  1. Why not VP Shapiro to back Harris? Why should Harris play 2nd fiddle to a relatively unknown governor?
  2. I saw that. It’s in the section about a “Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education (HMRE) Program.” There’s a lot of creepy talk about protecting and prioritizing “faith-based” programs. They don’t provide any source for their stated statistics and my inclination is to doubt whatever numbers they’re listing and suspect that they’re most likely rooted in bias.
  3. Nope. Look at video from when Reagan was shot. They whisked him into the car in about 2 seconds. Trump took forever to leave the stage by comparison. And they left him uncovered to strike a pose for the cameras at the top of the stairs. If there had been a second shooter, he was left wide open for the kill shot.
  4. At the 2008 Democratic National Convention: I can’t say for sure if I saw that speech or not but I’ve definitely been aware of Wes Moore since 2010 when he was interviewed on The Colbert Report following the publication of his book The Other Wes Moore. He made quite an impression.
  5. Republicans’ War on Divorce Is Just Christian Nationalism in Disguise https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2024-07-17/republicans-are-targeting-no-fault-divorce No-fault divorce is an option available in all 50 states. But it might not be for long if Donald Trump wins a second term, further emboldening a surging Christian nationalist movement that has divorce reform in its sights. Already, several GOP-led states, including Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, are moving to end or restrict the ability of a spouse to exit a marriage without establishing fault. That’s troubling enough. But what’s even more troubling is that this effort is part of a larger strategy by extreme conservatives to return the US to traditional patriarchy, where their religious views become laws that govern us all.
  6. Republicans have been advocating for that outside of Project 2025. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/09/no-fault-divorce-laws-republicans-repeal/675371/ You can find it in Issue #189 addressed by the 2024 platform of the Texas GOP (p. 31): “We urge the Legislature to rescind unilateral no-fault divorce laws, to support covenant marriage, and to pass legislation extending the period of time in which a divorce may occur to six months after the date of filing for divorce.” https://texasgop.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/2024-RPT-Platform.pdf
  7. At this point it’s part of their brand.
  8. I know my enemy. I’ll watch certain events. Like the debate. I’m not watching the shitshow theater of the RNC. Nothing to be learned there. It’s just CPAC on steroids.
  9. How the AR-15 became 'America's national gun' and loved by the NRA (BBC)
  10. Yeah, I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. But you’re right.
  11. You wouldn’t give the Republicans the platform of the convention to campaign against your new candidate. You’d let them play their hand first then make your move. They’d scream bloody murder but it would be too late.
  12. You can’t possibly be this dumb.
  13. And Trump has so completely taken control of the party, and the base, that they don’t need to engage in the pretense of having an “evangelical” on the ticket anymore. There’s a new cult in town.
  14. He’s the most MAGA of the contestants and will be the most shamelessly loyal. And he’s white. Prior criticism of Trump doesn’t matter. He’s bowed down and kissed the ring.
  15. Not really. Distance doesn’t matter. What matters is determining whether a person is authorized to be where they are and if they might pose a threat. You don’t have to wait until they start shooting. The distance just adds an extra layer of difficulty in determining that it’s not a cop up there on that roof so you don’t mistakenly shoot someone legitimately working security. To fire first on a potential threat probably requires some authorization from a commanding officer. That would make sense. It would also make sense that if someone starts shooting, you don’t have to wait for any authorization to take them out. If there had been time to identify the shooter as someone who wasn’t authorized to be up there and they saw him pointing a gun at Trump, I’m sure they would’ve taken him out before he could fire a shot. It sounds like he started shooting before that could happen.
  16. Yes. Here are two: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/man-shot-by-secret-service-outside-white-house-assumed-shooting-stance-charging-documents-say/2020/08/13/fe684be2-dcb0-11ea-809e-b8be57ba616e_story.html https://www.nbcnews.com/news/ncna577701
  17. As if he gives a fuck about that. He’s only interested in politics and power. “How can I blame this on the Democrats?” That’s it.
  18. He didn’t kill Pharaoh, either. He killed everyone’s firstborn instead. Dude’s been a major asshole forever.
