as fuck!! Hoping you were able to start educating folks a bit. I have had zero success. Their age isn't helping....their ability to assess is getting worse as they creep well into their 70's.
  18. My first thought: Evolved to this:
  19. Didn't read all the dribble; however, curious about how many players have hit the portal. What's the O/U on the count? Let's clean fucking house!
  20. Lots of activity this weekend. We ended up with 5 hogs and 4 deer (3 does down + 1 mature cull). Best time was around the campfire Friday night though. Hill country stars were shining brightly and the coyotes were singing us a tune. Great weekend with the family…hope you fellas got some time to disconnect a bit.
  21. WTF - is it offseason already? Expected way more emotion from Surly. This is TEXAS!
  22. Good call. The weather should be perfect for fishing.
  23. Went out to Doss to prep this weekend. Gorgeous damn weather. Couple of small hogs fell victim to the 300BO Rem7. Blackey showed up 15 seconds before the feeder went off, as if he'd been there before. Freckles came in with a group of females / piglets about 10 mins after I put one through the ticker of Blackey. They both ran downhill about 40 yds and expired within 20 ft of each other. (note: exit wound on Freckles...angled towards me)
  24. So we will win?
