  3. Seeing the position flop from defense/offense conversation above, I’m reminded of Caleb Bluiett, the poor kid probably had no idea what position he was playing on any given day. He went from DE to TE multiple times, sometimes in the same season.

I’m no Velton Gardner expert, but a few minutes of research seems to show he was a very productive but quite undersized QB at Skyline, was a fairly well regarded recruit under the “Athlete” category, picked Kansas where he actually worked his way to starting RB despite not great size. Leipold warmed up to Devin Neal (understandable) and Gardner saw the writing on the wall, left three games into the ‘21 season to preserve his redshirt, transferred to SMU where he wasn’t a star, but a contributor. Not a bruiser, so not a one-for-one Baxter swap size wise, but a guy with actual game experience in a power conference (more than anyone on our roster) and may be able to take a few carries and return some kicks. Good pick up at this point.
