  1. Is this the same 3500 that were put on furlough last week? Or does HAL just like to do layoffs in groups of 3500.
  2. I can’t wait for aggy to heroically and singlehandedly save us from the corona virus. Luckily we already know they’ll do it which allows cowardly sips such as myself to sit at home.
  3. If I had to choose a horse in this race I think that I may go with Russia. US shale drillers are facing a wave of bankruptcies no matter what. There will be massive consolidation / reorganization with most private equity backed companies disappearing. The “buy and flip” model that has been popular over the past 6-8 years is over. That leaves OPEC vs Russia. Both rely heavily on O&G revenues for government budgets with breakeven most likely higher than the current market price. The difference is that Saudi Arabia in particular needs the revenue for massive social spending and subsidies that keeps the population from uprising against the royal family. It’s no secret that KSA is the epicenter of the Salafi jihadist movement and based on MbS recent string of arrests for “treason”, it looks like plenty of powerful people in the royal family / military / intelligence groups are not happy. Russia, on the other hand, seems to be almost completely united behind Putin. They have also endured far, far worse suffering than whatever low oil prices will bring. They have a pretty good record in wars of attrition.
  4. Looks like we should go ahead and add him to the list of guys who were average on our DL and go on to shine in the NFL. Fuck you Todd Orlando.
  5. So if self deprecating humor is part of Jewish culture (it is, right?) then isn’t Mr. Wrencher denying the student’s identity? Is this cultural appropriation? Which is the more significant crime? The PC crowd needs to release a list of offenses and rank them to that we know who to rule for in these situations.
  6. Maybe the third or fourth to arrive, second-to-last to leave.
  7. Ping G400 10.5* dialed back to 9.6*, Alta CB stiff Ping G400 14.5* 3 wood, Alta CB stiff Ping G400 19* hybrid, Alta CB stiff Mizuno JPX 850 Forged 4-PW, True Temper XP105 stiff Wilson Harmonized 50/08 Wilson Harmonized 56/12 Wilson Harmonized 60/10 Odyssey O-Works 7S Black ... Definitely looking to replace the wedges ($30 each on Amazon). I’m looking for something “blade-like” without a big sole and with relatively low bounce. I really like the look of the Ping Glide Forged but they’re pretty pricy. Also considering the Cleveland RTX-4. Any advice is appreciated.
  8. The miracle should have occurred last year. When it became obvious that LB was going to be a weakness we should have shifted the scheme to let the DL handle outside contain, rush the passer, etc. Orlando is too dumb to adjust to anything.
  9. And a guy coaching for his job at USC this year hired Orlando to install the same scheme.
  10. They weren’t biased at first. They became biased in mid-January.
  11. Agree completely. Especially with the playground on the east side of Heights, there needs to be something more than a “DIY” pedestrian crossing. One of the traffic signals that occasionally shuts down the road on both directions when someone presses the cross button would be perfect. Like the one on South Lamar / Oltorf in Austin.
  12. His big issue last year was terrible scoring on Saturday and Sunday. The way this tournament played out for him was perfect. No rounds over par, low score for the day on Sunday, Top 10 finish. Maybe this is the year he finally gets his 12th win.
  13. In this context I was comparing it to the “new” Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar which is really just an appendage of another soulless apartment / condo complex. But point taken - that was before my time.
  14. I guess we can’t all be old turds lamenting the arrival of running water.
  15. I was born and raised in Austin. Will be turning 33 pretty soon. I struggle to come up with a single even that marked the change but the completion of the Frost Tower seems like a good enough landmark. I also wouldn’t discount the 2005 national championship. Obviously it was an incredible event for the university and everyone who posts on this site but it also put a huge national spotlight on UT and Austin that probably accelerated the huge influx of immigration into the city. I agree with other posters that you can’t “pause” a city - it has to grow and evolve to survive. But the new Austin isn’t for me. I prefer to remember it for what it was in the 90s and 00s and build a life elsewhere (outside of 6-7 Saturdays in the fall). Other places that I was sad to see go: - Players on MLK - Nau’s in west campus (and the destruction of every non-6-story apartment block complex) - Pok E Joes on 5th (food wasn’t the best, but I still loved it) - The original Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar I could go on...
  16. VY’s pro career was glorious compared to JFF. As was his college career. And high school.
  17. I think he’s faded from the public consciousness to the point that it wouldn’t really move the needle on ticket sales.
  18. He was on the all decade team!!1!
  19. I finally played all 18 holes of the redesigned Memorial Park course in Houston today. The previous two rounds ended after 15 holes due to darkness. Played from the white tees which measure 6553 yards. First hole is a par 5, 512 yards. Striped my driver down the center of the fairway about 275 yards. A lot of times I will lay up par 5s even when I have the “right” club in the bag for the second shot, but this time I decided to go for it. Pulled my 3 wood from the bag and hit a perfect arcing draw onto the green. Of course, I followed it up with a 3-putt par (blech). Still a good start to the round. Ended up carding a 47-45 with one birdie on the par 5 14th. I actually reached that one in 2 also (480 yards from the tee) and two putted from about 40 feet. The new course is very different from the old course. Previously there were over 50 bunkers on the course - now there are less than 20. There’s only one large body of water on the course, which comes into play on the right side of the fairway on 16 and 17. The green side bunkers are much, much deeper than they used to be. It also seems like every green is elevated with sharp slopes on all sides where going short or long is really punished. The greens are playing quite slow right now. A year or so ago I was a 25 handicap. Right now I’m at 16. Besides plenty of time at the range, the biggest thing that has helped are instructional videos on YouTube. In particular, I would recommend Rick Shiels channel. He’s got lots of great content if you haven’t checked it out before.
  20. She doesn’t have to clap but going through a nervous breakdown isn’t a good look.
  21. So in addition to signing fictitious police reports, framing people for drug offenses, and murder he also spent 34 years stealing controlled buy cash from taxpayers. Sounds like a great guy.
  22. It was a fire born out of compassion. An understanding, progressive fire.
  23. I root for him as an ex longhorn but this was shit offensive play calling all game. 1. Raheem Mostert, fresh off 224 yards and 4 TD in the NFC CG doesn’t start the game and instead a guy who separated his should the previous game plays the entire first quarter. Mostert didn’t get his first carry until the 2nd quarter. 2. Didn’t call a timeout to get the ball back with 1:30 (and 2 TO remaining) to end the first half. Instead let the clock run to less than a minute before the punt and ran the ball twice. Essentially conceded a scoring opportunity in favor of going into the half tied. 3. Once he started running the ball, they score 17 unanswered points to take a 10 point lead. 4. Their 4th quarter possessions once again abandoned the run and instead relied Jimmy G to sling it to their second rate WR. Predictably didn’t work. He’s going to get a lot of shit for this and deservedly so.
  24. Just curious - what part of being in the EU prevented them from being “utterly irrelevant”? You mentioned Belgium being a shitty third rate country who not only remains part of the EU but is actually the location of EU headquarters.
  25. Jordan seems to have 0% confidence in himself right now. I honestly think a coach / caddy change might be good for him. If nothing else, breaking the established routine may get his mind off whatever is ruining his game.
